The annual Winter Music Conference in Miami is the single most absorbing event of electronic music dj's, producers, and supporters to take place worldwide. Not to take anything away from the pulsating beats of Ibiza or the sensual beach sounds of Sardegna and Mykonos, but the Conference distinguishes itself from the rest, by being a chance for renowned electronic artists to have their talents recognized through awards, record deals, and a merging of the minds. It is as much business as it is pleasure. All the while, travelers from across the pond and all corners of the North and South Americas pack their bags for the pilgrimage to sun, overpriced drinks, and an experience that in all encompasses the true soul of all things electronic. With little over a week to go until the official conference of 2011 [business], and 3 weeks until the unofficial conference [pleasure], here is a sneak into last year's Eden Roc Hotel Circo Loco party featuring Ibiza regulars Tania Vulcano, Matthias Tanzmann, Lee Burridge, Jamie Jones, Clive Henry, Davide Squillace, Timo Maas, and DJ Sneak. The annual Winter Music Conference in Miami is the single most absorbing event of... more

The soon-to-retire governor of Florida may pardon Jim Morrison for exposing himself on stage at an infamous 1969 Miami concert. Charlie Crist, who is leaving his post in two months, said he is considering a posthumous pardon of the Doors frontman, who was sentenced to jail in 41 years ago for exposing himself and swearing at the crowd."Stay tuned," Crist told US site The Hill this week. "It's something I'm willing to look into in the time I have left."The Doors' performance at Miami's Dinner Key auditorium, on 1 March 1969, is one of the most notorious concerts in American rock'n'roll history. Morrison, a native of Florida, arrived at the oversold gig wasted, after drinking en route from LA to Florida that day - all fired up from a provocative play he had seen in LA the night before. He antagonised the crowd, and recordings certainly prove that he was using some colourful language on stage. He also took off his shirt and he asked if the audience wanted to "see his cock", but to this day it's still unclear if he did actually, show the audience his...morrison.His behaviour spurred a stage invasion and he ended up getting into a fight with the promoter. Morrison and his lawyers had hoped to turn the trial into a First Amendment battle, and he claimed in several later interviews that the trial was a sham.Morrison was ultimately cleared on charges of lascivious behaviour and, bizarrely, drunkenness, but he was convicted of profanity and indecent exposure. Sentenced to six months in prison and a $500 fine. His lawyers were appealing the sentence when Morrison died in Paris in 1971, which meant that he never served any prison time. After losing his Senate bid last week to Republican candidate Marco Rubio, the governor has until January to issue a pardon. His final meeting with Florida's board of executive clemency will take place on 9 December, the day before what would have been Morrison's 68th birthday. "Anything," Crist promised, "is possible."
