When a right-wing British tabloid has to invoke an American left-liberal politician to get people voting for their candidate of choice, you know this is definitely an election that hasn't quite gone to plan for them.
The Sun, faced with an unexpected boost of interest and support for Nick Clegg's Liberal Democrats and their encapsulation of political change, has pulled out all the stops for today's frontpage. If, that is, pulling out all the stops means lazily ripping off Shepard Fairey's "Obama Hope" poster from the US elections.
It's either a brilliant parody of Britain's self-deprecating view of our own election and politicians compared to America's bombastic Presidential battle or it's a cringe-worthy effort that's crying out for parody. Step forward, the internet:
You can make your own poster using this template. Typeface: this one is very similar to the original font Shepard Fairey used (and it's free) or if you're lazy just use Gill sans bold. When a right-wing British tabloid has to invoke an American left-liberal politician to... more

Who thought we photographers would see the day?
I for one, have been waiting rather (im)patiently for this arrival.
The release includes two editions of Photoshop CS5, The extended and original.
I am also pretty ecstatic concerning Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 2.
Its a neat little program in which you streamline your digital photography with "an intuitive digital darkroom and efficient assistant for photographers."
Now if I could only get a hold of the trial version...

The Snooki meme gained popularity through the weekend. It was blogged about by Urlesque, Tosh.0, and us (obviously.) The photoshop meme spawned two image macro mills. Even though new images are being produced hourly, the popularity seems to have slowed down.
People are becoming disinterested in photoshopping Snooki places she doesn't belong. Plus she's actually appearing places she doesn't belong IN REAL LIFE. No photoshop necessary.
She knows the fastest way to kill her meme, is to party with the star of How To Be A Player.
But as the saying goes: "If you party with Bill Bellamy, your meme will die."
I'm sorry to say this, but meme-over Snooki. The Snooki meme gained popularity through the weekend. It was blogged about by... more

People call things FAILs, when they aren’t FAILworthy at all. I attempt to find WINness in everything. This is another edition of some FAILs that I don’t think are really FAILs.
There is no way that this is a FAIL. The composition is incredible! The magenta borders really accent the figure's thighs.
At this level of competitive gameplay, your opponents will distract you with anything they can think of. If you succumb to that alleged-WIN in the corner, you will FAIL.
These firefighters are hardworking professionals. They work long hours, to do jobs most of us couldn't. But lunch starts at noon, everyday. No exceptions!
I know you think puns are stupid, but that's when humans think of them. It's amazing that this cat can even comprehend puns, let alone write one. She calls this performance "CAT-ctus". What further brilliance can we expect from this tiny feline?
This picture points out the inadequacies of the tenure system at American universities. Facts change over time, and professors must adapt. I say hire new instructors, so we can finally find out what 4 & 3 make.
I know you don't support Canadian autonomy, but this is a joke. The owners of this laminated sheet are humorously noting the nuances of Canadian English. You should learn for yourself. One day you might want to convince a girl from Edmonton, that you're from Calgary, and you do not want to slip up.
Hey buddy don't worry, you're still safe. That's not her real mouth. She's just wearing a mask with a cartoon face on it. She's not going to infect you.
Catch up on your FAILs that aren’t FAILS.

Our friends at Urlesque have discovered an exciting new meme:
When one dude realized recently that all the photos of him and his pals featured tall cold ones (beer), he needed to do something about it. This was getting out of hand. What was he, some sort of wino over here? Heh???
What better substitution, he discovered, for booze than cats, right? That's why he (and faithful submitters) went and replaced all the brewskies in the photos with furry felines, or "Boozecats."
Photoshopping cats on to alcoholic beverages is the wave of the future.
I shall now attempt to make my own.Our friends at Urlesque have discovered an exciting new meme:

You know when you think of a terrible joke, but then it turns out that nobody else on the internet has thought of it, and then you feel obligated to photoshop it?
Surprisingly people were into my last "terrible joke to terrible photoshop" perhaps this will also be sufficient.

After last week's UN meetings, the Obamas took a photos with José Luis Rodríguez Zapatero and the Spanish Prime Minister's family. The daughters dressed like they were preparing for a night out with The Cure.
The Prime Minister has tried to keep his daughters out of the public eye. Despite convincing the state-owned Spanish news agency EFE not to distribute the photos, the images ended up on the front page of several Spanish newspapers.
These first daughters have potential to be the most notable Goths in Spain since the Visigoth conquest of the 7th century. The Goth subculture exists in Spain, as it does in much of the world. Goticos were featured in a 2006 episode of a Spanish news magazine.
[youtube iCWXKmjgSyg]
The Gothic family photos have prompted a Facebook group called Las hijas góticas de Zapatero. The group has over 14 thousand fans. And like all great newsworthy images, these pictures have prompted Photoshoppers worldwide to turn this into a meme.
There is the minimalist approach, by dressing the entire party in black, to signify their inner angst.
Then we have a more hardcore version of the Rodriguez Zapatero daughters leading the group in a Satanic sacrificial ritual. Note the US president's commitment to cultural diversity, by symbolically "raising the horns."
Meme-sters have quickly connected the Goths with cinema. In these examples we see references to The Ring, The Shining, Edward Scissorhands and The Exorcist.
The final image shows the entire clan celebrating the commercialism of contemporary Goth culture, alongside pro-heavy metal activists Los Hermanos Alcázar. The 41 year-old twins stand in front of the site of a former Madrid rock venue every night, to commemorate its legacy. They are avidly opposed to the commodification of rock n roll.
Spain has a bright future in darkness.
Learn how to Goth yourself.

Our friends over at Urlesque, proposed the idea that we have a very special celebration on 9.9.09. At first I thought they wanted to celebrate the 18th birthday of the central Asian nation, Tajikstan (you finally legal baby!)
Alas the Tajikstanis were not on their mind.
Instead they proposed a day to celebrate 'that which is not there.' This celebration of absence is not some obscure branch of metaphysical nihilism.
The goal is to revel in a break from an obnoxious constant.
What single thing has permeated the internet? What being has made itself so ubiquitous across the vast reaches of cyberspace? What small domesticated mammal has become synonymous with LOLs? Which whiskered beast has been the harbinger of disaster?
Today, 9.9.09 there shall be no discussion of this critter. Today we are free to 'paint the town red' for other members of the Chordata phylum.
In the absence I choose to celebrate: Keyboard Capybara. Who will you celebrate?
Thank you to Current user saverio for getting me thinking about the lovely Capybara. Our friends over at Urlesque, proposed the idea that we have a very special... more

People call a lot of things FAILs that I think we should reconsider. In this post I try to turn FAILs into WINs or at least STALEMATEs.
Oh yeah I get it, it's a FAIL, because it's a hotel that has the same name as a very derogatory name for a jerk. But did you ever consider that the owners of the hotel, might in fact be Kuntz? Did you ever think that they might be related to German Champion Stefan Kuntz? Think twice, before you joke!
Yeah that's a picture of Steven Tyler, from the famous band Aerosmith. Does dude look like a grandma? I don't thinkso. My grandma does not have glasses that look that cool. So Steven Tyler wins. That makes me think of this.
I imagine that it sucks when you stop thinking the joke is funny, halfway through creating the photoshop.
I guess this is a FAIL, but it is completely forgivable if your drug dealer is named Momberg.
This isn't a FAIL! Get your heads out of the gutter people! This young man is trying to prevent his sister from getting hyponatremia. This is potentially deadly condition occurs, when an individual consumes too much H2O, and the sodium levels in the body are diluted. The girl depicted in the fountain, obviously is "rolling" on MDMA, a diuretic, her brother's concern is saving her life.
The question of whether or not this is a FAIL, depends solely on whether they are renters or owners. If they are renters, then they are pwnd.People call a lot of things FAILs that I think we should reconsider. In this post I... more

Current TV is re-airing Embedded, a six-part music special that gives you intimate, exclusive access to artists, and here at the blog we’re packing in everything you need to know about each section of each show into one handy post.
We'd spent serious time with Death Cab for Cutie when documenting their album "Narrow Stairs." After that many hours with a band you'll learn plenty you weren't expecting to, like that bassist Nick Harmer is one hell of a photographer. His specialty is making "tilt-shift miniatures," photos that look as if they've been shrunk or shot from an airplane, skewing your perspective. Nick took us along for a Tour Stop segment in San Francisco, then walked us through his own post-production process.
In this outtake, Nick gives a step-by-step tutorial in Photoshop:
Here are more of Nick's own photos, from his Flickr:

Current Music landed some big names long before Embedded: Radiohead played all of "In Rainbows" on New Year's Eve 2006. We crashed MoMA to film a show with Sigur Ros and then let the Flaming Lips crash Current to debut their Christmas on Mars. We recruited thousands of fans to help make "All Eyes on My Morning Jacket."
But it was the time we spent with Death Cab For Cutie as the band finished their album "Narrow Stairs" and prepared to go on tour—captured in a half-hour special called "Open Windows"—that we pointed to when explaining to our bosses (and to managers, artists and record labels) just what kind of show we wanted to make more of. [Watch a preview for of the show here; sadly our rights to the full piece have expired, so it's not online.]

Despite my early suspicions - this crazy spiral light in Norway is not a Photoshop/After Effects treat. (I mean, sure there's video. But Current's Mike Horn also uploaded video to the Internet of Star Wars imperial troops in San Francisco.)
Was it aliens? Crazy Northern lights? A "weather balloon"? Apparently it was a failed Russian missile test.
Russia's defense ministry said a Bulava missile was launched Wednesday by a nuclear submarine submerged in the White Sea and its third stage suffered an unspecified failure.
Photographs and amateur video footage of the bluish-white in the Norwegian skies have been circulating on the Internet since Wednesday. The ministry did not confirm that these lights were the result of the failed launch but military analysts said the lights were clearly a result from explosion of the Bulava.
This kind of light show comes from a failed missile launch," said Pavel Felgenhauer, an independent military analyst. "Russia has run free fireworks for the Norwegians."
I'm sure Norwegians are thrilled that the Russian military is treating them to a free fireworks show in the sky using ICBMs launched from submarines. It's bad publicity for the Russian military, who is battling the degradation of their military technology in the post-Soviet era. This is reportedly the 8th failure of this type of missile in 12 total tests. But for a country determined to still flex itself militarily, fixing these problems will have to be a priority.
