Integrate the all-new 2011 Mazda2 Posted by Jim_Goldblum | NOVEMBER 15, 2010
James pulls up in the 2011 Mazda to pick up Doug to do some future-related business. There are a lot of future cars around. Doug is taken by surprise that this is the car James chose.
Scene would play out somewhere along the lines of this:
Doug: "Is that the new Mazda2?"
James: "We're in the year 2045, this baby's a classic at this point."
Doug: "Oh, right. Well why aren't we driving one of these fancy new future cars then?"
James: "Well are these new cars are gutless and electric; besides this gets better gas mileage."
Doug:"huh? how does it get better mileage than an electric future-car?"
James: "You would be surprised at how badly the government messed up regulating electric cars. Besides, it's all about the driving experience when the rubber hits the road. This beauty has more Zoom if you know what I mean."
*Doug gets in and they drive away to take care of their future business in the future*

I think you are on the right track and I really like where you are heading! Make sure to include this moment with the Mazda2 as you work through the scenes in the storymaker.

Connecting the regulation of electric cars to the manifesto is a little tricky. You would have to answer the question why the government would make innefficient electric cars (aside from just making a joke).
Obviously the government would have to profit somehow.
The idea I have right now is that the government in the future would run like a giant for-profit Monopoly, controlling major industries like car manufacturing, and also the infrastructure and utilities. So the government would profit from selling inefficient cars since people have to keep paying them to charge the batteries. How the author would tie into this is that he would have devised a method for the government to legally take direct control of the country's corporations, industries, and utilities in order to get out of debt. The public would have been in favor of this plan initially (lower taxes, higher wages), but ultimately the governmental monopoly would be corrupt in the future and be gouge citizens. It's like using so much capitalism, the government basically turns communistic.
I hope that makes sense, let me know if I need to clarify things, or if we need to come up with something better

In thinking about the Author's Manifesto story currently in Final Story phase, does the Author's book have something to do with the government regulation? Can you tie the two elements together, saying something about the government that would cause the author to write his manifesto?

Like the dialogue! Unfortunately, we wouldn't be able to also include a lot of futuristic cars to help sell the idea but we could use the conversation. How does this connect to the episode and a particular patron? keep going!

Nice! I love the idea (and I bet our sponsor would too) of the Mazda2 as a future classic -- and as a car that has "guts."
