Patriot's Cheating again?

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. - The NFL has suspended New England Patriots running back Kevin Faulk for the team's opening game against the Kansas City Chiefs for violating the league's substance abuse policy.

Faulk was also fined two game checks.

Faulk's suspension began Saturday. He will be eligible to return to the team Sept. 8, the day after New England's opener against Kansas City.

In July, a judge in Lafayette, La., sentenced the 32-year-old Faulk to a year of probation after he pleaded no contest to misdemeanor marijuana charges. Faulk had been issued a misdemeanor summons for possession of marijuana at a Li'l Wayne concert at the Cajundome in February.

Last season, Faulk had 47 catches for 383 yards and one touchdown. He also had 62 rushes for 265 yards.

    • I agree, the title is extremely misleading and nobody cares about the actual story. Randy Moss admitted to smoking weed too a couple years ago, so maybe they just have post practice sessions in Foxboro.

    • Marijuana is a vasodilator so if he smoked it while he was playing he would have better blood flow and endurance. The NFL considers it "performance enhancing" for this purpose. In my own experience, the concentration and reaction speed gained from getting stoned always helped me out on the field. Just smoking it after practice or off days would not contribute to performance, though, so he would have to be high while he is on the field.

    • I agree, first of all, this really has nothing to do with cheating, and second of all, I have to agree with Robin Williams in terms of Marijuana being a performance-enhancing drug:

"Marijuana enhances many things, colors, flavors, sensations, but you are certainly not fucking empowered. When you're stoned, you're lucky if you can find your own goddamn feet. The only way it's a performance-enhancing drug is if there's a big fucking Hershey bar at the end of the run. Then you'll be like a Swiss ski jumper going, 'I'm there!'"

    • Answer: Not in this case. (It's freaking pot...)

But you don't have to be a genius to figure out that many of these 200-lb, ripped behemoths are on some type of performance enhancing drug (or seven). Don't ask me how they "get away with it." You know what they say, though: If they're all cheating, is it still cheating?

Check out "Bigger Stronger Faster", a great doc from Chris Bell.
