A woman who had tried to pass the written exam for a driver’s license almost every day since April 2005 has finally succeeded, on her 950th attempt. The woman, Cha Sa-soon, 68, spent more than $4,200 in application fees, but until Wednesday had failed to score the minimum 60 points out of a possible 100 needed to get behind the wheel for a driving test. She finally passed the written exam with a score of 60, said Choi Young-chul, a police official in Jeonju, and now she must pass the driving test. Ms. Cha told The Korea Times that she needed the license for her vegetable-selling business.http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2009/11/05/AR2009110505644.html... more

Be careful when picking a vanity licence plate for your car. In Birmingham, Alabama, it's the policty for traffic wardens to enter seven letter Xs onto their forms when they issue tickets to cars without plates.
Sadly Scottie Roberson, chose exactly seven X's for his plate, as it's a combination of his nickname "Racer X", and his favourite number, seven.
He's now been receiving up to 10 fines a day. There'd been a lack of interest in his problem, but since going public with them officials have arranged for the fines to be dismissed and are working on a new ticketing system for cars without plates.

WASHINGTON, DC (WUSA) -- Nearly 6,000 dead and half a million injured; there is carnage on our roads. At a national summit that just kicked off, experts blamed texting, emailing and web browsing while driving.
But a little more technology may solve the problem caused by all that stuff on your phone.
A company called CellControl is out with a tiny device that attaches to the on-board computer in just about every car built since 1996.
Download the software to your phone, and it will let you call, text or email if you're stopped. But start driving and CellControl will lock you out.
CellControl is marketing the device to parents and fleet managers and just about anyone who lacks the self control to stay off their phone while driving.
CellControl is just out, and it's only available for Blackberry right now at a initial cost of about $75 with a subscription fee of $10 a month.
By the end of the year, the company thinks it will be ready for just about every phone out there.

WASHINGTON - Nearly one-in-five U.S. drivers surveyed have read or sent a text message while behind the wheel even though nearly all of the respondents in an AAA survey released on Friday considered it unacceptable.
"Enacting texting bans for drivers in all 50 states can halt the spread of this dangerous practice among motorists nationwide, and is a key legislative priority for AAA in state capitals," Darbelnet said. The group, which provides emergency road services to its members and lobbies on automobile issues, formerly was known as the American Automobile Association.
The random telephone survey questioned 2,500 U.S. residents 16 and older.
Although nearly all respondents considered the practice unacceptable, 18 percent said they had sent a text message while driving within a month of being surveyed.
About a dozen states have imposed prohibitions and proposals for a national ban have been introduced in Congress.
So have you been guilty of this? And often??? Should it be outlawed?WASHINGTON - Nearly one-in-five U.S. drivers surveyed have read or sent a text... more
