The headline on this video says that Senator Fred Thompson looked "Shaky," during his first GOP debate, but I thought he looked silly. His tie was too tight and his head looked too big and his answers seemed contrived and weird. Who knows maybe this type of swaggering from the actor will appeal to the Republican base, but if Thompson wants to compete maybe he should stick with pithy ironic YouTube videos to conduct his campaign. The headline on this video says that Senator Fred Thompson looked "Shaky,"... more

It happens to be Obama, but that's not what matters. What matters is that there should be an ongoing discussion about what sense nuclear proliferation makes. When there are already more atomic bombs than we would need to destroy the entire planet, does it really make sense to constantly give in to this nationalistic machismo whereby states feel they need to stock up in order to play an international role and 'defend' (preemptive?) themselves. All I'm saying is, there's also the other option, at least theoretically... that of eliminating them. Discuss. It happens to be Obama, but that's not what matters. What matters is that there... more

We all remember Hillary getting burned the last time she played this game, after she wrote a health plan when hubby Bill was president (the mess triggered her transition from vocal partner to her husband to the muted more traditional first lady look and feel - it was weird). This time around, she's keeping it simple, leaving more options on the table and using the individual mandate principle (similar to how state's require driver's licenses or car insurance) that's widely politically accepted.
Sounds fine, although in truth - that plan she wrote during Bill's days was actually a really good one, if politically unfeasible. Here's to hoping the new plan offers many (all?!) of the benefits of her original, but in a manner that the politicians will actually go for.
And...don't you love how the WSJ uses illustrations instead of pictures?! I do!We all remember Hillary getting burned the last time she played this game, after she... more

"If you don't represent real change, you just gave away the 2008 election," said former House Speaker Newt Gingrich, who led the Republican takeover of the House of Representatives in 1994 and now is flirting with a White House run. This is fantastic. The world -- and especially American politics -- needs this! A place to fact-check political speeches in terms of truth and accuracy. I think this is a huge key to the future of politics and sifting through the political [strikethrough]bullshit[/strikethrough] rhetoric, and I'm happy to see that it exists. I'm not sure how I feel about it being in the hands of a privately held company, even such a fantastic organization as the St Petersburg Times, as opposed to an open source model for the masses. Probably more accurate and better researched, but also more open to corruption and (hidden?) corporate agendas. Also, I'm curious / skeptical of the behind the scenes process to pick which claims to examine.More transparency please!! Love it though...(via http://snarkmarket.com/blog/snarkives/journalism/a_database_of_facts/)
