Scene 1 by rwrwrw A well dressed man in his early 60s enters the bar and asks James where he is. He was planning to meet his wife of 40 years for a pre-theater cocktail, but she was no where to be found. The man's phone starts ringing and ringing, call upon call. He ignored the first few calls, then answered the call from his brother-in-law, his broker. The breaking news: his company has been involved in a huge scandal and their stock is plummeting. -
Scene 2 by Ishwar The well dressed man sits at a bar stool and sighs, he had had no idea where his wife was and he couldn’t figure out why his company’s stock was plummeting. He looks at James and raises his finger, signaling that he wants a drink. James pours him some whiskey. “You live around here?” James asked. “Virginia,” he cleared his throat. “I’ve lived in Virginia all my life. Went to college in Virginia, met my wife in Virginia, and started my company in Virginia.” Robert took back the drink in one swig. Robert reached into his back pocket for his wallet, pulled out a business card to show James and Dayna, who had walked over to where Robert was sitting. ALLENTELLIGENCE. The plain card read his business name, with his name, Robert Allen, under it. -
Scene 3 by Ishwar Dayna and James quickly shared a look. “So what line of work are you in, Robert?” Dayna asked Robert as he watched James pour the next glass of whiskey. “Data. My company encrypts and secures all sorts of data for various companies and for government. My wife and I met in the computer science department at Virginia University ” Robert sipped his drink. “So you haven’t seen her, Gloria, walk in here at any point? I don’t know why I ever agreed to have her fly out to New York to meet me. She always gets lost.” Robert picked up a newspaper that was on the stool next to him. He read the headline: UNITED STATES INTELLIGENCE CABLES THAT WERE LEAKED SAID TO BE ENCRYPTED BY ALLENTELLIGENCE. He couldn’t believe it. He read the headline one more time. He shot a look at Dayna and James, who were now joined by Doug behind the bar. “Don’t worry, we won’t tell anyone,” Doug reassured him. -
Scene 4 by Ishwar The newspaper slipped from Roberts hands and fell to the floor. “Where’s the bathroom?” Robert found his way to the small bathroom in the back of the bar, found his way into the stall and began vomiting. We’re brought to the mirror where Robert looks at himself in question, trying to figure out where he went wrong. “How could anyone have cracked the code?” The United States Department of Defense had contracted Robert’s company to encrypt important Military Intelligence information to send between military departments. We’re brought through a series of images where Robert has different meetings. One with the secretary of defense, one with the joint chiefs at the white house, one with his wife in their office, and a final one with an intelligence team working in the pentagon. -
Scene 5 by Ishwar In the meeting with the secretary of defense in a closed room, we see Robert signing the papers to set up the contract for Allentelligence. The secretary of defense makes it very clear that the data must be bulletproof and mentions that Allentelligence has a perfect track record. In the meeting with the joint chiefs, we see Robert outlining how he plans on encrypting and storing the data. We see a young man sitting at the corner of the table taking diligent notes on every word Robert says. Doesn’t look right. We are brought to the home office where Robert and his wife sit with their laptops discussing who is going to encrypt which files, and going over the time line with each other. Finally, we’re back at the pentagon where Robert is in a meeting and we see the same suspicious young man sitting at the corner of the table, watching Robert closely while he is going through text messages on his phone under the desk. -
Scene 6 by Ishwar Robert is found back at the bar, sitting with Doug, James, and Dayna. He starts to open up and shares the meetings he had with the different intelligence groups, hoping for some sort of answer from them. James poured a shot of whiskey for all of them. They looked at each other and quickly put the shot back. We flash forward to a court room where Robert sits at a desk watching his wife at the stand. She answers questions from a government attorney. The attorney asks Gloria questions about the encryption code she wrote, and who paid her to place an unnoticeable loophole in the code. We see the young suspicious man sitting in the courtroom. Robert turns around to scan the crowd and quickly notices this young man, Stephen. Stephen and Gloria make eye contact before she answers “It was a mistake. No one paid me, it was bad encryption on my part.” -
Scene 7 by Ishwar We flash back to the initial meeting with the joint chiefs where Stephen is taking notes on every word out of Robert’s mouth. We see that, at the end of Robert’s presentation, Robert says his wife will be working on the project with him and says that he can trust any information with her as they’ve been best friends since college. Rule number one in the defense industry: don’t share information on who is working on what. From here, we flash to a meeting that Gloria and Stephen have in a park in the middle of town. Gloria looks down at her phone where she has a text message from Stephen: “Park. Noon. Be there or the secret is out.” We flash back to Gloria in college, see her at a party where she is with another male student, not Robert. Gloria never told Robert about that night, but Stephen somehow knew about it. Gloria had to keep the secret from Robert. Robert never told her that he knew about the night – the other man was Rick. Robert’s roommate in college. After that night, Rick felt guilty and told Robert. With his love for Gloria, Robert accepted that it was a mistake and never shared it. -
Scene 8 by Ishwar Back at the bar, Robert finally realizes that Stephen was blackmailing Gloria – He threatened to share Gloria’s infidelity if she didn’t put the loophole into the code. Gloria couldn’t put her marriage at risk. James pours another shot for the gang, they all take it back. We’re back in college. Robert and Rick sat in their dorm room, and Rick just shared the bad news with Robert. Robert, distraught, asks Gloria to meet him. Gloria comes to his dorm room with Chinese take out and medicine for him. She knew Robert was sick and always took care of him when he was. Robert knew that Gloria was the one he wanted to marry. “What was it that you wanted to talk about?” “Nothing,” Robert replied. I just wanted some Chinese food.” -
Scene 9 by Ishwar Back at Bar Karma, Robert goes to the bathroom again. He needs to vomit again – not because of the bad news he just received, but from all the whiskey he had been drinking. He washes his face with the cold water from the tap. Looks up into the mirror and finds himself back at the dorm room. Gloria knocks on the door to enter, he opens the door for her and tells her they need to have a serious talk. He shares with her that Rick told him what had happened, but that he has forgiven her and wants their relationship to continue. Gloria vows to never make the same mistake again as she cries. -
Scene 10 by Ishwar We’re back at the park where Gloria is meeting Stephen. Stephen tells her that unless she creates the code as he says, that he will provide proof of that night to Robert. Gloria looks him in the eye and tells him that she knows her marriage is stronger than Stephen thinks, and walks away from Stephen, refusing to alter the encryption code. Back at the bar, Robert stumbles out, finally sobered up, in front of a theater and sees Gloria waiting in line. Prettier than ever.
