24 year old England international Stewart Downing has expressed his desire to continue his career away from the Riverside by handing in a formal transfer request.
Downing agreed a 5 year deal in February 2008 but has been increasingly unsettled, sparked by Spurs bidding £6m last week.
Manager Gareth Southgate believes he can hold on to the player but he is likely to attract a number of suitors with Spurs and Manchester City awaiting developments.
