Last Call. Posted by NBargiel | MAY 5, 2011
So here we are.
Months of hard work, countless storyboards, and tens of thousands of ideas were distilled into twelve episodes of Bar Karma.
Twelve episodes that started with you. The community.
They said a community-developed television show couldn't be done. But Will Wright thought it could. So did Current TV and David Cohn. So did Albie Hecht and Worldwide Biggies, who along with Laura Knight, captained the ship that drove the cast and crew.
The foundation to all of that, though, was you. The community. Day after day, idea after idea, episode after episode.
I joined the Bar Karma team late in the game - nearly the last person who stumbled in through the bar's doors, a few weeks before the show premiered. Jim and I didn't have James to show us our cards or MW News to alert us of our possible fates. Or pour us a drink.
Wait, James, come back!
But that was okay. Because the community quickly showed me the ropes. Your creativity and dedication to this project has been nothing short of amazing, and it has been a pleasure and an honor to work with you.
I hope that no matter what happens with Bar Karma's fate, that you take the lessons you've learned along the way into your own future creative endeavors.
The site - including the forums and blog comments - is going into read-only mode. The Bar Karma community has created a group on the main Current site, to stay in contact with each other. That group can be found here.
There will be upcoming opportunities to continue creating with StoryMaker, so make sure to watch this space or check the Bar Karma Facebook page for updates soon.
Thank you for everything.
Best,
Nina Bargiel

Karma Catch-Up: "A Man Walks Out of a Bar." Posted by NBargiel | APRIL 25, 2011
In our season finale, Doug returns to the luxury of his former life, but Dayna tries to bring him back by revealing the truth about her ... and why he was brought to Bar Karma in the first place.
This episode was based on a comment by Piper_Lynch that the producers came across while reading the forums, as well as your votes in a series of polls asking what you wanted in the season finale. There were a lot of loose ends to tie up, and a lot of questions to answer. The writers attempted to squeeze every last bit that you voted on in the season finale polls. Check the results and clips from the show, after the jump!

Matthew Humphreys (Doug) interviewed by Scifi TV and Talk. Posted by NBargiel | APRIL 27, 2011
Bar Karma's very own Matthew Humphreys (Doug) was interviewed by the blog Sci Fi and TV Talk this week!
What does the actor think of the show’s online fan community’s contributions to the show’s storyline and development of its characters? “I think it’s great,” he enthuses. “That’s the short simple answer. What’s amazing about it is that it’s a constant dialogue. It’s constantly growing and evolving. This show is giving certain people a chance to contribute their ideas, which then go to the writers who add their ideas, and then all of that goes to a director and the producers, all of whom bring their ideas to the table. It’s absolute contribution at its heart. It’s like creating a piece of theatre, only we got to do it for a long period of time."
Check out the rest of the interview here.

Karma Catch-Up: "Enter the Community." Posted by NBargiel | APRIL 21, 2011
This morning's dilemma: how to write a Karma Catch-Up on a catch-up episode? Looking back on the open thread, it appears that Episode 111, "Enter the Community," was a dividing line for many, and inspired comments from voices from community members new and old.
The Producers' intent with this sort of clip show was to "catch-up" new viewers before we headed into the Season Finale with a clip show. But how do you make a clip show that also introduces the community-developed aspect of the show to the at-home audience? Enter, well, the community.
Although it turns out we can't escape Bar Karma without a few community-generated ideas in there...

Karmic Flashback! Posted by NBargiel | APRIL 21, 2011
Remember when there was a certain director that had a name that began with "Jonathan" and ended with "Frakes" who came to direct his wife, Genie Francis, in episode 109 of Bar Karma?
Even famous actor-directors need a few takes....enjoy:
