Magazines are being printed in volumes every day, and the sheer bulk in waste is staggering. Time magazine prints more than four million copies a year, all in a slick glossy format that has not always been recyclable. But now, a technological gadget could provide a means for curbing the amount of glossy magazines that are produced-and therefore the number that end up in landfills.

For the past couple of weeks the dentist office has been calling me repeatedly. I was avoiding their calls, but their persistence convinced me to acquiesce. I don't like the idea of paying for dental care, especially after the dentist convinced me to buy that expensive electric toothbrush.
My mom kept telling me I needed to go, but I surmise that she is just a pawn of the health care industry. When they say "you need to come back every six months" they really mean "you need to come back every twelve months, but if you come back every six, we'll make more money."
My company provides me with a great health plan, so I finally decided to go to the dentist today.
The experience was unexpectedly divine. The polish no longer has that putrid taste it once did, now its cinnamon flavored! New technology lets you decide whether you want piña colada, cotton candy, or mango fluoride. Sure I have a small cavity on my right maxillary third molar, but I read magazines! I laughed with the dental hygenist over adorable videos being shown on local news!

So if you're unsure if you should go for a regular cleaning consider this: you get it all AND a bag of floss!
And if money is your concern, there is always Mexico!

Frank Iero, who plays guitar for My Chemical Romance, spent some of the band's break recording and then touring with Leathermouth (Epitaph Records), his much harder-core "vehicle for unfiltered ranting," as the editor of Alternative Press calls it in a letter accompanying the band's cover story in the new issue.
But it turns out that one of Iero's angry songs, "I Am Going To Kill The President Of The United States Of America" -- written about George W. Bush, inspired by anti-America rallies he saw while on tour with the band in Europe -- was taken very seriously and quite literally by the Secret Service:
"The government comes to your house, searches everything and talks to your wife for hours," says Iero, adjusting the sleeves on his hoodie. "Then you have to get a real expensive attorney to keep you out of prison for five years. I had a long talk with the gentlemen of the Secret Service. [It was the] straight-up dark suits, sunglasses, Men In Black-vibe--I thought they were going to do the mind-erase thing [like in the movie].

Don't say the magazine industry is dead yet - there's still some space left for expansion - like into the world of international terrorism.
Neal Ungerleider at True/Slant found this gem of jihadi literature online. It's a dense 73 pages and is titled "The Echo of Battle". (Maybe the magazine industry just needs to work on its titling?) Interestingly, it seems to feature a lot of discussions of movement philosophy as well as some very charming stock imagery:
