Experiences like the random five-player dungeon are the essence of an MMO, however irritating they are. They take you from a few anonymous pieces of a dynamic archetypal role system and bring each of you together in beautiful unison. It’s not even a matter of getting to know each other past what the game wants, it’s recognizing the roles at play and finding out how to compensate for the group’s weaknesses. They start out rough, but they end in triumph.Experiences like the random five-player dungeon are the essence of an MMO, however... more

Tyler Colp writes: "I think it was impatience that drove me to cheat. I wasn’t angry, nor was I frustrated, I think it was the MMO drive to play with the big boys. I had friends that would be amazed at the stories I could tell and the equipment I could display. I would tell them, 'I have been to the depths of the Outlands; I have defeated the monstrosities that call it their home!' I had no intention of going as deep as I did.
And then I learned to cheat."Tyler Colp writes: "I think it was impatience that drove me to cheat. I... more

An innate sense of guilty invigoration occurs when rules are broken. World of Warcraft wasn’t strict when it came to environmental rules, players could explore wherever they wanted to, if the location was not intended for their stay, the enemies would kill you until you left. Exceptions to the promise of immediate death were available though, Shattrath being one of them.An innate sense of guilty invigoration occurs when rules are broken. World of Warcraft... more

As soon as I heard the “Mists of Pandaria” moniker, I rolled my eyes–a reaction I’ve never had from a new expansion announcement. The idea of an expansion’s worth of content focusing on the Pandaren, a mystical race that began as an April Fool’s joke, was disappointing, especially for a fan of the lore, aware of locations just aching to be explored. Now it’s official, WoW’s newest expansion will allow players to explore the home continent of the mysterious Pandaren race and play as them too. This expansion marks the first of Blizzard’s faster content cycle, I was quick to describe it as a copout, but after seeing what they have to offer, I no longer believe it is.As soon as I heard the “Mists of Pandaria” moniker, I rolled my... more

Blizzard knows they have a great game on there hands and if you just try it you will love it. So they are now offering something brand new to get new users on board with the much loved and biggest MMO RPG there is.
Called the starter edition, it gives you access to some of the main game and parts of The Burning Crusade. After you hit the level cap you will be asked to take out a subscription to continue playing. Or if you’re a cheap bastard like me you’ll just start a new character and do it over again. icon razz World of Warcraft Just Went Free to Play

In what could be considered the most modern form of prisoner torture know, prisoners in a labor camp in northeastern China have allegedly been forced to play MMORPG's like World of Warcraft in an elaborate scheme said to net prison bosses approximately $800 to $900 per day.
A former prisoner who identified himself as "Liu Dali" told the Guardian that guards forced prisoners to work 12-hour shifts on a procedure commonly referred to as "gold mining." The process essentially requires long hours of playing the game to build up credits, which are then in turn sold for real money.
Prisoners did not see any of the money they made for their bosses, he told the publication.

Old wowcrack video from heroic 5 mans world of warcraft style with good tunes, bad playing, and probably boring for non-wow players. I don't recommend for people who aren't into it or who aren't curious, it will be a waste of your time. But at least you'll like the music. Probably not worth your time though if warcrack isn't your thing.Old wowcrack video from heroic 5 mans world of warcraft style with good tunes, bad... more

Over the six years of Warcraft's influence on the MMO community, it is almost impossible to understand the amazing sense of humor Blizzard has infused into the game. Along with Warcraft's ability to laugh at itself, it also has the ability to mirror and emulate some very real life issues. We often discuss this on the MMO Show, where the topic of Warcraft's incredible capacity to capture a sense of simulated realism never seems to get old and never seems to stop fascinating myself and my MMO loving colleagues. So in honor of one of my favorite games of all time, and it's forthcoming latest iteration, I present you with a list of some real world elements that have seeped their way into an otherwise totally fictional game.
