I am a law abiding citizen. I have never been arrested, I have never even received a speeding or parking ticket. I have a family that I love. I also carry a gun.

I feel that allowing students and faculty to carry on college campuses is not only the logical thing to do but it is the humane thing to do. Forcing adults to cower in the corner of a locked classroom in a school that is being terrorized by a criminal with a gun is disgusting.

Animal rights activists say "Save the whales" and people flock to them. Greenpeace says "Save the rainforest" and individuals send them donations. Gun rights advocates say "Save the people" and the masses consider them insane.

Colleges are supposed to be the place where you can find the future leaders of our country. They are the place where you can look to find some of the brightest minds in the world. Are the minds of these future leaders so feeble that they cannot be trusted with a firearm? I hear the argument that allowing guns on campus will result in drunk frat boys shooting each other and gunfights erupting over bad grades. The fact is that these are the same people that have the mental stability and self control to carry everywhere else in their normal lives yet stepping foot on a college campus turns them into binge drinking, drug abusing psychos. If the anti's are correct, we have more to fear than shootouts on college campuses.

Before concealed carry was allowed in the United States, some lawmakers and police agencies stated "Blood will flow in the streets, there will be shootouts over parking spaces and minor traffic collisions". Since concealed carry has been fairly accepted since the early 90's we have seen that none of these assumptions were correct. They were simply emotion based arguments by people that have no trust in other humans. The fact in this matter is that concealed carry permit holders are 5 times less likely to commit any type of crime than an average citizen. These are the people that we want to be carrying firearms.

The state of Utah colleges and Colorado University already allow concealed carry on campus. Throughout 60 semesters there have been no accidents, shootings or even someone spotting a gun.

I often hear the argument that if the police show up they will not know who the bad guy is. This is another emotion based argument. Sure, we all like to believe that the swat team will show up and take the shooter down. That is not the case. In fact, the last time a police officer stopped a school shooting in progress was in 1966 when Charles Whitman sat on the observation deck of the University of Texas at Austin administrative building. Police were only able to stop Whitman after some locals and students on the campus were able to pin him down with return fire from their hunting rifles, which were kept in their vehicles.

Horrible things happen to wonderful people everyday and this life isn't to be taken for granted. You are a college student attempting to better yourself through education. The sad thing is that you may not be here 20 years from now to use that education if you cannot defend yourself against a criminal

Maybe this little write up will enlighten someone. If it helps one person understand that concealed carry permit holders are not the ones to be afraid of then it has done its job.

Denying means to exercise a right is denying the right itself.

I question how people can honestly want to deny people the means with which to protect themselves.

Personal accounts of many school shootings, such as those at Columbine or Virginia Tech, as I recall, detail how the active shooter(s) shot students hiding under tables, much like how young students were told to protect themselves in the event of a nuclear attack during the World War II era.

Hiding under a desk does not protect you from the psychopathic rage of an active shooter. The shooter may be mentally unstable, but he can still see you, and he can, and will, shoot you.

Many of the students murdered at VT were 21 years old or older, meaning that they could have legally carried a concealed weapon. Oh, wait--no they can't--it's against VT's rules to carry anything that can be used as a weapon on campus property.

I fully understand that everyone views pacifists as having the moral high ground, but then again, thousands of pacifists have been slaughtered throughout human history. It's called genocide.

The Dalai Lama, a person known for his pacifists views once said, "If someone has a gun and is trying to kill you, it would be reasonable to shoot back with your own gun." Mahatma Ghandi, another known pacifist, also said, "Among the many misdeeds of the British rule in India, history will look upon the act of depriving a whole nation of arms, as the blackest."

Law abiding citizens of the United States should be allowed to carry a concealed weapon on any and all public property, including public universities. They are paid for, in part, by my tax dollars. Why should I be penalized and have my Second Amendment rights restricted because of criminal behavior? I'm not a criminal.

If you deny a college citizen his or her Constitutional right to bear arms for the purpose of self defense, you are creating a victim for a criminal who won't care in the slightest what the rules or applicable laws are for campus property. If they did, they wouldn't be committing murder in the first place.

The truth behind gun control, and its effect on campus.

So we've heard all the same stuff from the Antis...guns are evil, a shot straight in the air will turn, go through a police car, body armor, a school and kill your 4 year old daughter.

But what about the truth...lets look at what really happens when gun bans are in effect. This might be a repost, but Im gonna put it up again anyway...

The 3 places with the highest crime in the United States are Los Angeles, New York City and Washington, D.C. The 3 places with the strictest gun control laws are Los Angeles, New York City, and Washington, D.C. This is no coincidence. It is because the law abiding citizens of said cities have no firearms, yet the criminals who do not obey the law do have them. This tips the scales in their favor. Criminals carry guns because it gives them an edge. They have control over their target if they have that extra bit of power. If the target is armed, they lose their advantage, and will often quickly abandon their attack.

You never hear about the massacre at the gun show, or the gun shop. Why? Because most everybody there is armed as well. They pull a gun on somebody, they'll be lucky to have their sights on someone before they have a couple dozen bullets in their body.

However, there are constant reports about mass shootings at places like schools and malls...why? Because people arent allowed to carry guns there.

The primary argument to not allow concealed carry on campus is that everybody who goes to college are booze hounds and generally untrustworthy. Bull. Yes, there are alcoholics who attend school. But the vast majority are kids that follow the rules and dont consume alochol on campus.

Not to mention that to be allowed to legally carry concealed, you have to take a course on gun safety and fire hundreds of rounds at the shooting range to prove you have the skills and attitude to safely carry a firearm on your person. It would stand to reason that the people who are proper enough to be considered safe to always have a gun on them would also know that alcohol and firearms do not mix.

And lets remember the most important thing. The 2nd Amendment protects all the others...
