Yesterday around 3 PM PST we were talking about Snooki in Places She Shouldn't Be. It had broken out across several tumblrs, we weren't sure if it was going to replicate itself virally. By day 2 it's clear that the Snooki photoshop is a meme.
Several tumblr pages have been set up to deal with the massive overflow Snooki photoshops. SnookieShop and the similarly titled FuckYeahSnookiShop are reblogging the meme.
These are some more examples of this meme, which still seems to be growing rapidly.

I suspect the meme will grow at a steady rate through the weekend and into early next week. By next Friday, I suspect nobody will remember this meme.Yesterday around 3 PM PST we were talking about Snooki in Places She Shouldn't... more

I never understood why people love watching television. When someone would tell me about the previous night's Law & Order, I'd wonder why they wasted so much time with television. Wouldn't they rather do something creative instead?
In college that thought became "why would you waste your time in front of a television, when you could waste your time in front of a beer bong, getting wasted."
My mind has been inundated with 75 years of academic scholarship, which attempted to convince me that popular culture's only purpose is to hegemonize the proletariat. It was easy for me to believe, because I'd never been a TV fan.
This changed when I was cold lampin' around my parent's house. I'd just returned from a trip to South America, when a friend came over with LOST season 1 DVDs. I was skeptical. I told him I had better things to do. He knew that I didn't. He turned on the DVD. I watched 25 hours in three days.
LOST had won me over.
By the time 815's survivors from the front of the plane met the survivors from the back, I'd moved back to my old college town. I didn't have a TV, but a friend gave me his key so I could watch episodes while he was at class. I'd invite people over to have LOST parties in his living room.
Around the time the Others watched 815 crash, I was living in Mexico. I had one fear before moving to Mexico, and it was that I might not be able to watch LOST. To my luck, I was able to buy an iTunes season pass. Watching abroad, helped me keep up on gossip with friends in the United States. LOST helped cure homesickness.
I left Mexico before the season ended. I took a trip up the Pacific coast. I watched episodes in Portland and Kelowna. I screeched at the top of my lungs from a motel room in Yreka, when I realized the last episode was a flash-forward.
I watched the helicopter crash with friends in North Hollywood. By the time we met Kevin Johnson, I was living in Brooklyn.
I watched the first episode of the fifth season at my parent's house, after returning from another trip to South America. I watched episodes in San Francisco, Seattle, London, Heidelberg and Lower Manhattan. Season five ended 2 days before I signed a lease for an apartment in Los Angeles.
I've moved around a lot, the past five seasons. I guess you could say that LOST has been my constant. And now, I truly understand what it means to love watching television.
--
Now I can't get enough television. I love it all, but specifically LOST, infoMania, SuperNews!, Vanguard, and The Rotten Tomatoes Show.
My editor made me add that.I never understood why people love watching television. When someone would tell me... more

I was perusing Current.com, and came across a post on how to decipher and spot Jay-Z's Illuminati messages and Satan Worship 101. I wanted to learn so I read it. Its discussion of hidden meanings reminded me of my favorite TV show LOST.
"Did you notice all those references to polar bears?" "Why do those numbers keep showing up all over the island?" "What is the smoke monster?"
The questions can start to be answered, if you re-watch episodes and apply what you've learned from supplementary sites like Lostpedia. All the connections and foreshadowing have made this an excellent television program.
In fantasy it makes sense to search for hidden messages, because the world of fiction is entirely created by an author. It's problematic when you apply this same methodology to reality, because no one person gives reality inherent meaning.
When you listen for hidden messages, to find out whether or not Jay-Z is in the illuminati, you'll probably find them, because you are dedicated to finding inherent meaning, where underlying meaning doesn't exist.
Conspiracy theorists attach themselves to conspiracies, because they are looking for answers. They think they can find meaning on the back of the dollar bill, which is a lot easier than dealing with the fact that there might not be any inherent meaning.
Making that plunge, into an existential world, isn't as scary as they think. When we realize there is no essential meaning to anything, we are then free to create our own... and party to Jay-Z records without feeling like we're being brainwashed by the illuminati.

Hey Currentians,
It's time once again to take a look at which groups are growing quickly on Current.com. As I mentioned in a post yesterday, you can get your group featured on both the homepage of Current.com and on the groups homepage by spreading the word and attracting new members to your group!
Each day, between 3-5pm pacific, I take a look at which groups have gained the most new members in the past 24 hours. The group at the top of the pile gets featured prominently, so get out there and let people know about your groups!
Here's today's list of the top 10 fastest growing groups on Current.com in the past 24 hours:
1. Make Marijuana Matter (15 new members) -- curated by hunzedog
2. DigiDose: Love Technology (9 new members) -- curated by brownie4590
3. Indie Film (3 new members) -- curated by Pericles_Lewnes
4. H.E.M.P. (3 new members) -- curated by JackHerer

So, there you have it. hunzedog did the leg work and took the top spot today. His Make Marijuana Matter group is now being featured on the homepage, and it will be added to the groups playlist as well. Looking at the overall spread of activity, this is still a pretty wide open field. A serious push on Twitter and/or Facebook could be all that you need to get your group featured. Make sure you tell people to join your group, and it helps to let them know why your group will be some awesome to be a part of on a day-to-day basis. BTW -- if you're a fan of LOST, I think I have just the group for you.
I'll update again tomorrow with a new list and a new top group, so until then, hit up your social networks and promote your groups!Hey Currentians,

Whoa! I just noticed that the Official Star Wars Blog ran a piece the other day on our animated cartoon series, SuperNews! sweet!!
Current TV’s web series SuperNews takes a funny look at trendy topics and news items, and then animates them into hilarious Web cartoons. Since Star Wars is ever-present in pop culture it makes sense that some characters show up in a few episodes.
One of the cameos they reference is Boba Fett's appearance in "Rambo vs. Terror Part 1." If you haven't seen it, take a look:
[youtube dwfcc2TI-AM]
More recently, Rush Limbaugh was featured as everyone's favorite Tattoine gangster in "Jabba the Rush." Here's what the Star Wars Blog had to say:
Conservatives kneel before the almighty Rush Limbaugh (as Jabba the Hutt) to beg forgiveness. Add bonus — Ann Coulter as Salacious Crumb!
Looks like they enjoyed Super_Josh's take on Ann. What do you think?

Seeing SuperNews! featured on the Official Star Wars Blog has inspired me to dust off my lightsaber and play Jedi for an hour or so re-watch the original trilogy. perhaps this weekend.
If you haven't checked out their blog yet, you really should. It's chock full of Star Wars references that surface across the interwebs and in other forms of media. The write-up of last week's episode of LOST, titled "Some Like it Hoth," in which Hurley tries to re-write The Empire Strikes Back was a personal fave. Check out their post, titled "The Empire Strikes LOST." Great stuff.
Here's another recent favorite, a mash-up called Star Wars as MacGyver:
[youtube C54yPPiQMfw]
From the same fan who brought us Star Wars as Dallas comes another excellent TV intro mashup. This time it’s Macgyver! Will Luke blow up the Death Star using chewing gum and a drinking straw? We may never know.
Did that spark an idea for another '80s TV show + Star Wars mash-up? Too late, the same fan just released a Star Wars as Airwolf clip. Best dig out some old footage from The A-Team.
To the folks over at The Official Star Wars Blog, thanks again! You make our geek hearts jump for joy.

Interviews are so bland these days. We never get to the heart of the matter, like a fascination with an obscure reference in a film or wondering if a blunt response can ever be given to "so, at the end of Lord of the Rings, did anyone else notice how...?"
But now it can be. Current wants your questions for some upcoming Current Takeovers.
Ask anything you want and it'll be said when the actors come in to discuss their upcoming work on Current. This time, drop any and all burning questions you have for Dominic Monaghan (FastForward, Lost, Lord of the Rings) right here in the comments. We'll stop taking questions on Wednesday, 10/8 around 2:30 PM EST.
Ditto for Adam Goldberg and Eion Bailey, stars of (untitled), right here in the comments. We'll stop taking questions on Wednesday, 10/8 around 3:30 PM EST.
Now, ask away!
(and if anyone can ask Adam if a Hebrew Hammer sequel is happening, I'll send you much love.)

The episode was titled, “Ab Aeterno” (which loosely translates into “from the eternal”) and it was Richard Alpert-centric. Who knew that an episode focusing on the ageless wonder would kinda answer so many questions? More than that, who would’ve known that a show that was nearly 80 percent in Spanish would’ve been the most intriguing of the season?
