Obama has said he’ll move ‘’swiftly and boldly” to revive the US economy - setting a goal of 2.5 million new jobs in two years.
In his most detailed analysis of the economic challenges ahead since winning the Presidential election, Mr Obama said he also aimed to stop a spiral of falling prices.
The President elect is expected to choose Timothy Geithner, president of the New York Federal Reserve Bank, as his Treasury Secretary.

Former president Bill Clinton has agreed to several concessions requested by President-elect Barack Obama’s transition lawyers that could pave the way for Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton (D-N.Y.) to become the next secretary of state, including making public all donors to his foundation and clearing all of his future speeches and charitable activities with Obama administration officials, according to a Democratic source with direct knowledge of the negotiations.
But there continued to be some dispute about whether the job had been formally offered to Hillary Clinton. Although Obama did not formally offer her the position, aides to the president-elect said Wednesday, they said that it would be difficult for Clinton to now walk away from the secretary of state post. The aides said Obama’s staff has gone down the path of thoroughly vetting her and her husband with the understanding that, if he should make an official job offer, she would accept it. Another candidate for the post, New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, emerged from his meeting with Obama last Friday under the impression that the job had not been filled, people familiar with that meeting said.
Clinton is mulling whether to take the post with her husband and close advisers, the source said, noting that becoming the nation’s top diplomat would be a major and career-changing decision for the former first lady. Obama aides and allies are preparing a major expansion of the White House communications operation, enabling them to reach out directly to the supporters they have collected over 21 months without having to go through the mainstream media.
Just as John F. Kennedy mastered television as a medium for taking his message to the public, Obama is poised to transform the art of political communication once again, said Joe Trippi, a Democratic strategist who first helped integrate the Internet into campaigning four years ago.
“He’s going to be the first president to be connected in this way, directly, with millions of Americans,” Trippi said.
The nucleus of that effort is an e-mail database of more than 10 million supporters. The list is considered so valuable that the Obama camp briefly offered it as collateral during a cash-flow crunch late in the campaign, though it wound up never needing the loan, senior aides said. The pastor of St. Mary Catholic Church in Greenville, SC, is urging parishioners who voted for Barack Obama not to present themselves for Communion unless they go to confession first because they have cooperated with “intrinsic evil” by voting for a candidate who supports abortion rights over a candidate who does not. The Rev. Jay Scott Newman told the Greenville News that he doesn’t intend to deny anyone Communion, but made it clear that his view is that Obama voters should not present themselves without seeking penance first “lest they eat and drink their own condemnation.”
Newman is the only priest in the U.S. known to have taken this position — the Catholic bishops met this week in Baltimore and this idea was not even discussed, at least in public session. At least one of the more disconcerting leaks about Governor Sarah Palin turned out to be true.
Palin, the Republican vice-presidential nominee, arrived in Phoenix, Arizona, on election night hoping to deliver her own concession speech. “It was a great speech,” Palin told Matt Lauer on the “Today” show on Tuesday.
Aides to her running mate, Senator John McCain, told her it was not customary for the No. 2 to speak, she said. "But, you know, I thought, even if it was unprecedented, so what, you know?" Palin told Lauer. "Geez, let's do something a little bit out of the box there."
And now she is. Unleashed and not humbled, Palin is on a speed date with history, upending protocol as she goes. She put herself on full display, in interviews with NBC and Fox News before McCain had a chance to take a no-victory lap on "The Tonight Show." And she has many more appearances scheduled throughout the week, including a star turn at the Republican Governors Association meeting in Miami on Thursday.
Palin could be turning to television to restore her tarnished image, jump-start a 2012 presidential bid, or both. This is EXACTLY the kind of things that after I read it, gives me a shiver! What scares me is that they live among us, thinking these scary, crazy thoughts. I guess we should be thankful when they expose themselves with their senseless blather on forums.
I did not vote for Barack Obama, but I respect him, and will support his efforts to fix this country.

In the days following the 2008 election, most Americans say the presidential campaign was the most exciting they experienced in their lifetime. Now that it’s over, the election certainly was entertaining - especially if you like underdogs, unpredictability and unconventional story lines.
Republicans, however, are pained to agree.
The GOP presidential campaign of 2008 will be analyzed for years to come. But not in the way that some Republicans had hoped for when they chose an experienced maverick, loved by the media, to face off against an inexperienced African-American who had trouble vanquishing his opponent in the primaries.
History is filled with examples of campaigns marked by bad decisions and poor performances that undermined their chances of victory.
But the McCain team ran a campaign that many say ranks on the bottom of this list. Pundits have called it an aimless and chaotic operation made worse by poor choices at key moments. Their first mistake was picking Gov. Sarah Palin.
Palin initially baffled the national media, as no one had heard of the former Wasilla mayor and one-term Alaska governor. When her teenage daughter’s pregnancy and Troopergate surfaced, the New York Times questioned whether she had even been properly vetted by McCain.
Palin answered her critics with a dazzling and electrifying speech at the Republican National Convention, and until mid-September, she appeared to be giving the McCain/Palin ticket a huge lift in the polls.
But quickly, her credibility quickly started to deteriorate. After terrible interviews on ABC News with Charles Gibson and CBS News with Katie Couric, the mainstream media started to portray her as a ditzy beauty queen who did not belong in the chair of the vice president. Tina Fey’s hilarious mockery of her on Saturday Night Live became a national sensation.
She appeared to regain a bit of her standing after a respectable showing against Joe Biden in their Vice Presidential debate, but Palin never fully recovered in the polls. The majority of Americans continued to view her as unqualified and unfit for the second highest post in the country.
The conservative Fox News even appears to have gone against her, releasing inside information about what is sure to prove just the beginning of the full story of Palin’s vice-presidential nomination. With news leaked from the McCain team, Fox News said when McCain’s people started prepping Palin for the national stage, they discovered that the Alaska governor couldn’t name the signatories to NAFTA (The US, Canada, and Mexico), nor did she realize that Africa was a continent rather than a country, and thought South Africa was the southern part of that country.
Even a majority of women, the constituency she was supposed to appeal to most, turned against her. On Oct. 2, 2008, Time published a popular article entitled, “Why Some Women Hate Sarah Palin.”
The article stated that Obama was winning the female vote overall and that many women, particularly urban career women, thought Palin was just on the ticket for her looks and that her views on issues like abortion would make her election a step backward for women’s rights.
Talking about looks, Newsweek learned that Palin’s shopping spree at high-end department stores was more extensive than previously reported. While publicly supporting Palin, McCain’s top advisers privately fumed at what they regarded as her “outrageous profligacy.”
One senior aide said that Palin had been told to buy three suits for the convention and hire a stylist.
