Looking at the works of Spanish street artist, Sr. X often seen provocative messages masked as vintage advertisements. Sr. X draws inspiration from pop culture, movies and urban legends and creates stencil artwork that are becoming more prevalent within Spains urban landscape.
Sr. X creates his own identity with his amazing stencil/ spray paint work and collaging. There’s less of a concern about exactitude of the stencils (which, by the way, there is) and more concern about the art, with a welcomed cheeky tone on and off the streets. Off the streets, Sr. X indulges in a more painterly style that helps to drive the messages often brandished ironically. Either way, there’s an overall feel of a piece by Sr. X besides all of the aloof jesting. http://www.makeahistory.com/index.php/section-table/42958-sr-x-street-art-monty-pythonLooking at the works of Spanish street artist, Sr. X often seen provocative messages... more

Aside from its rain and coffee, Seattle, Washington is known for many things subversive, from Grunge music to the activist driven WTO riots. This region of America raised the likes of Jimi Hendrix and Bruce Lee. Today, there is a culture here that is only represented anonymously in the reclaimed public spaces of the city. Images dot the urban landscape in the typical street mediums that are used across the globe; spray paint, stickers, paste-ups, stencils, wheatpasting, posters, video projection, art intervention, guerrilla art, flash mobbing, installations, post-graffiti, mosaic tiling, murals, wood-blocking, LED art, reverse-graffiti and yard bombing.
You will see that these are not commercial enterprises or vandalism graffiti, but individual creative statements... something we can all relate to. Street art as a medium has been popularized internationally by the likes of Shepard Fairey, Banksy, D*Face, Paul Insect, Swoon, Twist, Neck face, Faile, Space Invader and WK Interact. It can take on many purposes and sometimes involves activism, phenomenology, repetition, attention capture, culture jamming, direct action, guerrilla messaging, propaganda, subvertising, decoration and territory claiming.
The following is a small window into this temporary world that's constantly being revised in a flux of new symbols. It's a snapshot of work on the Seattle streets over about a 3 year period, a visual capsule in time, not a comprehensive representation of Seattle street art and the people involved over the years. Some of the work only existed for a day before it was written over by other artists or removed by the city... a reminder that nothing is permanent, and control is an illusion in the chaos of a city. Enjoy.

Citing a lack of evidence, a Boston Municipal Court clerk-magistrate yesterday rejected some of the vandalism charges Boston police are trying to bring against celebrated graffiti artist Frank Shepard Fairey, Fairey's lawyer said.
The clerk-magistrate said that seven of the 17 charges police wanted to bring against the Los Angeles-based artist should not go forward in criminal court because there is not enough proof he committed the acts of vandalism, said Fairey's lawyer, Jeffrey Wiesner.
"The evidence has to be virtually nil for a clerk to do that," said Wiesner, who is based in Boston.
But Fairey, 39, who gained acclaim for his "Hope" poster of Barack Obama, has not seen the last of Boston law enforcement officials. He still faces 17 other counts of vandalism.
Today, he is to return to Boston Municipal Court to face the 10 other charges of vandalism.
Wiesner said in court that Boston police are needlessly going after Fairey because stickers bearing his images have been posted on stop signs and guardrails throughout the city. Those stickers have been mass-produced, are sold on Amazon.com, and could have been posted by anyone, the lawyer said. The Institute of Contemporary Art, which is exhibiting Fairey's work, has distributed some of the stickers for free, Wiesner said.
But prosecutors said that one of the charges stems from the Jan. 24 discovery of a 6-by-8 foot mural painted on a condominium on Massachusetts Avenue that took "time and knowledge."
After the hearing, Fairey did not comment on the charges, but smiled wanly and offered this: "This is a fun process, I'll say that."
About a dozen residents from Mission Hill and the Back Bay, neighborhoods plagued by graffiti, were in court yesterday to witness the proceedings.
"We want the judge to know the community is here and wants something to happen, wants for this to be taken seriously," said Kathleen Alexander, cochairwoman of the Graffiti NABBers for the Neighborhood Association of the Back Bay.Citing a lack of evidence, a Boston Municipal Court clerk-magistrate yesterday... more

Shepard Fairey, the artist who created the iconic Barak Obama campaign artwork that's now at the US National Portrait Gallery was arrested in Boston for two outstanding warrants (for tagging property in Boston locations with graffiti). He was on his way to DJ at an event kicking off his retrospective exhibition at the Institute of Contemporary Art in Boston.
"one of the displays in Fairey's exhibit includes a typed letter from Obama that read: "I am privileged to be a part of your art work and proud to have your support."
"Fairey was recently seen with (Boston) Mayor Thomas M. Menino in an event to promote his show, and banners raised at City Hall also announce the exhibit."

This week I have heard that real estate prices are going up in neighborhoods with Banksy murals. And now a bunch of City Council folk have made the decision to paint over Banksy's biggest. Remember these people are Not Judges, and Not Voters... So this is lame.
In 2006, Bristol city council allowed residents to vote on whether to paint over one of Banksy's works. Results were 97 per cent in favour of keeping the mural. This week I have heard that real estate prices are going up in neighborhoods with... more
