Cambridge boffins are studying a 'prehistoric version of Facebook' to gain a unique insight into the daily lives of our ancestors.
Scientists are analysing thousands of images scrawled across two granite rock sites - each the size of a football pitch - in Sweden and Russia.
Archaeologists believe the sites were an early form of 'social networking' used by Bronze Age tribes to communicate with each other.
The site gave different clans the opportunity to build up knowledge and share tips on hunting and other necessities for survival.
Scientists believe ancient man continued to go back to the exact same locations to draw and communicate for thousands of years as it provided them with 'comfort' and a deep human 'connection'.

Don't listen to Facebook, just get rid of your account and you won't even have to worry about this kind of thing with potential employers, or Facebook's ridiculous, ever-changing intrusive privacy policies.
Don't forget that last year Mark Zuckerberg's sister said "anonymity on the Internet has to go away" and Zuckerberg himself called early social networkers "dumbfucks" for giving away their personal information so willingly.
**********
Facebook privacy chief Erin Egan has issued a stern statement regarding employers and prospective employers who ask individuals for their Facebook passwords. Egan cites a “distressing increase” in reports of individuals being asked to turn over their passwords or other Facebook account information to bosses, prospective employees and others.
Addressing users of the social networking site, Egan wrote, “This practice undermines the privacy expectations and the security of both the user and the user’s friends,” and added, “If you are a Facebook user, you should never have to share your password, let anyone access your account, or do anything that might jeopardize the security of your account or violate the privacy of your friends.”
Egan held out the possibility of Facebook taking legal action against organizations and individuals who attempt to coerce users into forfeiting their private information. She wrote that such action “potentially exposes the employer who seeks this access to unanticipated legal liability.”Don't listen to Facebook, just get rid of your account and you won't even... more

Graceful World Change: Meaningful, Fun and Empowering
I have heard that the next stage in world change, the big one,
is going to be to be one of grace and beauty.
I see world change occurring now in articles and applications on the internet.
I hear it in the vocabulary of people I interact with on a daily basis, in the news, and in movies.
You can hear the change coming in the new normal core vocabulary.
Carried on the lips and in the written words of humans is the cure.
The world is breaking loose of its dogmatic ideals and evolving around its living ideas.
The world is becoming aware of itself.
A world looking at itself as a world needing change and balance.
I have been developing ideas around graceful change, designing ideas to make real and meaningful change fun.
I have been testing these ideas in the social networks I am building.
First, I am an artist. I envision painting the world with a big brush. The brush I have chosen is flash mob applications.
A flash mob.
Google it, watch a flash mob on YouTube.
Flash mobs are large groups of people that coordinate their efforts on the internet.
Flash mobs organize and may choreograph their abstract expressions of art or acts, choose a location and time to meet,
and then perform as a flash mob.
Flash mob community renovation projects.
The idea I am developing now is a community trash removal flash mob.
This is how I imagine it working: Participants in the community take pictures of build-ups of trash in their neighborhoods.
The participants then down load their pictures to a localized flash mob website with the location of the trash build up.
Once a week a trash build-up site is chosen from the pictures of the citizen that reported trash.
The flash mob meets at the chosen site.
The flash mob removes all the trash and then films the activity, all within an hour or so.
The filmmakers then up load their videos of the flash (trash) mob onto YouTube to
raise awareness of litter and trash.
The flash mob filmmakers do audits of the trash removed, giving insight to the types of trash
that litter our communities, our roads, our rivers and our oceans.
The idea is to be able to replicate this idea in any community with massive positive impact.
Installing organic orchards with flash mobs.
This is how I imagine it happening: Let's say we are going to plant an orchard. I envision participants going
to YouTube and watching a video on how to plant a tree.
At the end of the video, participants would take a short comprehension test.
After taking the test, they would receive a reservation number giving them a time and place
to attend and participate in the flash mob orchard planting.
An orchard is planted by the same people who one day may eat from it.
Harvesting crops with flash mobs.
Imagine the picking of an orchard or any variety of hand pick able crops using flash mobs.
Of course, a YouTube video with a comprehension test would be a must for sanitary reasons
and picking methods. I imagine the flash mob picking could be choreographed to be graceful
(of coarse all filmed) so as not to damage the fruit or vegetable. A slow motion act of grace.
The act of participating in a flash mob gives the individual a feeling of being a part of some thing bigger
than oneself; a feeling of belonging. A sense of connection to the world and the people in it.
Thank you for your readership and following.

Image: (via Infowars) A visual representation of Invisible Children’s true backers and master minds. They will gladly shed their front group in the name of self-preservation and making a clean escape.
Funny how all of the mainstream news sites are trying to spin this and point out that Jason Russel is a Christian.
Umm excuse me but how many times have your typical lefty Hollywood types like Angelina Jolie, Nicki Minaj, Obama officials and Amnesty International previously been so quick to get on board with the political work of a devout Evangelical Christian?
***
The growing legions of critics and skeptics arrayed against this latest Wall Street-London psychological operation will undoubtedly seize this irresistible bait laid out, either by chance or by design, to focus on finishing off the already mortally wounded “Invisible Children” organization. It is already turning out to be a spectacular crash and burn.
However, the focus must be maintained on the mechanics behind Invisible Children, the fact that they are backed by USAID and that they participated in the US State Department’s Alliance for Youth Movements (Movements.org) summits which laid the groundwork years in advance for the US-engineered “Arab Spring.” It must also be remembered that while they pretend to be a movement of the people, Invisible Children is in fact backed by (page 22) Soros-funded foundations, JP Morgan, Chase, and others.
And as satisfying as many will find it to stomp Invisible Children out of existence for intentionally misleading them, preying on their emotions, insulting their intelligence, and literally lying to them, they must remember that all they’ve managed to do is hack away but a tentacle of a much larger monster. While we have a firm grip on Invisible Children, let’s pull up the whole monster from its murky lair.Image: (via Infowars) A visual representation of Invisible Children’s true... more

Have you ever wanted to participate in a flash mob?
Well this is a flash mob of a different color.
"Viral flash mob micro trash film project"
This is how it started.I wrote the following note to family and friends on facebook;
Hi All
I am working on a documentary about micro trash.
I started by filming road side trash.First i started by shooting a "before clean up"
shot of high density road side trash and then an "after clean" shot.
Next
My next filming will be of a road side pull out with a high density of micro trash.
I will do a before clean up shot(ideally to frame the shot well i will be looking for a crescent shaped pull out.).
Next i will do a half clean up shot to give some contrast of before and after.
The last shot will be a shot with the cleanup complete.
Other planed shots
#2 shoot
Dig down one foot and examine micro trash penetration(along the road/on the beach/in a field)
as it breaks down in to the sand or soil.
#3 shoot
Taking the trash home i will lay out and sort the trash on a tarp,
a trash inventory of sorts.
Weigh of trash collected?
#4 Editing and narrating.
Micro trash is a symptom of a larger social problem.
what is it?
Between now and then
I invite you to film one or more of the same shots and share them on facebook.
THIS IS WHERE THE "VIRAL FLASH MOB MICRO TRASH FILM PROJECT" STARTS.
My intent is to raise awareness about micro trash,
whether it be on the side of the road,on ocean beaches or along rivers.
I am not judging, more than anything,
i am trying to understand the social disease that got the trash there in the first place.
Raising awareness about micro trash i believe will reduce its spread.
How you can help raise awareness;
--Share this with friends, lets get viral.( the things you share with people are a reflection of your character,
the more noble the content you share, the more you bring a environment of nobility in to being.)
--Make a comment or start a conversation.(thoughtful words have a massive positive social ripple effect.)
--chose one of the shots above, film it and share it hear.Have you ever wanted to participate in a flash mob?
Well this is a flash mob of a... more

The National Union of Israeli Students (NUIS) has become a full-time partner in the Israeli government’s efforts to spread its propaganda online and on college campuses around the world.
NUIS has launched a program to pay Israeli university students $2,000 to spread pro-Israel propaganda online for 5 hours per week from the “comfort of home.”
The union is also partnering with Israel’s Jewish Agency to send Israeli students as missionaries to spread propaganda in other countries, for which they will also receive a stipend.
"This active recruitment of Israeli students is part of Israel’s orchestrated effort to suppress the Palestinian solidarity movement under the guise of combating “delegitimization” of Israel and anti-Semitism."
The involvement of the official Israeli student union as well as Haifa University, Tel Aviv University, Ben-Gurion University and Sapir College in these state propaganda programs will likely bolster Palestinian calls for the international boycott of Israeli academic institutions.
Paying students to spread Israeli propaganda online
"This is our opportunity, as Israeli students, to provide hasbara [state propaganda] that is correct and balanced, to help in the struggle against the delegitimization of the State of Israel and against hatred of Jews in the world."
That is one of the exhortations in a Hebrew document issued by NUIS, and translated by The Electronic Intifada, inviting Israeli students to apply for a program to help spread Israel’s message. The National Union of Israeli Students (NUIS) has become a full-time partner in the... more

(Editor's note: This is the second in a series of five Underreported Stories of 2011*)
By Josh SternbergCurrent.com contributor
Just when you thought it was safe to post that scurrilous update to your favorite social network. Earlier this year, The Guardian reported that the U.S military awarded a $2.76 million contract to Ntrepid, a California corporation, to develop software that will create fake personas (sock puppets) to try to influence dialogue among online denizens while propagating American propaganda (though after the Guardian’s article published, military officials told them these fake personas will not be on Twitter or Facebook).
The program has been described as an “online persona management service,” where a military official can operate up to 10 different identities from all around the globe, infiltrating all sorts of social networks.
As reported by The Guardian, according to Centcom (the division of the military that awarded this project) spokesperson Bill Speaks, “The technology supports classified blogging activities on foreign-language websites to enable Centcom to counter violent extremist and enemy propaganda outside the U.S.”

Social networking site Facebook’s latest service Timeline has been globally rolled out. The company said Timeline had so far been available only to a few people, but now it had made it available to everybody. Timeline was announced by Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg at the f8 conference in September. Here’s all you need to know about Facebook Timeline.
What is Timeline
Timeline allows users to compile and let others see everything they have shared so far, from photos, stories to shared videos and music. Some of the things a user can do on Timeline are: edit his basic info, jump to the past, view his activity log, check highlights from each month, star stories he wants to highlight, add life events, update his status, view and add photos and share his a
pp activity.
How it is different from your current profile
Presently, only latest pictures or posts of users are visible, while large part of the previous posts are hidden. The only way to retrieve them is to scroll down and click on “More Stories”. Timeline on the other hand retains a user’s older posts, photos etc and also groups them datewise making it easy and convenient for viewing.
Activating Timeline
To get Timeline, a user needs to simply go to the Introducing Timeline page and click on ‘Get It Now’. Or he can wait till he receives an announcement at the top of his profile.
How it works
Once a user upgrades to Timeline, he will get seven days to review everything that appears on his Timeline before anyone else can see it. You can also choose to publish your Timeline at any time during the review period. If a user decides to wait, his timeline will automatically go live after seven days.
His new Timeline will replace his profile, however, all his stories and photos will remain there. Users, who want to see how their Timeline would appear to other people, can click on the ‘gear menu’ at the top of their Timeline, and select “View As.” This shows them how their timeline will appear to a specific friend or public.
Friends List
For those who always keep their Friends List private, Timeline is a curse as it prominently displays just how ‘popular’ you are on Facebook and who all are connected with you. There is no apparent way to turn it off, unlike earlier settings. This may be a major put-off for those who do not want to share their Friends List with all and sundry for various reasons.

Ilya Zhitomirskiy, the co-founder of Facebook rival Diaspora, has died.
The 22-year-old was one of four New York-based students who launched Diaspora as a "privacy-aware, user-controlled" social network.
It was set up in response to criticism that Facebook was not handling the privacy of its users well.
The cause of Mr Zhitomirskiy's death is yet to be determined. The San Francisco coroner's office said it will have details in several weeks time.
In tribute, the home page of Diaspora featured a giant dandelion seed head next to an image of Mr Zhitomirskiy.
Public memorial services are being planned for Mr Zhitomirskiy in San Francisco later this week.
A statement by co-founder Peter Shurman said: "We'll all miss Ilya more than we can say. Ilya was a great friend and a brilliant person, a visionary whose work for a better future online brought hope to many people."
Start-up
The site was launched a year ago by Mr Zhitomirskiy and three fellow students at New York University. Facebook's co-founder, Mark Zuckerberg, said he donated an undisclosed sum to the project.
Diaspora featured pages that were similar to those on Facebook but offered simpler privacy settings. However, its launch was not without criticism.
When it released its first code in September, developers found multiple security bugs. Some also questioned whether the team could deliver their vision.

Ilya Zhitomirskiy, one of the co-founders of Facebook-alternative Diaspora, died Saturday night at the age of 22.
A spokesman for the San Francisco medical examiner's office confirmed the death of Zhitomirskiy to FoxNews.com, originally reported Sunday by popular tech news blog TechCrunch. He was unable to confirm reports that the young man committed suicide.
Confirmation of the final cause of death could take weeks, he said.
Peter Schurman, a Diaspora spokesman, declined to comment on specific details but acknowledged Zhitomirskiy's death. "We're all very sad that Ilya has passed away," Schurman told FoxNews.com.
The New York University graduate was struggling to launch his social network Diaspora -- an open-source social network Zhitomirskiy started building with classmates Dan Grippi, Maxwell Salzberg and Raphael Sofaer early last year. Their goal was to provide an idealistic Facebook alternative with an emphasis on user control and privacy.
The team struggled with money as it worked to release its website, despite quickly raising $200,000 in funding through venture capitalists and microfinance startup Kickstarter after being featured in The New York Times.
But a blog post from the company on Oct. 12 begged followers for more money; the company argued that PayPal had been "mysteriously and arbitrarily" freezing donations to the site. PayPal reportedly liberated the funds.
