THE HAPPIEST MEDIUM 3-D will take place on Monday, November 15th (7:30pm) at M1-Lounge (52 Walker Street, New York, NY 10013).

The Happiest Medium is jumping off the computer screen and going 3-D! We’ve picked some of our favorite artists from our inaugural year and asked them to come perform, there will be music, magic, monologues, and mugging for the camera! A neighbourhood guide to Bethnal Green: from monster fry-ups to the men’s club

It may not be the prettiest stretch in town, but with its friendly local buzz and slightly grimy cool, Bethnal Green is a fine place to hang out, with Brick Lane, Spitalfields and Shoreditch just a short trot away. This list could have been really long, but here is a chiselled-down selection of the area’s top face-stuffing, shopping and prancing spots.
Breakfast: E. Pelicci32 Bethnal Green Road, E2 0AG
Wonderful café with the best fry-up, chips, cannelloni and broccoli cheese around. Come for a giant feed and loads of cheeky grins.
Museum: V&A Museum of ChildhoodCambridge Heath Road, E2 9PA

Geared to kids but fun for everyone, the museum features a fun-filled exhibition of toys through the ages, from the most basic of dolls to hi-tech gizmos. Entry is free.
Coffee and antiques: Hurwundeki299 Railway Arches, Cambridge Heath Road, E2 9HA

A bizarre mix of coffee shop and bric-a-brac sale randomly topped off with an antique kids’ playground in the sandy forecourt. It’s an utterly brilliant arm of the oddball Hurwundeki brand, which also includes a boutique on Commercial Street and a salon on Brick Lane.
Market: Columbia Road flower marketColumbia Road, E2
Folks swarm here from all over to snap up cut flowers and plants from the famous Sunday market. It’s crowded, but great fun if you’re in the mood for a slow browse.
Pretty things: Jessie and Buddug's shop Columbia Road, E2 7RG
Buddug Humphreys and Jessie Chorley’s emporium of quirk, now in its spanking new ground-floor location, hosts a gorgeous mix of tea-cup candles, whimsical accessories and handmade notebooks and cards.
Boozers: The Florist and The CamelThe Florist Arms, 225 Globe Road, E2 0JDThe Camel, 277 Globe Road, E2 0JD
Bethnal Green is great for pubs, but two sure bets for a relaxed pint are Globe Road’s Florist and Camel. Both have had savvy refits in recent years, and each has a good range of beers and a specialised menu - pizzas in one, pies in the other.
Fine dining: Bistrotheque23-27 Wadeson Street, E2 9DR
Impeccable, largely British-inspired food served in a sleek converted warehouse. If you’re lucky you’ll get live piano accompaniment involving George Michael covers, and other such gems. Great for dinner or a lazy brunch.
Dancing: Bethnal Green Working Men's Club 42-44 Pollard Row, E2 6NB

A freakish amount of fun is always on the menu here, with many a bizarre but joyful themed party. Be sure to check what’s on, as you could be in for a surf pop, retro cinema, go-go dancing, and frisky burlesque or gay rockabilly night.
Sunday roast: The Royal Oak73 Columbia Road, E2 7RG
It’s worth paying a bit extra for the gob-smackingly good Sunday roast at this atmospheric market-side pub. Like one of our writers put it this week, it's got "sticky icky" in good ol' London Town. You know what that means folks - streaky self-tanned pins out, man sandals and the deadly Sunday combo of sunstroke and hangovers. Oh...and isn't there like, a soccer game on or something??
Redux Warehouse Party

There should only be one answer when you're asked 'What are you doing tonight?' at lunch today. 'REDUX WAREHOUSE JAM'. Why? Because old school reggae legend Dawn Penn will be no-no-no-ing her way through the night while new school reggae champ Lady Chann churns out garage, grime and bashment bangers along some rather heavyweight dubstep talents. Worth the ride to Peckham? Yes.

Shunt Closing Party

No one can keep track of whether Shunt, the multi-use creative lounge in the cavernous arches of London Bridge station, is coming or if it's going. Its Money show is definitely still on, but in spite of the fact the bar JUST reopened its doors, we're now told it's closing again to make way for some concrete fillings. Long story. Tonight sees what they're saying is the closing soiree of the alt-tastic venue - so wear something weird and head on down.

Samba-flavoured football or meditation or...both!
To start the end of your weekend, I suggest heading down to Meditation in the Park, where someone called Guru Kaur (and likely another yogi or two) will be on hand to teach you how to stop thinking, and get into a perfectly peaceful state. That is, before hurling yourself into complete frantic agony watching England go head to head with the Germans later in the afternoon and then drinking in sorrow/joyful revelation alongside Brazilian Samba dancers at Cargo.

World Cup International! The Top 5 Places To Watch The Football In London

By Max Leonard, le cool LondonWord on the street is there’s some sort of major sporting occasion starting imminently. Personally, I try not to form strong emotional attachments to England (I support Spurs, which takes up all the enthusiasm I can muster for habitually disappointing teams wearing white). So I’m going to take advantage of our metropolis – the most cosmopolitan in the world – and watch it with foreign fans instead. Here, in no particular order, are some picks:
1. Hard Rock Café 150 Old Park Lane, W1K 1QZ
My choice for England’s opening match. Like a Continental forward flinging himself to the turf under the faintest of touches, it may look as if I’m cheating, but, I figure that you have to watch England somewhere, and it may as well be in a US stronghold. Go, eat fries and burgers, and talk knowledgeably about ‘soccer’ while the Yanks attempt to win a game – something they failed to do in 2006.
2. Afro Cup Festival at Rich Mix35-47 Bethnal Green Road, E1 6LA
Bethnal Green’s Rich Mix showed some pretty lively African Nations Cup games back in January, and hopefully the World Cup will see the same atmosphere. For 25 nights there’ll be bands from London’s African communities, DJs and football on a 10’x15’ screen.
3. Camino 3 Varnishers Yard, N1 9FD
Spain are a good bet to go all the way, and you won’t be disappointed if you pick this King’s Cross bar for the duration. BBC Radio 5 will be broadcasting live from Camino during Spain games, and £80 buys you a well-placed table, 12 beers and paella for four. There’ll also be a giant screen in the yard.
4. Bincho 16 Old Compton Street
This Japanese restaurant in Soho will be showing Japan’s matches on screens in the bar and, for every goal Japan score, they’ll be giving punters a free glass of warm sake. Back of the net.
5. Bar Italia 22 Frith Street, W1D 4RP
I thought about a lesser team for the final pick (step forward Slovenia, whose countrymen will be colonising The Colonies pub in St James for three games), but Bar Italia is an institution. It will be absolutely packed with London’s Italian community, and, if Italy make a good showing, emotions will run high as the tournament progresses.

Honourable mention number one goes to Wahaca. The upmarket Mexican will give free food to those wearing the Mexico shirt – and, if you stand on the terrace at their Canary Wharf restaurant, I’m reliably informed that giant public screens will be in full view. So eyes and stomachs both win.
And, finally, honourable mention number two goes to Jetlag. Still relatively new to Fitzrovia, it’s nevertheless already made a big impression. In the downstairs (departure?) lounge, you can relax on chaise longues, watch on an HD projector and choose from a dizzying array of World Cup-themed beer and street food, including Brazilian coxinhas, Greek souvlaki, Japanese Asahi and Kiwi Steinlager Pure. There’s a £25 minimum spend but, with their around-the-world-ticket cocktail package (4 for £25), that shouldn’t be difficult.
