The Future of Bar Karma

Q: What's going on with Bar Karma?
A:
No decisions have been made about a second season of Bar Karma. It's been an incredible experience and a successful experiment, where for the first time ever, a series was completely developed by the viewing community. We'd like to thank the community members for their passion and dedication throughout the entire process. As of May 6, 2011, the Bar Karma site will go into read-only mode until such a decision has been made.

Getting Started

Q: What is Bar Karma?
A:
Bar Karma is a community-developed TV show that sprung from the brain of legendary video game designer Will Wright, creator of The Sims. It premieres Friday, February 11 at 10/9C on Current TV.

Q: What's Bar Karma about?
A:
Bar Karma is a mystical watering hole displaced from time and space, which pops into its patrons' lives when they need more than a stiff drink. Every happy hour, the Bar Karma staff guides one lost soul through a crossroads in his or her life, using eerie glimpses into the past, present, and many possible futures. Some think this is destiny, while others believe free will brought them to the bar. But none of them will pass through the Bar Karma doors without being changed forever.

Q: How is this show different?
A:
Bar Karma is unique in that we not only welcome your suggestions, we can't live without them. Bar Karma is the first community-developed television series. You decide the story, the characters, the plotlines -- along with other viewers/participants.

Q: How do I get my ideas on the show?
A:
Start by registering on Current.com. Once you create your Current.com profile and log in, you can participate. The most popular ideas will be voted on by the community and will be considered by the producers for potential inclusion in future episodes of Bar Karma.

You Decide...

Q: What are the ways in which I can participate?
A:
There are lots of ways to participate. You can start out by exploring the Create Episodes page. There you'll find a list of opportunities land ranked by how much time is left to give your input. Not ready to give your input? You can look at what others have done -- and rate them, provide feedback in comments, and/or vote on your favorites.

Just as you can comment on theirs, other members of the Bar Karma community can comment, recommend, and vote on your ideas as well.

Q: What types of things will I be able to give input on?
A:
There are a lot of decisions that go into making a TV series, and a lot of questions that need to be answered. You might submit a story, or develop a promotional campaign, a song choice, or a costume idea. Check the Create Episodes page daily for new opportunities under the You Decide... banner to get involved.

Q: Can I use a pitch more than once if it isn't chosen?
A:
You can resubmit your pitch if it hasn't been chosen, but remember, other users will vote on your pitches. The community may be less likely to vote for a pitch they've seen before.

Q: What is StoryMaker?
A:
The StoryMaker is a revolutionary application from the mind of Will Wright. The StoryMaker allows you to create, develop and submit plot/character ideas for an ongoing production, via a user-friendly interface that makes it easy to create your own ideas and respond to others' ideas as well. You can check out the StoryMaker here, or download our mobile app.

Making The Show

Q: How do ideas get chosen for each episode?
A:
Producers will pick their favorite ideas from the Bar Karma community and run with them -- turning them into full-fledged episodes of television. But those ideas will come to their attention through your votes.

Q: If my ideas are chosen, what's my reward?
A:
If the producers choose to include one of your ideas in the show, your name will appear in the Bar Karma credits along with the rest of the production team. Your credits will also appear on your profile.

Community members with the most credits will be listed in the Leaderboards.

Community

Q: How do I connect with other creators in the Bar Karma community?
A:
Head over to the Forums to discuss ideas with other creators.

Q: Can I post to my Facebook page? Or tweet my ideas to Current TV?
A:
Bar Karma is your show, so spread the Karma wherever you can! However, only ideas on here on the Bar Karma/Current TV site can be considered for use in the show. But you can share your ideas with your social network and ask your friends to recommend your pitches. You can also link your Current TV profile with other social network sites and mobile applications.

Q: Where else can I find Bar Karma?
