WHY ARE THESE PETITIONS EVEN NECCESSARY?

I received this petition and call to action today from MoveOn.Org. I'd like to know why this petition is even neccessary?

Why are we having to CONVINCE our president to do the right thing? I made the call, but I told it like it is, please feel free to follow my script if you choose to. I believe that we have done enough pussyfooting around with those who are supposed to represent us in the White House.

... There are hundreds of thousands of families who are still living in the homes that have been foreclosed on, hoping and praying that some justice will be done , that right action will take place on their behalf. If you, Mr. President, give a settlement to the banks which have created this poverty economy, the banks will have a field day with an unprecedented LAND GRAB...Make no mistake, for the Millions who have already been ousted, duped into thinking there was nothing they could do to save their homes, to those who have yet to be put out in the streets if you betray them/us even further, you will see such a swell of Occupiers on the White House lawn as will be inconceivable.

Will such a cowardly and treasonous act cause a civil war? Probably... Is this what you want? Is this your goal for your country, to have your foot upon the necks of Americans? Are you too, OWNED by the banks? I would not have thought so, but if you condone the fraudulent and criminal actions of the banks and investment firms that have brought this suffering upon the American People, you will have shown yourself to be without moral conscience, without patriotic affiliation to the people you have sworn to serve and that you are without the backbone to stand up to the corruption that is the downfall of our civilization in this moment, at this time. If you betray your people, I do not know how you will possibly be able to look your wife and children in the eye. Shame is upon you for even considering this settlement.

Mr. President, Do the right thing, REFUSE any kind of settlement until a complete investigation can be carried out and criminal charges brought to bear on those whose greed and corruption have injured not only our own countries economy, but have crossed oceans and touched the lives of many other countries in the world. Become the leader you were meant to be, that you promised you would be. Stand up and act with purpose and solidarity with your people, not with big money, big banks or big corporations.

Dixie Belle

The last couple of weeks have been a sad time for me and Riga[German Shepherd].

Dixie was our best friend. We had to put her to sleep a couple of weeks ago. She was getting sicker, and she was not going to get any better. We had to send her on to the Rainbow Bridge to wait for us there. It has been a big adjustment for Riga---she was never away from Dixie more than a few minutes her entire life. And for me, I never went anywhere that Dixie and Riga didn't go too. Dixie and Riga traveled more than most people in their entire lifetimes.

This is a post about Dixie I put on a German Shepherd Dog forum about 4 years ago. It pretty much sums up Dixie. Dixie would go to meet everyone she saw-----and everyone she met was her friend.

-------------" There are some large open lots and fields next door to the motel that Dixie, Riga and I are living at right now. Adjacent is a large parking lot where truckers park their 18 wheelers and either sleep in the cab sleepers or stay in the motel. There are woods and tall weeds covering about half of that lot--and next to that across a drainage ditch that has creek running through it is a large field with tall grass and trees. There are perhaps a dozen or more homeless people who live in the woods behind the truck lot.

Every morning and once or twice during the day I take Dixie and Riga over to the empty lots to run. It is convenient, and I don't have to do a lot of cleaning up.
The homeless people are usually hanging around, and Dixie(miss social butterfly) has to go meet and get attention from everyone she sees. So I get a lot of compliments on what wonderful dogs they are, and everyone has to tell a story about how they had a GSD or knew a GSD once that was such a great dog.

This morning---it's bright, cloudless, and there is frost all over. I heeled Dixie and Riga through the motel and stopped at the office, put them on a stay outside the office while I paid for the next week. It's a usual routine---and Dixie and Riga are perfect even without commands(they know what to do). Lots of people are coming and going----and most of them pretty much ignore Dixie and Riga---a few make a wide berth around them(for no reason other than their own preconceptions).
So, I finished my business at the office, and we heeled across the parking lots to the open fields and woods. I gave them the OK GO, release, and they were both off like shots off into the woods. They were back a few minutes later, and I let them run a little.
As we were just leaving, there was some shouting and a guy waving at me---about 75 yards off---so I waited while he hurried over. It was Jay, one of the homeless people who lives in the woods around there. He said Dixie and Riga had come to their campsite(they live in tents) to greet everyone and give them kisses and get some petting. He had come out all that way just to tell me thanks for bringing them over---they all loved starting the day with a warm GSD greeting and attention.

I thought to myself that on a GSD scale, you are a much better person if you live in a tent in the woods and give them attention and affection than if you drive an Escalade and have Gucci luggage and ignore them."------------------

My Dad used to say, "Try to live your life so that when you have to go, everyone is sorry to see you leave."

By that definition---Dixie led one of the most successful lives ever.

Foreclosure firm mocks victims with Halloween get-up

A homeless-themed party might sound like a good idea for a Halloween celebration. But what if it’s celebrated at a foreclosure law firm that handles mortgage issues for all the major banks and whose business actually leaves people homeless?
Unlike many costume Halloween parties, the black-humor masquerade has sparked overwhelming anger. Employees of Steven J. Baum, which represents lenders including Bank of America, Citigroup, JPMorgan Chase and Wells Fargo, are being blamed for mocking the homeowners their law firm targets with foreclosure.
Photos from their annual Halloween Party were released by New York Times columnist Joe Nocera. He got photos from a former employee of the foreclosure law firm, who asked to remain anonymous because she “feared retaliation.”
“In an email, she said that she wanted me to see them because they showed an appalling lack of compassion toward the homeowners — invariably poor and down on their luck — that the Baum firm had brought foreclosure proceedings against,” Nocera wrote in his October 28 column.

In one picture, two Baum employees are dressed like homeless people, with fake dirt on their faces. One of them holds a bottle in a paper bag, and the other holds a sign around her neck that reads: “3rd party squatter. I lost my home and I was never served.”

Nocera explains that his source said that “I was never served” is meant to mock “the typical excuse” of the homeowner trying to evade foreclosure proceedings, he writes.
The other woman in the photo holds a bottle of liquor in a paper bag and pushes a shopping cart with a sign reading "will work for food."
There was also another photo showing a coffin with a picture of a woman whose eyes have been cut out. A sign on the coffin reads: “Rest in Peace. Crazy Susie.” Nocera explains that this is a reference to Susan Chana Lask, a lawyer who “had filed a class-action suit against Steven J. Baum and had posted a YouTube video denouncing the firm’s foreclosure practices.”

According to Nocera, the firm is already under investigation by New York’s attorney general, and it recently agreed to pay $2 million to resolve an investigation by the Department of Justice into whether it had "filed misleading pleadings, affidavits and mortgage assignments in the state and federal courts of New York."
In a statement released by Steven J. Baum, the company stated that Nocera’s column was “another attempt by The New York Times to attack our firm and our work.”

"Hey, chief!" he said. I was on my way into Bristol Farms to get coffee. "How are you today?" I said I was fine and asked how he was. "I could use fifty cents," he said, "or hell, I'd be happy to get a dollar." I couldn't resist giving him a buck. The demand wasn't strenuous.

I pulled out one dollar and wondered if I should be giving him more. He thanked me, I walked away. Suddenly, "Hey you!" he shouted. I turned, a little concerned why he was shouting at me. Did he want another dollar? Dear Jesus, let this guy leave me alone. "Hey, thank you so much, brother," he called. He stared into my eyes. He was thankful.

The most unworthy Americans: they NYPD's continued brutality

I went inside, bought my coffee, browsed the fresh fruits and vegetables section, and then left. He was standing outside. Shit, I thought, here we go again. I looked him in the eyes, expecting him to ask for more. He stared at me too, and we didn't say anything for one awkward moment. A couple other people walked by, but I was hardly paying attention. I was nervous about what he was going to say, or not say.

The old homeless hippie reached out a fist, and we bumped knuckles. His eyes intensely watched me. "Thank you," he said again, "I love you, brother." And that was all. I walked away feeling like I should have bought him coffee, even a meal, whatever he needed. Fuck it that I'm just a student and taking on a lot of debt. I've never seen anyone so sincerely grateful for one dollar. I had clean clothes, a backpack, a car. He didn't seem to have much more than the dirty clothes he was wearing.

And that's the issue. I keep giving out my student loan money to the homeless and destitute wandering the streets of Los Angeles. I suspect a lot of people with very little give to those with even less. We know how easily we could be them, how easily we could be out of work, out of our apartments, and on the streets. I don't need a wild imagination to picture myself in serious financial difficulty. It's not like there are any new jobs being created.
