Manchester United accepts $131M offer for Cristiano Ronaldo

Real Madrid took a huge second step towards building the new Galacticos by tabling an unconditional bid of $131 million for Manchester United's Portuguese forward Cristiano Ronaldo. Manchester United have accepted the offer, paving the way for Ronaldo to become the most expensive player in footballing history.

Ronaldo, the current World and European player of the year, was signed by United in 2003 for approximately $18 million from Sporting Club de Portugal. He made 292 appearances for United in his six seasons at the club, scoring 118 goals including a record 42 in the 2007-08 season.

Ronaldo achieved great success at United winning the English Premier League on three occassions and the Champions League and FA Cup once each.

Earlier this week Real Madrid signed Brazilian playmaker Kaka for $91 million.
