Primal Fusion is a Waterloo-based startup that is about to come out of stealth mode, with a technology focused in semantic data retrieval.
You can find transcription of the main issues of this video presentation down here below:
I have a love/hate relationship with Internet: I love all the content out there, but I hate how time consuming it has become to pull all the information together, and get stuff done.
Today we’re going to introduce a better way: a new approach we call “thought networking“.
Let’s imagine that I’m a journalist, and my editor has just hit me with a deadline. I need to find an interesting subject on social networking, and my article is due tomorrow. Primal Fusion can help me with this. (continue...)Primal Fusion is a Waterloo-based startup that is about to come out of stealth mode,... more

As if the first version wasn't fast enough to start with, Google's Beta of their Chrome 2 browser is reportedly 'twice as fast' as its predecessor.
Google are claiming that the latest build of Chrome will be 25% faster on the V8 benchmark and 35% quicker on Sunspider, as well as nearly 50% quicker than the original beta version.
And if that's not enough, it will be able to auto-fill forms for you, zoom entire webpages and a drag feature on tabs to show 'side-by-side views of pages.'
Sounds ace, here's hoping it'll available on a Mac...As if the first version wasn't fast enough to start with, Google's Beta of... more

The latest project by Stephen Wolfram is defined as the first “computational knowledge engine”, something capable of answering factual question for you.
The Wolfram engine is described as “a proprietary system based on fields of knowledge, containing terabytes of curated data and millions of lines of algorithms to represent real-world knowledge as we know it”.
The engine is scheduled to sort out of his private demo in May and most details have yet to be released to the public; nonetheless, Nova Spivack, CEO at Radar Networks (which developed Twine) saw the demo and had a chance to talk with Wolfram himself (something quite rare, given the almost legendary elusive nature of the author)…

Now that's one hell of a claim, but the British physicist that's behind the launch of new internet search engine, isn't alone in thinking it, 'experts' have apparently agreed with his claims.
Prof. Stephen Wolfram, the founder of software company Wolfram Research, spoke to the media saying that phase one of his new 'computational knowledge engine' was almost complete.
This new search engine won't work in the same way that Google and Yahoo do; by searching through billions of pages and then pointing you in to a selection. It'll 'only answer questions that have been literally asked before. It can look things up, but can’t figure anything new out.'
But...Wolfram claims that it will be able to understand what you are looking for and then calculate a single precise answer. He went on to explain that 'There will be one simple input field that gives access to a huge system, with trillions of pieces of curated data and millions of lines of algorithms.'
Sounds interesting, but is it really going to be a Google killer? Now that's one hell of a claim, but the British physicist that's behind the... more

Yahoo Inc Chief Financial Officer Blake Jorgensen is leaving amid a broad reorganization initiated by new CEO Carol Bartz to dismantle the "silos" that slowed down the Internet company.
Bartz, who took the reins six weeks ago, announced the changes in a blog post on Thursday, as well as in an e-mail to Yahoo employees.
"Today I'm rolling out a new management structure that I believe will make Yahoo a lot faster on its feet," Bartz wrote on the corporate blog. "We'll be able to make speedier decisions, the notorious silos are gone, and we have a renewed focus on the customer."
Yahoo's technology and product groups will be combined into one entity led by Chief Technology Officer Ari Balogh, according to Bartz's email to employees.
The company, which lags far behind Internet search leader Google Inc, has initiated a search for a new CFO, and Jorgensen will remain through a transition period, Yahoo said in a filing with the U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission on Thursday.
Jorgensen is the latest executive to depart in recent weeks. Neeraj Khemlani, head of Yahoo's news and information group, and Jill Nash, chief communications officer, have also left the company.

As a avid user of Google video I was very disappointed today to find out that the mega info giant will be canceling its video services in a couple of months. The reason Google is a million times better than Youtube is Google allows you to upload videos over 10 minutes! As a matter of fact I've uploaded 2 hour videos with now problem... now all that is going away.
Googles PR team is trying to spin it saying that they want to focus more on their original plans, internet searching. I think its total BS, Google has probably been pressured by other media companies to stop their services because a large number of people would upload movies, etc.
There is also the other possibility that Google just got their digital asses kicked by Youtube!
Such a shame Google is hanging up the video venture, their service was much better than the competition and I actually would have paid $10 a month to use it.
What do you think, why the hell is Google backing down now?
If you want to read the official candy coated statement from Google here it is.

You just have to highlight and drag a keyword or phrase (just anywhere else on the screen, even immediately next to the text - it’s the movement that matters) and a query is triggered.

The Invisible or Deep Web is represented by all kind of content not being indexed by broad search engines, even if it’s actually online. In this sense is a complement of the Surface Web.
Just think of the Internet as an ocean to fish in for information. You can either drag your Net on the surface (and still catch a vast amount of information) or dive deeper for the most rare, most useful items for your niche of interest.
Estimates of the New York Times set the Surface Web over 8 billion pages; search engines are said to crawl only 16-20% of the Internet. (continue....)The Invisible or Deep Web is represented by all kind of content not being indexed by... more
