Here’s the synopsis of Twelve, just to get you started. Notice that the murder plot spelled out below is barely hinted at in this 3-minute clip:
Based on the critically acclaimed novel by Nick McDonell, written when he was only 17 years old, Twelve is a chilling chronicle of privileged urban adolescence on the Upper East Side of Manhattan. Set over spring break, the story follows White Mike, a kid with unlimited potential, who has dropped out of his senior year of high school and sells marijuana to his rich, spoiled peers. When his cousin is brutally murdered in an east Harlem project, and his best friend is arrested for the crime, White Mike is hurled on a collision course with his own destiny.
Led by director Joel Schumacher, a talented ensemble cast perfectly captures the obvious pain of children teetering on the brink of adulthood. Schumacher counters their overindulged behavior with operatic staging and a literary voice-over. For every decade, there are moments when youth culture is frozen in “art,” to be reveled in by the generation that lived it and observed by those that didn’t. That is Twelve.

This teaser trailer is a great example of what a teaser should do; not really in terms of how it needs to go, per se, but in how you should feel after having watched it. There should be more questions than there are answers but, and here’s the paradox, you need to have people excited without knowing why.
This film, written and directed by Thomas Ikimi looks like a visual feast that not only feels like a claustrophobic character study but there is some genuine anxiety that’s created without ever knowing what’s going on.

The synopsis: Pharmaceutical CEO Michael Pacman is forced to take his own dangerous medications in order to survive a maze designed by a sadistic patient out for revenge. This 2-minute trailer satirizes and skewers Hollywood's love for taking video games with barely any plot (e.g. Street Fighter, Mortal Kombat, etc.) and turning them into abominably bad feature films. In this trailer, Pacman is given the "Saw" treatment - enter a dark and disturbing world filled with pellets, ghosts, and yes, Pacman.

Current Green
Leah Lamb offered up a guest blog post from our Sustainable Agriculture group leader, JanForGore. She gives us the details on Biopiracy in the age of climate change and food shortages. Here's a snip:
Biopiracy is the patenting of indigenous bio-diversity related knowledge. For purposes of this writing, the patenting of natural traits found in plants, which is now described as epidemic. While the rewarding of patents should be based on inventiveness and original creativity, it has become a license for corporations to steal such indigenous traits endemic to nature already naturally cultivated by indigenous farmers for centuries. This is done to make fast cash and to take advantage of the climate crisis and food shortages which ironically are also exacerbated through monoculture industrial methods of what I like to call ‘strip farming.’ Such methods have stripped soil nutrients and carbon essential for sustainability of the land and our climate balance.

Marsden's novel — the first of a whole series — is an Australian cult classic and follows the story of a band of teenagers who must defend themselves and their small town against a foreign invasion. So, pretty much "Red Dawn" set in Australia.
"Tomorrow, When The War Began" doesn't have a U.S. release as of yet but will hit Australian theaters this September.

Exit Through the Gift Shop is a documentary directed by British street artist Banksy. It was originally being put together by French wannabe filmmaker Thierry Guetta, but when he lost his grip on the project, Banksy took all of his tapes and just decided to finish the film on his own. This first premiered at the Sundance Film Festival earlier this year to quite a bit of praise (read Brandon's review). It was also announced recently, instead of selling to a big distributor, Cinetic Media is releasing the film through the Producers Distribution Agency. Exit Through the Gift Shop will open in limited theaters (in NY, LA and SF) starting on April 16th.
