Mondays are typically slow nights for the world of Azeroth; a few guilds are finishing up raids, a few pugs try and form up before the raids reset the following day. Yeah, Mondays are predictable; or rather, they were.
Earlier tonight I tried logging on to WoW in hopes of finding a couple of pugs and getting a few more badges for some BoA gear, only to see the downloader pop up. A patch on a Monday night? Bad. A patch on a Monday night that doesn’t explain to me what I just downloaded? Really Bad. A patch that is seemingly causing problems for the WoW community? Worse than really bad.
Hit the link for details.

The mega online game 'World Of Warcraft' launched in China in September 2009, but less than two months later the game's operators have been told to stop collecting subscription fees and signing up new players or creating new accounts. This puts the future of the massively multiplayer online role-playing game in the region into fresh doubt!
China's gaming regulator (GAPP) has reportedly said the sister company of NetEase, the company who run WoW, has grossly violated the rules. This all comes at a time when according to Reuters, Beijing is looking to tighten controls over online gaming with worries about its content.
What's not to like about orks and witches and trees and things?
Weighing in on the current confusion the Chinese government's Ministry of Culture, which also takes an interest in gaming in the country has reportedly said GAPP's actions are "not appropriate."
So who will out in this struggle to let geeks across China sign up and play in this epic fantasy?

Speaking with MTV News, director Sam Raimi dropped some interesting info regarding his upcoming "WarCraft" movie, saying that the screenwriting process has just begun:
"We want to be really faithful to the game...to the Horde and the Alliance and the mythology that takes place in the game, and the archetypes that the game presents. I think we would try and find touchstones within the game to make it accurate and true and choose one or some of the lands that are portrayed in the game with as much accuracy and authenticity as possible."
"But we would have our writer, Robert Rodat, really craft an original story within that world that feels like a 'World of WarCraft' adventure. Only obviously it's very different 'cause it's expanded and translated into the world of a motion picture."Speaking with MTV News, director Sam Raimi dropped some interesting info regarding his... more

The first netbook to hit US shores with Nvidia's Ion LE is the HP Mini 311. It's getting a lot of buzz and we gave it an editor's choice in our full review. The main thing everyone is curious to know is whether it can play games like World of Warcraft or Spore. Plus, the ability to output 1080p HD video via HDMI is pretty sweet.
After running our usual benchmarks we played WOW and Spore on the 311 and they run pretty well. Check out the video evidence: http://blog.laptopmag.com/video-hp-mini-311-proves-its-mettle-with-games-and-hd-contentThe first netbook to hit US shores with Nvidia's Ion LE is the HP Mini 311. The night before a weekly maintenance is a special time for World of Warcraft players. In between the complaining about not getting to play for 8 hours there’s always the rampant speculation that “The Patch is Going Live Tomorrow.” Well, more often than not, the Patch does not go live, but that wasn’t the case this morning as WoW players were treated to extended downtime and a download. Yep that’s right folks.
The Bit… er Brood Mother is Back!
If you’re unfamiliar with the O.G. Onyxia fight might I suggest that you take a look at this video. Some colorful and adult language is involved but as long as you cast MORE DOTS you should be fine.

Look, nobody's saying Linux is perfect for every consumer (or even most), but Microsoft's "training material" for Best Buy employees casts the open source operating system in a bit of a bad light -- and isn't exactly accurate. A few of the humorous tidbits in the Linux comparison guide include mentioning World of Warcraft as incompatible with Linux (despite great support for it under WINE), calling Linux's safety reputation a "myth," and describing Linux updates and upgrades as difficult and time consuming.
The availability of Windows Live Essentials as a "free download" is also quite laughable -- Linux has endless free alternatives to Microsoft's Live Essentials, and many of them are better than what Microsoft offers. Not to say there hasn't been the odd consumer that was burned by purchasing a Linux-running netbook, but we'd say there are enough tangible benefits to Windows for Microsoft to avoid misinformation when talking down the open source competition.

I’m really looking forward to playing through the new WoW expansion : Cataclysm. From the look of the videos here, its going to create a whole new Azeroth to play through.
For people like me that love the WoW world, but just can’t face levelling another toon through all the same ol’ content, this could effectively be a brand new World of Warcraft! It might not be a WoW 2, but it is looking more and more like WoW 1.5, which should be pretty awesome!I’m really looking forward to playing through the new WoW expansion : Cataclysm.... more

In this day and age — where print’s allegedly on the verge of casting off its mortal coil — the announcement of a new magazine is a bit of an oddity.
