John Terry to skipper England

England coach Fabio Capello has announced that John Terry will be the national side's captiain in the run-up to the 2010 World Cup.

Capello had previously chosen Rio Ferdinand to captain the side, but said that Terry's big personality was the key in his decision:

"The big personality of John was the reason I chose him but Rio is very important to the team"

Obviously quite chuffed, especially given his poor run of form at the end of last season, ahem, penalties, he said:

"I think everybody realises it means the world to me to retain the armband. To get the armband back is a huge achievement for me."

"I heard about an hour before the news conference, just after training. The manager called the whole squad together and told us as a whole.

Think Terry's the right man for the job?

    • Hmmmmmm, I'm not so sure. He certainly has that never say die attitude that is required but I suspect he will not always get in the team. England has a wealth of central defenders and I reckon some better than Terry.
