Jonathan Frakes answers your questions! Posted by NBargiel | Production Blog | APRIL 6, 2011
Last week, we asked you for your questions for Jonathan Frakes, director of this Friday's episode of Bar Karma "Three Times a Lady," starring his wife, Genie Francis.
You asked on Facebook, on Twitter, and right here on the blog - and now you can click through for Jonathan's answers. And don't forget to tune in to "Three Times a Lady," tomorrow at 10/9c on Current TV!
Sean Tourangeau Carmen Asmussen (via Facebook): What is your favorite memory from your years involved with Star Trek? What was the saddest memory as well? I am the Designer of the U.S.S. Titan and was an honored to have my design chosen as the winning design.
Jonathan Frakes: Every morning, no matter what the hour, I woke up looking forward to going where no one had gone before. The company, on both sides of the camera was filled with clever, talented and funny men and women. Naturally, we mourned Gene Roddenberry's death after season 3...by the way one of the great funerals of all time. When I was in London, I got a call about the tragic death of Jerry Fleck our 1st Assistant director on the show and both of my Star Trek movies. We also were very sad when Denise Crosby (Lt. Tasha Yar) left the show...both the characters and the actors...congrats on the TITAN Design....RIKER's SHIP!!!!!
AthenaGrow (via Twitter): What was your favorite part about directing Bar Karma?
Jonathan Frakes: The two best parts of directing Bar Karma were; one directing my beautiful and talented wife Genie Francis with whom I made Jamo and Eliza and second working with the almost as beautiful and talented Albie Hecht – with whom I had made “Clockstoppers.”
aaron1972 (via the Bar Karma blog): What sorts of stories and authors inspired you in your youth? Tell us about the tales that fired up your imagination.
Jonathan Frakes: Ironically, my influences were writers like Philip Roth, Paul Auster, Richard Russo and not sci-fi writers as you may have guessed. As a matter of fact, I had to rent VCR's of the original Star Trek to prepare for my auditions for Next Generation.
mrshrbrmstr (via the Bar Karma blog): What projects are you considering at the moment? We fans would love to know.
Jonathan Frakes: After Bar Karma on April 8 on Current TV, I have a wonderful family-friendly romantic comedy on April 16 on FOX TV at 8 PM called “Truth Be Told.” I am currently making an episode of The Glades for A&E featuring NASCAR drivers Tony Stewart, Carl Edwards, Joey Lagano and Brian Vickers. Next up is Burn Notice. Then I narrate a Civil War series for the History Channel and then I am off to Portland to shoot three episodes of Leverage for TNT. The Guest Star of my Bar Karma episode, “Three Times a Lady,” Genie Francis – my fabulous wife – has just been signed to a contract on CBS' Young and the Restless!
...
We'd like to thank Jonathan Frakes for taking the time out of his insanely busy schedule to answer fan questions. And don't forget that the Frakes train keeps on rolling tomorrow night - April 8 - with his Bar Karma directorial debut "Three Times a Lady" at 10/9c on Current TV!
