Their inspiration for a style of resistance never before seen in Russia, was the riot grrrl punk movement, including groups like Kathleen Hanna’s Bikini Kill, and flash mobs. The young women of the collective, average age 25, have revealed only the smallest details about their lives. None will divulge their day jobs. They only use first-names. In the two weeks since their mid-January action, the all-female group has become a potent symbol of anger at the status quo in Russian society and their videos have gone viral all over the world. Like many young people in Russia, the members of the Pussy Riot collective are furious at Vladamir Putin’s plans to seek the presidency again and his return was the impetus behind the formation of the group (as well as their song “Putin Has Pissed Himself”). http://www.freeturbine.com/index.php/news/general-music-news/item/pussy-riot-revolt-in-russia-putin-s-got-scaredTheir inspiration for a style of resistance never before seen in Russia, was the riot... more

LOUP is a mix between free-jazz, drone and noise, captured in a voluntary, affirmed and exciting flux, which gave them the opportunity to support bands such as Rangda (Chris Corsano, Rick Bishop, Ben Chasny) and The Thing ( Mats Gustafsson's trio) with Otomo Yoshihide; LOUP sounds definitely right http://www.freeturbine.com/index.php/free-albums/L/47-loup/55-the-openingLOUP is a mix between free-jazz, drone and noise, captured in a voluntary, affirmed... more

Test run of (d)iskette (O)rgan doing Toccata & Fugue ..... Features two 3 1/2" drives and two 5 1/4" drives connected to a PIC18f14k50 microcontroller. It interfaces to any MIDI source via MIDI over USB. Straight MIDI would also be possible with an additional small circuit and some minor firmware changes. This initial version can respond to all 128 MIDI notes, and pitch bends +/- 2 semitones. As it can produce only four simultaneous notes, and each drive has a different range and tonal characteristics, best results are obtained by arranging compositions by hand. However, it features two modes of operation: in one mode, MIDI channels 1 through 4 are played directly on floppy drives 1 through 4. In the other mode, all 16 MIDI channels are read, and notes are "intelligently" divvied out on a first-come, first-serve basis. "Note stealing" ensures that melody lines sound, but chords are often cut short. One or the other produces acceptable results for many unmodified MIDI files straight out of your favorite media player.

Music uses the laws of vibration to manifest aurally what exists at the center of everything. Into our reality springs a non-visual harmonic law that is universal. The notes and intervals of music speak directly to the chakra centers and causes them to vibrate in harmony to the vibration of a string or vocal chords, speakers moving through the air, or the sound of someone’s lips making a farting noise through a metal tube. http://www.freeturbine.com/index.php/news/general-music-news/item/the-sacred-geometry-of-musicMusic uses the laws of vibration to manifest aurally what exists at the center of... more

The city of Tiumen' in southern Siberia is located more than 1,300 miles from the Russian capital. It is also, on a less celebrated level, home to the youthful glitch-hop practitioner known as Koin Nockio. In other related venues, he sometimes adopts the equally mysterious identity of "Konstantin Chyo" (his real surname, however, appears to be Bolotnikov). Partially responsible for the workings of a Siberian dubstep label, Nockio has been authoring his own music for the last three years. In his own words, "my first efforts were a real experimental mishmash, but they at least were an initial, important step en route to further developments."..... http://www.freeturbine.com/index.php/news/netlabel-news/item/dissonant-field-recordings-raw-nd-aortha-koin-nockio-and-roomdarkThe city of Tiumen' in southern Siberia is located more than 1,300 miles from the... more

On a recent account signup, Google asked me to type something illegible. So I hit the "play" button so I could understand it. What I heard was even more disturbing (google "captcha" on youtube, others have discovered it too). A mix of backwards and garbled voices with an anonymous robot reads random words at disjointed intervals. It sounds like digital ghosts have attacked your computer, much like those awful Hollywood EVP movies...... I was startled at first, then intriqued. What were the backwards voices saying? Not to mention the dadaist minimalist poetry that the robot spurted out. http://www.freeturbine.com/index.php/news/album-reviews/item/lee-rosevere-the-devil-is-a-captchaOn a recent account signup, Google asked me to type something illegible. Follows Barbatos through his series of dreams turned nightmares, as he continues use of the Hallucinogenic Sedative. His vivid dreams are depicted by the the ambient, and dark sounds that accompany these new worlds. Each dream seems to close the gap between vivid imagination and a dark reality, and the journey from one extreme to the other is where our story unfolds. http://www.makeahistory.com/index.php/dark/42992-master-toadFollows Barbatos through his series of dreams turned nightmares, as he continues use... more

The wyrm came crawling but Woden took nine glory-twigs and struck the adder so that it flew into nine parts.
Woden learned the secret of the runes after sacrificing himself to himself. The Scandinavian rune alphabet is called the futhark or fuþark, The Anglo-Saxon one is known as the Futhorc or Fuþorc.
This music video shows ancient rune stones from Sweden and Britain. All of them were carved between the 7th and 11th century.

You may be surprised to learn that the voder and vocoder date back to 1939 and 1940, respectively. Considered the first electrical speech synthesizer, VODER (Voice Operation DEmonstratoR) was developed by Homer Dudley at Bell Labs and demonstrated at both the 1939 New York World's Fair and the 1939 Golden Gate International Exposition. Difficult to use and difficult to operate, VODER nonetheless paved the way for future machine-generated speech. http://www.freeturbine.com/index.php/news/general-music-news/item/a-brief-voder-and-vocoder-history-early-speech-synthesizerYou may be surprised to learn that the voder and vocoder date back to 1939 and 1940,... more

Each Complex Silence release features a different artist. The creative challenge is to explore the depths of long-form ambient music composed entirely of extremely subtle changes, dissonant harmonies, stretched-out harmonics, abstract tone washes, layers of mystical atmospheres, or field recordings, but without straying too far from beauty, mystery, or wonder.... The Complex Silence challenge is an open invitation to ambient musicians who would enjoy contributing their interpretations and explorations of these musical themes and ideas. http://www.freeturbine.com/index.php/news/netlabel-news/item/complex-silence-call-for-submissionsEach Complex Silence release features a different artist. The bands consists of four wild and adventurous members who all share a passion for life and a flair for exploration and adventure. Their style progresses back and forth and takes inspiration from all parts of life, both now and back then. A common thread however can be found in their music and can be described as downtempo, trip-hop, electronica, breakbeat, chillout, cinematic, and even experimental at times, and finally their very own coined genre, space-trip; or so they would like to think. Their greatest inspiration is God, everything that is seen and unseen, and through this their music is an expression of philosophical ideals and spontaneous musical creation. http://www.freeturbine.com/index.php/free-albums/X/15-the-x-structureThe bands consists of four wild and adventurous members who all share a passion for... more

"Full with Noise,..." is about noise music, specifically the version that has come to be called Japanese Noise -- itself composed of many different strands. The first half deals with the question of noise. What is it, whose is it, and how can we think about it. Also, how does noise inflect our thinking, rather than being an object; at what point does noise lose its noiseness and become meaning, music, signification? Or -- is there even a point where noise can subsist? Mostly, the text below takes the view that noise is a function of not-noise, itself a function of not being noise. Noise is no more original than music or meaning, and yet its position is to indicate the banished, overcome primordiality, and cannot lose this 'meaning'. Noise, then, is neither the outside of language nor music, nor is it simply categorisable, at some point or other, as belonging exclusively to the world of meaning, understanding, truth and knowledge. Instead, noise operates as a function of differance. http://www.makeahistory.com/index.php/album-rewievs/42968-full-with-noise-theory-and-japanese-noise-music"Full with Noise,..." is about noise music, specifically the version that... more

Merzbow was born in Tokyo in 1981, the bastard son of Masami Akita. Inspired by Dadaism and Surrealism, Akita took the name for his project from German artist Kurt Schwitters' pre-War architectural assemblage "The Cathedral of Erotic Misery" done in his "merz" style-- a confluence of the organic and the geometric. "Merzbau" referred to his houses. Just as Schwitters attacked the entrenched artistic traditions of his time with his revolutionary Avant-garde collages, so too would Akita challenge the contemporary concept of what is called music http://www.makeahistory.com/index.php/album-rewievs/39119-the-beauty-of-noise-merzbow-free-cdsMerzbow was born in Tokyo in 1981, the bastard son of Masami Akita. Possessing one of contemporary music’s most incendiary live shows and a clutch of critically acclaimed albums, Rhode Island duo Lightning Bolt have earned wild praise from some of music’s bigwigs (the likes of Steve Albini, John Peel). Their drum/bass set-up might sound limiting, but the uncompromising music and textures they create are anything but. They have just recently released Earthly Delights, their fifth album, and first since 2005’s lauded Hypermagic Mountain, and is further example of their unclassifiable sound. Their music straddles genres such as metal, noise, punk, prog, and favours textures, rhythms, and riffs over easy listening. http://www.makeahistory.com/index.php/album-rewievs/31047-lightning-boltPossessing one of contemporary music’s most incendiary live shows and a clutch... more
