Joint Vision 2020 builds upon and extends the conceptual template established by Joint Vision 2010 to guide the continuing transformation of America's Armed Forces.
"As we prepare for the future, we must think differently and develop the kinds of
forces and capabilities that can adapt quickly to new challenges and to unexpected
circumstances. We must transform not only the capabilities at our disposal but also the way
we think, the way we train, the way we exercise, and the way we fight. We must transform
not only our armed forces but also the Department that serves them by encouraging a culture
of creative and prudent risk taking. We must promote an entrepreneurial approach to
developing military capabilities, one encourages people to be proactive, not reactive, and
anticipates threats before they emerge."
Secretary of Defense Donald Rumsfeld
Transformation Planning Guidance
April 2003

Selected for the 2004 National Film Registry of "culturally, historically and aesthetically significant" motion pictures.
Famous Civil Defense film for children in which Bert the Turtle shows what to do in case of atomic attack.
As long as we have people that think we can survive a nuclear winter, we're F#!%&#. Spend your money on building peace, not bomb shelters.
Although, come to think of it, Bush and Cheney have a shelter..................Or maybe they truly believe all they have to do is duck and cover.

if its true--does this end nuclear proliferation or create an ANTI arms race of a different type. Mr. Reagan, they made fun of you for STAR WARS--now they're either lying through their teeth about it or we're in a different world... if its true--does this end nuclear proliferation or create an ANTI arms race of a... more

It happens to be Obama, but that's not what matters. What matters is that there should be an ongoing discussion about what sense nuclear proliferation makes. When there are already more atomic bombs than we would need to destroy the entire planet, does it really make sense to constantly give in to this nationalistic machismo whereby states feel they need to stock up in order to play an international role and 'defend' (preemptive?) themselves. All I'm saying is, there's also the other option, at least theoretically... that of eliminating them. Discuss. It happens to be Obama, but that's not what matters. What matters is that there... more

from Sy Hersh: "In a series of public statements in recent months, President Bush and members of his Administration have redefined the war in Iraq, to an increasing degree, as a strategic battle between the United States and Iran." Hersh has been pushing this story for over a year, and WH press secretary Dana Perino dismissed Hersh and his "anonymous sources", but still, this sounds ominous...from Sy Hersh: "In a series of public statements in recent months, President Bush... more

Most of the time, the political jabs that go flying around between countries are just political banter. Somehow though, with a president like Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, you have to pause just a bit more when threats of attack are coming from Iran. The deputy chief for Iran's air force operations said that if attacked, Iran would bomb Israel, and promised to use "all our means". That's worrisome, given that the U.S. is concerned that Iran is building a nuclear weapon...Most of the time, the political jabs that go flying around between countries are just... more
