  • Scene 1 It starts with a student.
  • Scene 2 Actually, it starts with several students. Four children are grouped together in a quartet, playing a cheerful piece of classical music. As the scene widens, we see their teacher, moving behind them. He counts time with one hand, using the other to gently correct the posture of one student as he walks by. The song ends, and he begins to applaud their improvement, but his words are cut off by the bell that signals the end of the class period.
  • Scene 3 Another teacher with an armload of papers and folders pushes past the exiting students into the classroom, interrupting Andre clearing the blackboard to ask him "The meeting to discuss the move to the new system is at 5, do you have your math curriculum to share?" Andre answers "I'm putting the finishing touches on, but I'm more eager to hear the feed back on the proposal for the music program I submitted". "Oh" the music teacher pauses, not sure how to break the news.
  • Scene 4 Andre learns that this time the music department does not have to endure severe budget cuts, the new program seeks to completely eliminate music from the budget altogether. Andre is shocked and heart-broken. He cannot count how many times over his career he has fought to save music and other necessary programs so that children can get a full well-rounded education. Now it is not a matter of doing more with less, the school board's new program means wholesale cuts to vital programs including music. Andre does not believe he can go to the school meeting. He cannot go to anymore school board meetings. Andre has no more fight left in him. Andre puts papers in his satchel to grade tonight, grabs his coat, and turns to go home for the night. When he opens the door from the music room to go into the hallway, he steps into Bar Karma.
  • Scene 5 On the jukebox, Bach's Brandenburg Concerto #6 is player... which has no violins
  • Scene 6 The crew watch as Andre walks in and back out, only to come in again. Andre stutters his confused apologies, commenting on how Bach's Brandenburg Concerto is one of his favorites... Dayna welcomes him to the bar agreeing with his choice of music. Doug comments on his timing... and suggests perhaps he could resolve a dispute in regards to the composer..... Andre wanders up to the bar and takes a seat... Andre: Only too glad to be of help.
  • Scene 7 Doug: Wasn't Bach crazy for making the viola the main instrument just to get out of his job? Who walks away from a cushy job composing for the royals? Andre: I don't think so. The viola is a beautiful, but underappreciated instrument. And money isn't everything. Bach's musical passions were else where at the time. Danya smiles at his comment.
  • Scene 8 After being served a drink, Andre fishes a vial out of his pocket. He takes a pill and washes it down with the scotch. He puts his head on the table, completely forlorn. He does not care at all about where he is now. On the mirror in back comes on a video of a teenager who has been beaten pretty severly. Andre recognizes the child, but is confused, because he is much older.
