America's Unbeaten Food Challenges
For many people, the word eating challenge evokes the iconic scene in the movie "The Great Outdoors,"when John Candy tackles "The Old 96er" to the chagrin of his digestive tract. More recently, the Travel Channel's "Man vs. Food" show has popularized eating challenges, which have increasingly become a strategy for restaurants across the country to make a name for themselves, draw in new customers, and simply have fun.
For those testing their fortitude through eating challenges, clearing a plate of outrageously large or spicy meals will often win them a T-shirt, their photo on the wall, and dinner on the house. There are some challenges, however, that push the limits of consumption and no individual has yet to cross the proverbial finish line.
'That Burger' Challenge
Restaurant: That Bar
Location: Danville, California
A massive, undefeated burger challenge can be found at That Bar in Danville, California. Appropriately named "That Burger," the monstrous mass of meat and cheese measures approximately 1 foot in diameter, and includes two 100 percent Angus beef patties, one of which has a hole in the middle where a grilled cheese sandwich is placed. Each patty is topped with four different cheeses - cheddar, American, pepper jack and Swiss - as well as a woven bacon patty. Finally, the burger is topped with crispy shoestring fries and doused in barbeque sauce, with an appropriately sized bun. The challenge also includes one-quarter pound each of fries and onion rings on the side. .............................
The Inferno Bowl
Restaurant: Nitally's ThaiMex Cuisine
Location: St. Petersburg, Florida
Generally, there are two things that make an eating challenge difficult: sheer size of the portion, or overwhelming heat or spice. The Inferno Bowl at Nitally's ThaiMex Cuisine has both.
The soup is served in a 48 ounce bowl and includes no less than 12 different peppers.........
The Full-o-Bull Challenge
Restaurant: Cowtown Diner
Location: Fort Worth, Texas
Not only does Cowtown Diner's Full-o-Bull Challenge boast that it serves the largest chicken fried steak in the world, it might very well be the largest eating challenge, to boot. That's not a surprising claim, given that things are always bigger in Texas. The Full-o-Bull "is Texas to the core," says Scott Jones, owner of Cowtown Diner. ................
The J&J's Kitchen Sink Challenge
Restaurant: J&J's Pizza Shack
Location: Northern Indiana (five locations)
In what is perhaps the oldest undefeated eating challenge in the country, the Kitchen Sink challenge at J&J's Pizza Shack in Indiana has confounded eaters for 27 years. The pizza is the brainchild of John Bogdan, the now-retired founder of J&J's, who created the 16-inch round deep-dish pizza, It includes sausage, pepperoni, mushrooms, green peppers, onions, green olives, black olives, ham, Canadian bacon, bacon bits, and mozzarella cheese; it weighs about 6 pounds and must be completed within one hour..........
The Hail Mary Challenge
Restaurant: Stadium Grill
Location: Columbia, Missouri
Since opening in August 2009, Stadium Grill in Columbia, Missouri has been offering the "Hail Mary Challenge," which involves finishing the "Unnecessary Roughness," a massive burger measuring an impressive 8 inches high. Restaurant manager Joe Collins says more than 150 challengers have attempted to conquer the burger, including competitive eater Randy Santel. All have failed. ...................

http://www.surpasrealiste.com/index.php/2011/11/diving-chess-competition/
Diving Chess was invented by American Chess Master Etan Ilfeld; the very first exhibition game took place between Ilfeld and former British Chess Champion William Hartston at the Thirdspace gym in Soho on August 2nd, 2011. Hartston won the match which lasted almost two hours such that each player was underwater for an entire hour.
Diving Chess is a chess variant, which is played in a swimming pool. Instead of using chess clocks, each player must submerge themselves underwater during their turn, only to resurface when they are ready to make a move. Players must make a move within 5 seconds of resurfacing.http://www.surpasrealiste.com/index.php/2011/11/diving-chess-competition/

Last Saturday evening at the Pfalzbau Theatre in Ludwigshafen am Rhein (Germany) , a truly international choreography competition no ballet went into its finals. The 6th International Choreography Competition in Ludwigshafen was hold in front a live audience and judged by seven professionals from different fields of study, but especially with majors in theater, dance and cinematography. No ballet, as the name may already suggests, is not a classical ballet choreography competition, it rather is a competition that specializes on contemporary dance. Part of the juror crew were stars like Suzanne Linke, (dancer at the Folkwang Dance Studio directed by Pina Bausch), or Reinhild Hoffman (ballet master and opera director was awarded the Critics' in 1983, is the owner of the German Federal Cross of Merit I degree, 1992), artistic director and founder of the contest director Julian Roessler and Ludwisghafen theater’s director, Hans Gunther Heyme, decided the outcome of the competition. Apart of the jurors he audience has been enabled to select its favorite at the end of the show by majority vote.
First place was taken by the German group «(How to be) almost there," choreographed by Anna Hirt, Max Lipskerov, Tim Behren and Florian Pachovski. Second «ugoku» (in motion), choreography Shumpei Nemoto from Japan, and the third place was unexpectedly awarded to Italian Fabrizio Favale «Un ricamo fatto sul nulla» (an embroidery on the bare canvas). Other competitors participating were Fang-Yu Sheng from Taiwan, Yaron Shamir from Israel, Rosana Hribar and Gregor Lustek from Slovenia, Vivan Chai - Malaysia and Taulant Shehu of Albania. All the contestants surprised the audience with incredible poise and body flexibility.
The Taiwanese artist Fang-Yu Shen showed the audience the piece “In a Frame Of Reference”, Yaron Shamir from Israel experimented with a combination of static disturbances and fitful movements, while Rosana Hribar and Gregor Lustek attracted the spectators’ interest by showing off a choreographic version of lustful sadistic sexual relationships between women and men which rendered the first part of the evening and gave the audience lots of discussion material.
Vivan Chai and her group from Malaysia presented a whole unique experience to the viewer. The atmosphere- mysterious and gloomy, just like those insect-like creepy-crawling movements the dancers performed on the big background screen and mainly on stage. These big eyes and the animal-like looks on their faces transformed this choreography competition into a mixed performance contest. The performance of the Albanian group directed by Taulant Shehu could be easily compared to Einstein’s pendulum. It gave the heavy impression that the main female dancer initiated the flowing movements of all the other dancers. Last but not least the German choreographic group fascinated with facility of movements and the display of tenderness.
The final prize was proudly awarded by the city councilor in charge of cultural affairs Ludwigshafen am Rhein, Prof. Dr. Cornelia Reiffenberg. Among professional dancers, choreographer and amateurs the Ludwigshafen International Choreographic Contest is highly valued.

AT&T proves that their merger with T-Moblie is all about ending competition, eliminating jobs, and increasing profits.
In June, thousands of ColorOfChange members spoke out against a proposed merger between AT&T and T-Mobile, arguing that the deal is likely to destroy jobs, raise the price of cellular service, and threaten net neutrality for wireless high-speed Internet.
Now, there’s one more reason to oppose the merger — and AT&T gave it to us. The company has repeatedly claimed that merging with T-Mobile is the only way it would make good business sense to cover 97% of Americans with the latest mobile broadband technology.
But according to a letter filed by AT&T, the cost of building its 4G wireless system to the entire nation is $3.8 billion — a mere one tenth the cost of the $39 billion merger! And if the merger isn’t approved, AT&T will be obligated to pay T-Mobile a $3 billion fee, more than 75% of the cost of extending 4G coverage to 97% of Americans.
This new revelation makes clear that AT&T’s major public interest rationale for merging with T-Mobile amounts to nothing more than fuzzy math. But Democratic 76 members of Congress, led by North Carolina Rep. G.K. Butterfield, have signed a letter advancing AT&T’s false rationale.
