Prepare yourself. Because right now, even as you read this article... the backyards, basements, spare room studios, and street corner stoops of Allentown and Elmwood Ave are abuzz with the creative energy that only The Buffalo Infringement Festival can imbibe in the city's arts community. The application deadline for the 2010 Infringement Festival which takes place in late July has officially passed. And those artists lucky enough to be in the know, are now busy shaping their event proposals, honing their artistic skills, and perfecting their respective crafts. Consider yourself warned... The Infringers have landed.

Due to last years success (and turn-out) the planning process for this years fest began almost immediately after the 2009 festivities wrapped. Since late September, a colorful hodgepodge of characters have been huddled under dim lights in the darkened recess of Nietzsches' back-room. This motley crew of a dozen or so artists, educators, performers, and art enthusiasts make up the organizing team that will be responsible for the spectacle that is The Buffalo Infringement Festival (BIF). To date; they have held mixers, socials, cook-offs, band showcases, and even movie nights all in thinly veiled attempt to raise funds for this all volunteer, 100% homegrown and indigenous art uprising.

Infringement flatly rejects corporate sponsorship. Instead, it relies completely upon on the generous support of people like you, from this The City of Good Neighbors. BIF has grown exponentially not only in size but in popularity since its inception in 2005. Last year, an estimated 8000 festival goers were immersed in a flood of consistently fresh and interestingly real art that seem to flow from the festival like a newly open fire hydrant on a hot summer day. The number of participating artists has snowballed from less then forty in it's first year to the nearly 400 acts this year promises. They hail from artistic disciplines that are as varied as the fifty plus local businesses that act as venues for those eleven cherished days of summer .

BIF claims to have exposed well over 20,000 Buffaloanians to their brand of arts and entertainment through various non-conventional forms of street performance, displays, and exhibits. Infringement resents the absence of art in the everyday lives of us all. And represents an intent to change that taboo. Their aim is to attract an audience as diverse as their artist. So wether you are a contractor, pizza delivery guy, or a working mother, Infringement has something for you. They revel in how different this festival is from every other in the city. They even boast of its ability to do all of this without artistic compromise (or long lines of booths and tables stocked with everything to decorate your country kitchen).

Nope, The Buffalo Infringement Festival is not an opportunity for out of town crafters to syphon desperately needed funds out of the city. Nor will it shy away from tearing down the walls so firmly cemented around what art should, or even could be. No. Infringement's focus is on testing the limits of acceptance, defining the artistic cutting edge, and pushing the proverbial envelope to create a new medium for local and regional artists to tell their story.

Too Much Light Makes The Baby Go Blind: 30 Poems In 60 Minutes

A poetry-themed version of their critically acclaimed signature show, Too Much Light Makes The Baby Go Blind, this ever-changing, lightening-paced performance of 30 Poems In 60 Minutes will be dedicated to theater that is poetic, musical, lyrical, powerful and that sometimes...rhymes.

NEW YORK NEO-FUTURISTS are pleased to present a special edition of their ongoing show Too Much Light Makes The Baby Go Blind in honor of the culmination of National Poetry Month. TOO MUCH LIGHT MAKES THE BABY GO BLIND: 30 POEMS IN 60 MINUTES will be presented at The Kraine Theater (85 East 4th Street, New York, NY 10003) on Friday, April 30th and Saturday, May 1st at 10:30pm.

30 Poems In 60 Minutes will feature New York Neo-Futurists’ Jill Beckman, Desiree Burch, Cara Francis, Kevin R. Free, Ryan Good, Daniel McCoy, Rob Neill, Joey Rizzolo and Lauren Sharpe. They will be joined by alumni favorites Claudia Alick and F. Omar Telan.

In Honor of Poem in Your Pocket Day on April 27th, the Neos will be extending their "poetic footprint" by creating a series of wild postings throughout New York City honoring poems past, present, and Neo-future.
