When her 16-year-old son got into trouble last November, Rashida Anderson responded with punishment - she took away Kendall's PlayStation.
That proved fatal.
Following a 90-minute argument the day after Thanksgiving, police allege, Kendall went into his sleeping mother's bedroom, hit her 20 times with a claw hammer and ultimately killed her.
The story of Rashida Anderson's bloody end - as told by her son in his confession to Philadelphia police homicide Det. Thorsten Lucke - was read to a Philadelphia Municipal Court judge, who ordered the lanky youth to stand trial for murder, possession of an instrument of crime and abuse of corpse.
Anderson, a lanky 5-foot-8 youth dressed in a blue striped polo shirt and slacks, looked quizzically about the courtroom as Lucke read his confession during the preliminary hearing before Judge Karen Yvette Simmons.
According to Anderson's statement, the 11th grader at Daniel Boone School in North Philadelphia paced for about three hours in his South Philadelphia home trying to decide if he should kill his mother.
"I couldn't stand the arguing," Lucke said, reading the youth's statement.
When the hammer attack did not kill her, Anderson told police, he dragged her downstairs and tried to "cremate her" in the kitchen oven. When that failed, he continued, he beat her in the head with a chair leg before dragging her body outside and hiding under debris in an alley behind the house.
Lucke said that Anderson expressed remorse for the crime and told him: "If I could, I would not do it again. I really miss my mom . . . she was the only person who cared for me."

It should be good news. A proposed Texas law could finally address the problem of teenagers labeled sexual predators for being dumb kids. Sexting teens will now only be charged with a misdemeanor for a first offense. But that's where the good news ends.
Because Texas now wants to punish parents of teens caught sexting. The parents will have to go through an education program on the evils of taking naughty pictures of yourself and shooting them off to your bestie.
OK, let's get this straight, Texas. You think making the parents go through a course on this is going to put an end to it?
Next we'll send parents of kids who get into a fight on the football field to anger management classes. And that teenager who wrecks his car because he drives like a bonehead? Let's send his Dad to driving school.
Yes, parents need to keep track of their kids. Yes, parents need to teach their kids to be responsible, law-abiding citizens. But we've become a nation where everything a kid does wrong is blamed on his or her parents. Sometimes we have to accept kids will be kids -- and that means kids will make mistakes.
That would seem to be the driving reason behind the whole revamp of the sexting law to begin with, to reflect that kids who sext are being stupid but not necessarily trying to spread child porn or hurt someone. They're generally just experimenting sexually, like most kids do.
Because for every stupid parent out there are a whole hand full who simply can't control everything their kids do every second of the day. We provide guidance, but we also have to let our kids make a certain amount of mistakes on their own in order to learn. And while sexting is a serious issue, it's not a plague sweeping American high schools. Only 4 percent of teens (ages 12 to 17) say they've sent a sexually explicit photo or video via text message. It's pretty clear most American parents know it's wrong, and most American kids do too.
Treating this like a parental issue is naive at best. Getting caught sexting, while incredibly stupid, is one of those mistakes that's a kid's own. By its very nature, sexting is something done by teens far away from their parents' eyes, with a niggling fear in the back of the mind that "Oh, my Mom and Dad probably wouldn't approve of this."

If some other parent ever told you that age two was the worst a kid could do, you know what lie that is when they hit the teen years. Hormones, independence, peer pressure, stress, and so much more can turn any freckled-faced kid into a moody, defiant young adult.

An Ohio mom has been convicted and sent to jail for lying about her address so she could send her daughters to a better neighboring school district. School officials said she was cheating the system by having her daughters receive an education she hadn't paid the taxes for. "Those dollars need to stay home with our students," said school officials. To snare her, the school hired a private investigator, who videotaped her driving the children into the district.
They confronted her with the video tape and demanded that she pay $30,000 in back tuition. She refused and they pressed charges. She was sentenced last week to 10 days in jail, three years of probation, and additional community service.
The school district admitted they wanted to make an example of her. Presiding Judge Patricia Cosgrove said, "I felt that some punishment or deterrent was needed for other individuals who might think to defraud the various school districts."
