We all thought the guitar style game died when we heard news that Activision was pulling the plug on Guitar Hero. Many of us were happy to hear the news and thought the genre that fostered the ridiculous guitar playing house parties had run it’s course and that average guys could not and would not ever be like Led zeppelin playing a colorful plastic guitar. But alas, Ubisoft a little late to the game has decided to wade into the waters of this ever so struggling game genre. The new game has been dubbed...We all thought the guitar style game died when we heard news that Activision was... more
Earlier this month, Activision finally put Guitar Hero out of its misery, whether or not it was a misery caused by Activision themselves. The guys over at The Warp Zone decided to send the franchise off with a song parody farewell, seemingly tongue-in-cheek, and reminds us all that Rock Band was the better way to go.

The video game "Guitar Hero," once believed to be helping revive rock a few years ago in the hip-hop era, will jam no longer.
Activision Blizzard Inc. announced Wednesday it will cease publishing the game this year.
"Due to continued declines in the music genre, the company will disband Activision Publishing's 'Guitar Hero' business unit and discontinue development on its 'Guitar Hero' game for 2011," the company said in a statement.
The decision was "based on the desire to focus on the greatest opportunities that the company currently has to create the world's best interactive entertainment experiences," the firm said.
The cancellation came as the Santa Monica, California-based company announced a record operating cash flow of $1.4 billion in 2010. Its revenues last year from digital channels grew more than 20 percent to $1.5 billion.
The once-popular video game was even featured in the Vince Vaughn film "Couples Retreat" in 2009.
As rock struggled against rap music, video games like "Guitar Hero" and "Rock Band" were credited with creating a new appreciation for rock 'n' roll among the millennial generation born in the '90s who didn't know much about Aerosmith, Pat Benatar and other musicians of the '70s and '80s.
At the time, Geoff Mayfield, senior analyst and director of charts for Billboard magazine, said he saw a direct cause and effect for some of the artists who licensed their songs to "Guitar Hero."
"A few weeks ago, when the game featuring Aerosmith ('Guitar Hero: Aerosmith') came out, there was more than a 40 percent increase in their catalog sales," Mayfield said in 2008.
The video games even increased interest in guitars, according to the nationwide Guitar Center chain. Bars held "Guitar Hero" nights. And schools like Roosevelt High in Los Angeles, where most teens have grown up on a steady diet of hip-hop and R&B, sponsored three-day "Guitar Hero Face-Off" in its auditorium, blaring heavy metal.
For now, the art of playing air guitar -- and "Guitar Hero" -- seems a quaint bygone.

Activision Blizzard will instead focus on Call of Duty titles, the development of a "best-in-class digital community surrounding the Call of Duty franchise" -- good luck with that -- a new Bungie IP and some new and "innovative universe with broad appeal" that will be revealed at Toy Fair later this week.

People call things FAILs, when they aren’t FAILworthy at all. I attempt to find WINness in everything. This is another edition of some FAILs that I don’t think are really FAILs.
There is no way that this is a FAIL. The composition is incredible! The magenta borders really accent the figure's thighs.
At this level of competitive gameplay, your opponents will distract you with anything they can think of. If you succumb to that alleged-WIN in the corner, you will FAIL.
These firefighters are hardworking professionals. They work long hours, to do jobs most of us couldn't. But lunch starts at noon, everyday. No exceptions!
I know you think puns are stupid, but that's when humans think of them. It's amazing that this cat can even comprehend puns, let alone write one. She calls this performance "CAT-ctus". What further brilliance can we expect from this tiny feline?
This picture points out the inadequacies of the tenure system at American universities. Facts change over time, and professors must adapt. I say hire new instructors, so we can finally find out what 4 & 3 make.
I know you don't support Canadian autonomy, but this is a joke. The owners of this laminated sheet are humorously noting the nuances of Canadian English. You should learn for yourself. One day you might want to convince a girl from Edmonton, that you're from Calgary, and you do not want to slip up.
Hey buddy don't worry, you're still safe. That's not her real mouth. She's just wearing a mask with a cartoon face on it. She's not going to infect you.

In an interview with ITN Productions' Game On programme, Gene Simmons confirmed, time and again, that he "is the voice of Guitar Hero 6".
Although it's probably no surprise that Activision are still milking this cash cow, the game is still in its financial planning stages according to the presenters of the show.

Just when we thought Guitar Hero had removed every shred of dignity from the once proud profession of "rocking out," along comes Paper Jamz to do away with all pretense. WowWee, known primarily for its creepy robotic toys, has put some of its technical chops into a new musical line of utterly flat instruments. The "paper" guitar and drum sets use capacitive sensors to pick up on touch, and there's even a fake amp built of cardboard to complete the ensemble.
Surprisingly, it all works. Each $25 guitar is packed with three different songs, and pretend rock stars can strum along in three different modes: a fail-safe mode where all you have to do is keep strumming and you'll jam out the appropriate guitar part, a rhythm mode where you have to strum at the right intervals, and a freestyle mode. The last of these is where things actually get interesting, since there's a usable fret board in so-called open E tuning, letting you select actual cords by placing a finger on its respective fret up or down the printed-on fret board. One finger does major, two fingers does minor, and three fingers does a 7th. It's an approximation, sure, but it actually could teach a kid a lot more about how to play a real guitar than Guitar Hero ever will. Prepare to hear more 12-year-olds playing "Smoke on the Water" than you ever supposed the universe was capable of containing. The modes on drums are similar, and you can pair up drums and guitar to play the same song simultaneously. The $15 amp uses a sonic transducer to vibrate its entire, cheap cardboard mass, and is actually rather loud. The "Series 1" selection of guitars and drums will be out in early July.Just when we thought Guitar Hero had removed every shred of dignity from the once... more
