The NRA and the settlements movements divide us as few movements can. Both have come to believe that they should in no way be curbed. Both have come to believe that they cannot be stopped. A lobby is not supposed to run your life. Nor ruin it.
Having grown to the stature of a government apart from government, however, the National Rifle Association has become a curse to its beloved America. And, in its extraordinary clout, in its ability to arouse and withstand reproach, in its fierce divisiveness, in its underground ambivalence about the authority of an elected government, and in its skill at leveraging the systems of democracy to weaken and corrupt and distort a democratic society, the settlement enterprise has become Israel's NRA.
Both have come to believe that they should in no way be curbed. Both have come to believe that they cannot be stopped. And, in that last sense, both may be right.
They divide us as few movements can. They thrive on fear. They wail for how they're demonized, but their zeal feeds on condemnation. Citing the best in us, they serve to protect the worst in us. They are a danger in the guise of a savior.
Both will tell you that theirs is the bedrock patriotism, the essence and the guardian of the national character. They will tell you that their message and their mission are one with the very founding of the country. Whether brandishing the Bible or the Bill of Rights, they will tell you that their mandate comes not from fleeting and fashionable statutes and regulations, but from the unimpeachable source, the nation's founding charter.

As our soldiers fight courageously to establish freedom abroad, in the streets, businesses and schools of the “land of the free”, 110, 000 American murders are committed with guns. Add in suicides and accidental deaths as a result of hand guns and the figure nears 400,000...over 30,000 deaths a year! That’s over 2500 deaths a month...more than 80 gun deaths every single day.
The Second Amendment to the Constitution is clearly far more powerful than the 6th Commandment of the Bible and the God many claim to love and worship. They are hypocrites! But then again, perhaps we are defined by darker passages than we care to admit...from the slaughter of the Native American to Eugenics and lynching, perhaps we’ve evolved no further than the mass murder of our children.

NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre broke his organization's silence on Friday in the wake of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting that left 20 children and six adults dead. LaPierre took no questions and was interrupted twice by protesters holding up signs that read, "NRA killing our kids" and "NRA has blood on its hands."
Here is a word cloud representing the entire text of LaPierre's speech (full text below), with words bigger and smaller based on how many times they appeared in the statement:
In a speech that blamed the media, the president, music, video games and seemingly everything but the weapon actually used in such killings, LaPierre proposed posting armed police at every school and said the NRA would develop and propose a security plan for schools that includes armed volunteers patrolling playgrounds.
In an instantly infamous quote, LaPierre proclaimed, "The only thing that stops a bad guy with a gun is a good guy with a gun," apparently leaving no room for the possibility that the bad guy shouldn't have a gun in the first place.NRA CEO Wayne LaPierre broke his organization's silence on Friday in the wake of... more

You’ll recall the first ground rule for the press conference was established by NRA President David Keene before he introduced LaPierre: The NRA was going to ignore reporters’ questions until Monday. The words “until Monday” are key.
Public relations professionals, press agents and political spokespersons try to avoid announcing bad news until late afternoon Fridays. They hope the bad news will be less apt to get attention or generate discussion over the weekend. They hope by Monday, the story will be running out of legs because the weekend has defused it.
After a week of silence, LaPierre and the NRA knew they had to say something before gun control advocates took ownership of the discussion about preventing another Sandy Hook slaughter. No matter when the NRA brass crawled out of their spider hole, they were going to have to face the blinding media light.
Obviously, the “quiet until late Friday” trick was doomed. The delay in answering questions until Monday, though, is a deliberate move. Monday is Christmas Eve. Tuesday is Christmas. LaPierre and Keene hope the weekend and the holidays will give them time to regroup and mitigate the damage from LaPierre’s ranting. You’ll recall the first ground rule for the press conference was established by... more

Once Upon A Time, on July 27, 1981, a little boy went shopping with his mother at the Sears store in the Hollywood Florida Mall and never came home.
A beginning of a story that could have been my story; you see, I shopped at the Sears store several times a week. I lived in the neighborhood, as did Revé, John and Adam Walsh; my son was also in the same class as Adam at the St. Mark's Lutheran school. The news of Adam’s kidnapping and murder hit me very hard. I would look at my son and feel so grateful that this, the most horrific, devastating fate that a parent could ever endure, did not happen to me. That feeling didn’t make me feel lucky or special; it just made me realize that in this life, with a blink of an eye, you can be hit with a devastating blow that will alter the path of your short existence for the remainder of your days on this Earth.
After the abhorrent and gruesome incident that took place on December 14th 2012 at Sandy Hook Elementary School in Newtown Connecticut, my thoughts turned back to the time when Adam, a little boy, who because he became separated from his mother for a few short moments, was projected into defenselessness in a world full of demons and monsters. As with the children of Newtown but instead of a separation from safety to horror they were already subjected to terror just by living in a Nation who allowed weapons of war to be bought and sold by its citizens like so many pieces of candy.
I have been blogging on these dangerous laws that our lawmakers pass with hardly a thought, for some time now. A few examples below:
HOW MANY MORE MASS KILLING - July 2012
A Senseless Tragedy Once Again April 2012
Who Does The 'Stand Your Ground' Law Protect: April 2012
War On Fairness (Trayvon Martin Killing) March 2012
It's Not About Gun Control January 2011
Catastrophe in Arizona January 2011
Catastrophe in Arizona - Society's Failures January 2011

The only reward I get in trying to spread the word-- that semi-automatic weapons or concealed weapons or guns in general that can be waved around with little or no regulation, GUNS, WEAPONS that can cause devastating misery through massacres in which many people can be murdered at once within minutes-- is that it allowed me to voice my anger but nothing else, it's like spitting in the wind.
Deaf Ears, so the saying goes, is what all the opinions against gun violence, fell upon. A gnawing gut question keeps circling my brain… “WHY?” A WHY, that no one seems to want to answer, not truthfully anyway.
In the case of Adam Walsh, his dad John Walsh did not allow the “WHY?” to linger on, he was angry that there were no mechanisms or databases in place for the immediate search and rescue of kidnapped and exploited children, he set out to change it.
After hearing the convoluted thoughts of Wayne LaPierre (CEO of NRA) on TV the other day, I believe that he and the many others who share such a mindset are the reason for the gun violence in our country. He and his fellow 5th column co-conspirators (I label them this, not because they deliberately want to destroy Democracy but because they don’t care if it is destroyed, money is the bottom-line) are responsible for the deaths (indirectly or maybe not so indirectly) of so many 'innocents' (all of us who want only to live in peace). Please watch the video '26 Bells' from NBC, without a doubt the saddest reflection of how our American Leaders have turned their backs on our precious children.
Terrorism is well-established here in America, not by suicide bombers but by maniacs with blood on their minds, who can get ahold of a semi-automatic weapon with no effort WHATSOEVER and that is frightening. thinkingblueOnce Upon A Time, on July 27, 1981, a little boy went shopping with his mother at the... more

Members of Congress have ranked the National Rifle Association (NRA) as the most powerful lobbying organization in the country. The Institute for Legislative Action (ILA), the lobbying arm of the National Rifle Association of America, opposes gun-control legislation, calling instead for stricter enforcement of existing laws such as prohibiting convicted felons and violent criminals from possessing firearms and increased sentencing for gun-related crimes.
The lobby opposes any measure which it believes conflicts with the Second Amendment rights of gun owning citizens and as a matter of policy, the NRA endorses any incumbent who supports its positions and vigorously opposes incumbents and candidates who are against them. Members of Congress rank the National Rifle Association as the most powerful lobbying organization in the country. Their inability to fashion any sensible gun regulation confirms the influence the NRA has over members of Congress.
Even the attempted assassination of President Reagan did not spur Congress to examine gun regulations. It took twelve years, for Congress to consider and pass gun regulations, In 1993, President Bill Clinton signed the Brady Handgun Violence Prevention Act, a law requiring prospective gun owners to pass a federal background check before buying a gun. In 1994, a Democratic-controlled Congress passed the Federal Assault Weapons Ban. The law expired in 2004 and multiple attempts to renew it have all failed.
After the Columbine massacre in 1999, the Senate approved S. 254, the Violent and Repeat Juvenile Offender Accountability and Rehabilitation Act of 1999. The bill included provisions on background checks with a mandatory three-day waiting period for background checks at gun shows and safety locks While the bill did passed, the Senators who sponsored the bill; senators who had received backing from the gun lobby, then voted against it. In the House chamber, Republican leaders weakened the bill then killed it with a vote of 280 to 147. It’s a game of charades that intentionally gives a misleading public perception.
In an attempt to mount a legislative response to Citizen’s United, Congress unveiled the Disclose Act. Among other things, it would have required groups that purchased campaign ads to disclose the identity of their donors. But when the National Rifle Association alerted Congressmen that it would mobilize a campaign to kill the bill unless the disclose provision was dropped, Congress wrote a provision of exemptions, in order to accommodate the NRA. While, they heavily support Republicans, there are Democrats who receive their support as well.
Hopefully, in the wake of the Newtown, Conn. massacre, the NRA's political power is facing new challenges. Will NRA-backed Congressmen seriously consider a legislative response to gun violence? Probably not, because politicians are more concerned about reelection than the welfare of the country or the desires of the majority of its citizens.
The NRA boasts a membership of 4 million members they can activate to oppose legislation. It occurs to me that voters who believe there should be some constraint on gun availability far outnumber the membership of the NRA. We need to make our representatives understand that they will not be reelected if they don’t honor the desires of the majority. Remember that we united and beat Citizens United with all its money and influence...we can also break the stranglehold of the NRA.
An American Murder Timeline
In the wake of the Sandy Hook tragedy, there is yet another call for gun control regulations, but if past is prologue, the public will soon forget and go on to other events. For sadly, in this country, our citizens are murdered every single day...one by one... and multiple murders happen with regularity.
Brad’s Blog gives a comprehensive timeline of the multiple killings that have occurred in this country since 1966.Members of Congress have ranked the National Rifle Association (NRA) as the most... more

The Assault Rifle Debate + Human Nature
I am typing this blog as my own views and prospective on the recent shooting at sandy hook elementary and also i think its about that time to reconsider the gun laws, regulations and license restrictions per gun owner, more intense background, mental illness check and possibly class license types of guns. Or make ammunition so extremely expensive that whatever they are using them bullets for are worth it.
For Gun Licenses : Just like drivers license it should be classed as in class A,B,C,D etc. The higher the power the gun is the type of gun license you get. It would be required to lock guns away or you as the gun owner can be charged with the crime if you're gun is used in some mass killing, you did not take proper care of that gun.
Automatic Rifles : Honestly i do not think you need a semi or full automatic rifle to go deer hunting or shooting animals, you can effectively do that with a normal 12 gauge or 22 rifle. Why bring a bushmaster to take down deer, they can debate they were used to prevent crime in riots in Los Angeles and other places but either way you look at it people still died, no matter what gun was used in the riots.
Bullet (Ammo) Tax Increase : So just like smoking cigars, or tabacco products the price on taxes of smoking has gone way up because they want people to stop smoking, so i was thinking if they want to keep guns legal and no bans or restrictions on weapon types to massively tax the cost to buy ammo for that class of weapon since its a higher risk threat. I look at it as since cigars are a lower threat for death and problems vs smoking tabacco well there is where the tax rate increase would be on ammo. Not saying all guns are dangerous but there is better odds in aspects where you can possibly not be killed by a handgun vs a semi or full automatic rifle.
The NRA since it was established many moons ago need to understand that people have changed since the association was founded and built. People have became more mentally crazy and insane and well frankly just adding more weapons into the mix wont help. Even putting law enforcement officials at schools will just give the shooter more reason to kill a police officer as well, granted it might level the playing field but i do not think that will be a valid thing. When a person is in that mindset to go shoot up a school i do not really think they are going to be allowed to be arrested as well by a police officer, they will shoot them as well or try.
Voices are louder then Money, you can throw all that money you want at lobbying and trying to grease the palms of republicans or democrats but overall the public is what makes you're decisions that time of where big business trumped the public is gone now, due to the internet, videos, emails and social media you are bound to loose this battle so might as well accept new guns and regulations be put in place.
My Thoughts.

On Friday morning, the National Rifle Association held its much-anticipated press conference. CEO Wayne LaPierre said that "the only way to stop a bad guy with a gun is with a good guy with a gun" and suggested schools hire armed guards. Then he blamed video games (including the gun-free Mortal Kombat), gun bans in schools, the media, a lack of gun crime prosecutions, and music videos for gun violence.
(See more: A word cloud of this morning's NRA speech)

During the 60’s, as 70 million children from the post-war baby boom became teenagers and young adults, student radicalism and anti-war protests, turned college campuses into centers of debate and scenes of protest. Confrontations between police (pigs) and students sometimes met with disastrous ends as policemen became notorious for harassment and the brutal treatment of citizens.
Nowhere was student discontent more evident than in California which spawned groups like the Weather Underground, the Symbionese Liberation Army and the Black Panther Party.
In 1966, gun laws in the state of California stated:
“ you could carry a loaded gun out on the street so long as it was registered, not concealed and not pointed in a threatening manner.”
In response to police brutality and deaths at the hands of the police, the Black Panther Party formed Black Panther Police Patrols. Members listened to police calls on a short wave radio, rushed to the scene of the arrest with law books in hand and informed the person being arrested of their constitutional rights. They also carried loaded weapons, which were publicly displayed, but were careful to stand at least ten feet from the arrest to avoid allegations of interference with an arrest.
In an attempt to end the Panther Police Patrols, legislator Don Mulford introduced a bill the media called “the Panther Bill”. The Mulford Act repealed the law that permitted citizens to carry loaded weapons in public places.
Upon learning of the Act, the Black Panther Party sent a group of members to the State Capitol to protest. They carried loaded rifles and shotguns, publicly displayed and read the gun law out on the lawn. Despite the fact their act was perfectly legal, they were all arrested. The legislature responded by passing the bill, effectively outlawing Black Panther Safety Patrols. It was signed into law 2 months later by Governor Ronald Reagan.

NRA will hold a press conference this morning at 10:45 AM EST, however don't expect any earth-shattering news. It will be the same-o, same-o that guns don't kill people, but people kill people What the NRA won't say is they are against the sale of assault rifles like the kind Adam Lanza used at the Sandy Hook school to pump 11 rounds into the head of a six year old in just seconds before doing the same to a total of 20 other 6 and 7 innocent school children. The NRA should be listed as a terrorist organization.NRA will hold a press conference this morning at 10:45 AM EST, however don't... more

As I see these faces, hear these voices, read these stories over and over again, I am not overcome by sadness, which would seem rational, I suppose. No, instead, I feel anger. I am angry that this could happen in the first place. I am angry that these innocent lives – children and adult alike (though admittedly the “children” aspect seems to add far more weight to the subject) – were taken at all, let alone in the manner of desperate anguish and unfathomable fear of which they must have experienced in their final moments, while at the hands of an individual whose empathy-less, fractured mind was allowed the means to do so.

Treating One Cause Does Not Negate Addressing the Other: By the logic of the NRA and gun lobby, mental illness is the wild card of mass shootings and no legislation will prevent it.
All of these individuals had either been in the mental healthcare system or exhibited behavior that was consistent with a deteriorating mental state. Some of the weapons were purchased legally, others were acquired illegally. But in all cases, these twisted individuals had unfettered access to assault weapons and sizable amounts of ammunition -- items manufactured for war -- and visited unspeakable horror and carnage on innocent individuals.
