I worked for GE during the “halcyon” days of Jack Welch. There were many things to recommend GE in those days, but Jack Welch was not one of them. Today, many people remember Jack Welch as a virtual business messiah. The guy turned massive profits and was and is the darling of Wall Street, but it seems a lot of people have forgotten a lot of things about Jack…one of them being he could also be the most flamboyantly dumb man ever. He returns to that glory with his birther-like charges of Obama fiddling jobs numbers a month from the election.I worked for GE during the “halcyon” days of Jack Welch. There were many... more

“Those who underestimate Barack Obama, underestimate him at their own peril. He’s as good a politician as I’ve ever seen.....And I think he’s genuine.....” ~ Gov. Chris Christie
My Democratic friends have gone into a full-blown depression, while my Republicans acquaintances rejoice like they’ve finally discovered the fountain of youth or something equally elusive. The extreme responses were to be expected because the hype leading up to the debate was so over-the-top anything less than a physical fight would have been anticlimactic.
Still, I couldn’t help but wonder what kind of values we have when we’re willing to declare such blatant lies to be a winning tactic. No, Mitt wasn’t pivoting to the center or in any other direction, he was flat-out lying...like he always does. And no, I’m not about to make excuses for President Obama, but how soon we forget.
It wasn’t that long ago Democrats criticized the President for attacking Romney’s Bain Capital model. The President persisted and what happened? Joe Scarborough said he couldn’t believe the President was so lost without his teleprompter. Clearly, Joe has forgotten the summit where Republicans were prepared to try to embarrass and upstage the President and he cleaned their clocks. He didn’t have a teleprompter then.
Pat “white supremacist” Buchanan said, “I think it was the best performance of any debate I’ve seen him [Romney] do. If I had to mark this as a 15-round fight, I think that Governor Romney won 13 of the 15 rounds.” We’ll call this a three-round competition. Any good fighter will tell you the object is to let the challenger swing and punch until he tires himself out. Muhammed Ali called it the ropa dope.

Oh, this is bad. During tonight's presidential debate, KitchenAid posted a nasty and poorly spelled comment on its Twitter feed about President Obama's grandmother, who died shortly before he took office. The full tweet from @KitchenAidUSA, while quickly deleted, was rapidly retweeted by many (such as Heather Spohr, shown below) who saw it appear during the debate. It read: "Obamas gma even knew it was going 2 b bad! 'She died 3 days b4 he became president,' " along with the #nbcpolitics hashtag. Shortly after deleting the post, the brand tried to limit the collateral damage with a commendable amount of rapid transparency: "Deepest apologies for an irresponsible tweet that is in no way a representation of the brand's opinion. #nbcpolitics." Obviously, it's going to be a bad Thursday for somebody who forgot to log out of a client account, and probably a bad Thursday for quite a few somebodies that gave said employee the keys.
UPDATE: Cynthia Soledad, senior director at KitchenAid, tells AdFreak in a statement: "During the debate last night, a member of our Twitter team mistakenly posted an offensive tweet from the KitchenAid handle instead of a personal handle. This tasteless joke in no way represents our values at KitchenAid. This person will no longer be tweeting for us and appropriate actions are being taken. That said, I lead the KitchenAid brand, and I take responsibility for the whole team. I am deeply sorry to President Obama, his family, and our consumers for this careless error."Oh, this is bad. People will of course say the same thing about MSNBC and their primarily left leaning views but they are not in the business of disseminating blatant lies and when they are in the wrong they do make some effort to correct their mistakes. Faux just doubles down by coming up with even more ridiculous claims. "Wake the F**k Up!" is a new, very unconventional political ad for President Barack Obama created by Academy Award nominee Samuel L. Jackson. Have you been thinking about just sitting out this election, or maybe considering voting for Romney just for the hell of it? You may want to think twice about that!
In this video, Jackson magically shows up in the homes of seniors, young people and other disaffected voters and exhorts them through his booming voice and imposing presence with profanity-laced nursery rhymes about the dangers of voting Republican this November.
This piece includes photographs and two videos.

Truth is the first casualty of politics. Politicians warp it, distort it, and spin it like Whirling Dervishes. When all else fails, they simply lie their way around it, all the while claiming a fantasy moral high ground where it is perpetually Orwell’s 1984 – truth is fiction and fiction is truth.
A sentient person should expect a certain amount of this. After all, it is a candidate’s job to present themselves in the best possible light. But, there is a huge difference between good lighting and whispering lies from the shadows.
Sometimes facts are both truthful and verifiable. You can argue 1+1=9422, but that doesn’t make it true or a fact. When the fact is so immutable as to render it above challenge, some simply lie. “But it does equal 9422! Most leading mathematicians say so.” No they didn’t.Truth is the first casualty of politics. Sometimes miraculous films come into being, made by people you've never heard of, starring unknown faces, blindsiding you with creative genius. "Beasts of the Southern Wild" is one those rare films, the award-winning first feature film directed by Benh Zeitlin, created in collaboration with Court 13, the filmmakers’ collective that moved to New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina. The film won the Caméra d’Or award at the 2012 Cannes Film Festival, the Grand Jury Prize: Dramatic at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival, where it premiered, the Grand Jury Prize at the 2012 Deauville American Film Festival, the 2012 Los Angeles Film Festival’s Audience Award for Best Narrative Feature and the 2012 Seattle International Film Festival’s Golden Space Needle Award for Best Director.
Part dystopia and part revolutionary utopia, “Beasts of the Southern Wild” is a visionary film that celebrates resistance, featuring poor people who come together in interracial, inter-generational harmony. After a flood washes away most of “The Bathtub,” a poor and precarious patch of land south of New Orleans, Hushpuppy (Quvenzhané Wallis, five years-old at the time of filming) and her father account for their remaining animals and neighbors, and attempt to survive, rebuild, and repair their world. They band together to create a post-Katrina communal life and they fight the system in a variety of ways to avoid getting thrown into the sterile, controlled environment of a state-funded shelter.
Coming off his earlier award-winning short film, “Glory at Sea,” Zeitlin wanted to continue working on an expanded feature film set in the Louisiana bayou and to tell a story about a community making a final stand. The same theme and mythic, poetic feeling of “Glory at Sea,” clearly carries through in Zeitlin’s “Beasts of the Southern Wild.” Like “Beasts,” “Glory at Sea,” concerned a southern Delta community endangered by a flood and focused on a young girl, who also served as the film’s narrator. “Glory at Sea” told of the aftermath of the Katrina flood, and a community’s Orpheus-like efforts to keep alive its old traditions and loved ones.
Fusing recent history and environmental concerns with a mythical quality, “Beasts of the Southern Wild” defies easy classification or description, instead forging a new path that firmly establishes director Benh Zeitlin as a bright new cinematic talent. Reviewers are speculating that both Zeitlin and young Quvenzhané Wallis could be nominated for Academy Awards.
This piece includes a number of color photographs and five videos, including the official trailer for "Beasts of the Southern Wild" and the acclaimed short film, “Glory at Sea.”

US President Barack Obama said during a televised interview that aired this weekend that he will block out “any noise” from Israel Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu urging America to intervene in an Iranian nuclear program.
Speaking to 60 Minutes, President Obama acknowledged that the United States does indeed maintain friendly relations with Israel, but suggested that he would not necessarily intervene in that country’s issues if it wasn’t the best course of action for the American people. The interview was conducted by Steve Kroft and carried by CBS Sunday evening.
Responding to a question about how much pressure the United States receives from Prime Minister Netanyahu to use military force in Iran to thwart a rumored nuclear warhead procurement plan, President Obama said he understands Israel’s concerns but does not feel pressured to play by their rules.
“I have conversations with Prime Minister Netanyahu all the time. And I understand and share Prime Minister Netanyahu’s insistence that Iran should not obtain a nuclear weapon, because it would threaten us, it would threaten Israel, and it would threaten the world and kick off a nuclear arms race,” President Obama explained.
In response to his answer, Mr. Kraft followed through and asked the president, “You’re saying, you don’t feel any pressure from Prime Minister Netanyahu in the middle of a campaign to try and get you to change your policy and draw a line in the sand? “You don’t feel any pressure?”
“When it comes to our national security decisions — any pressure that I feel is simply to do what’s right for the American people. And I am going to block out—any noise that’s out there,” President Obama said. "Now I feel an obligation, not pressure but obligation, to make sure that we’re in close consultation with the Israelis — on these issues. Because it affects them deeply. They’re one of our closest allies in the region. And we’ve got an Iranian regime that has said horrible things that directly threaten Israel’s existence.”
Despite the long-lasting relationship between the US and Israel, the two allies have failed to see eye-to-eye as of late on the Iranian issue, at least as far as to what degree intervention is warranted. The United States has already imposed serious trade sanctions on Iran and is far from on pleasant terms with them otherwise, but Prime Minister Netanyahu and other Israeli officials have asked for President Obama to take more serious action, perhaps even putting boots on the ground.
"The world tells Israel 'wait, there's still time'. And I say, 'Wait for what? Wait until when?'" Netanyahu said earlier this month. "Those in the international community who refuse to put red lines before Iran don't have a moral right to place a red light before Israel.” Days after that remark was made, Israel asked the White House if a meeting could be arranged between the two nation’s leaders during Mr. Netanyahu’s visit to the United Nations in New York City this week, but the Obama administration said such a sit-down wouldn’t be possible.
Mitt Romney, the former Massachusetts governor that will challenge President Obama in the November elections, told 60 Minute’s that the White House’s response was a "mistake that sends a message throughout the Middle East that somehow we distance ourselves from our friends."US President Barack Obama said during a televised interview that aired this weekend... more

On Monday afternoon, “Mother Jones Magazine” posted a short leaked video online that captured Mitt Romney at an exclusive fundraising event that offered a rare glimpse of his personal views. Speaking at a private fundraising reception earlier this year with millionaire donors in Boca Raton, Florida, Romney described almost half of Americans as “people who pay no income tax” and are “dependent upon government.”
Those voters, he said, would probably support President Obama because they believe they are “victims” who are “entitled to health care, to food, to housing, to you name it.” With its unvarnished language, the short video clip seems to undermine what Romney’s aides have tried to argue is an enduring attribute that would appeal to independent voters: a sense that Mr. Romney is, at base, an empathetic and caring man.
Now, “Mother Jones” has posted the full 49-minute secret video of Romney speaking at that May 17th fundraiser, captured raw and uncut. In addition to his denigrating comments about poor people, Romney’s remarks about a critical area of foreign policy set off another media firestorm, generating headlines around the world. Responding to a question about the “Palestinian problem,” Romney said peace in the Middle East is not possible and a Palestinian state is not feasible, telling his wealthy donors that Palestinians have “no interest whatsoever in establishing peace and that the pathway to peace is almost unthinkable to accomplish.”
Romney’s remarks, degrading nearly half of the electorate, sent the Romney campaign, which was already rocked by infighting, into panic mode. The new video confirms the impression of a callous Mitt Romney who has little idea of how Americans actually live. Further, the additional comments in this full-length secret video solidify previous impressions that Romney can be quite a bully to those who are not a part of his small exclusive group.
This piece includes a photograph, as well as videos of the full 49-minute secret video.

MSNBC's Joe Scarborough created a controversy on Monday by suggesting Muslims and Arabs protesting the infamous, and infamously bad, anti-Islamic video hate America because of their religion and culture. "You know why they hate us?" he said. "They hate us because of their religion, they hate us because of their culture, and they hate us because of peer pressure. And you talk to any intelligence person, they will tell you that's the same thing, and all those people who think we're going to go over there and change them are just naive." Joe is specifically blaming Islamic religion and Arab culture, which isn't necessarily true, but there are some connections - just not the type he's suggesting. Only hours after a US district judge made permanent an injunction that bans the indefinite military detention of Americans without charge, the White House said they’d appeal to continue their efforts to keep a controversial new law on the books.
On Thursday, the Obama administration acknowledged that they plan to challenge a ruling made only a day earlier by US District Court Judge Katherine Forrest that concreted an injunction she issued four months prior on a provision included in the 2012 National Defense Authorization Act , or NDAA. In May, Judge Forrest said the indefinite detention statute in the NDAA failed to “pass constitutional muster” and ordered a temporary block. On Wednesday, she made that injunction permanent, but not without raising objection once again from the Executive Branch.
“First Amendment rights are guaranteed by the Constitution and cannot be legislated away,” Forrest wrote on Wednesday. “This Court rejects the Government’s suggestion that American citizens can be placed in military detention indefinitely, for acts they could not predict might subject them to detention.”
Judge Forrest’s decision this week reaffirms her earlier ruling that prohibits the US government from abiding by the indefinite detention provision in the NDAA, a clause that allows for American citizens to be detained and held on the suspicion of supporting terrorists “or associated forces” until a very vague time frame described as only “until the end of hostilities.” After US President Barack Obama signed the legislation into law on New Year’s Eve, a team of journalists and activists challenged it in court.
