Weed is not America's Problem!

We live in a country where it's okay to buy and consume alcohol...which in my personal opinion has caused more problems than any other drug. Marijuana has always been considered the gateway drug but I believe that's a lie that the government has led us to believe; to reinforce the whole idea of what is considered to be a drug. I think that alcohol is the gateway drug. (I know I tried alcohol before I tried weed, and my parents smoked weed all my life and it was always around if I wanted to sneak a pinch!)

I don't think there's anything wrong with the decriminalization or even legalization of marijuana. I think that marijuana has many unknown medicinal advantages that have yet to be proven by science. (Not to mention, the one's that have been proven.) I think if you were to ask any political leader that is against the decriminalization or legalization of marijuana if they would ever be for a bill that pushed for stricter alcohol laws, they would totally disagree. They would think you had lost your mind! (I'm sure half of all of our political leaders are alcoholics anyway!)

I also think it's sad that we have millions of people in our jails and prison systems because of marijuana. There are many more crimes out there that need our attention. We shouldn't waste the tax payer’s dollars on something like weed when obviously there are much more dangerous drugs and more dangerous criminals that we should be trying to tackle. Not to mention all of these “above the influence” ads that is directed towards marijuana use rather than alcohol consumption of teens.

There are far more advantages to decriminalizing or legalizing marijuana, if all of these people could just open their minds and realize that weed isn’t “the bad product of society” that they have believed all this time. So many things could benefit from the money that would be made off of taxing weed. Not to mention the quality of people’s lives. I personally feel like it takes a cold-hearted person to look into the eyes of a dying cancer patient and tell them that they cannot smoke marijuana to relieve their pain. It is an herb; it’s not made in laboratories or from items under your kitchen sink. We have been fooled for too long- it’s time to realize that after all of these years of marijuana use, our societies problem isn’t marijuana and we are throwing away money to fight some drug war that isn’t going away. As long as we have 14.5 million marijuana smoker’s in America, and as long as it remains illegal… then we are going to continuously have this influx of violence and overcrowding in our prison systems, billions of tax-payer dollars are going to continue to be spent on this war on drugs, and at the end of the day people who choose to smoke marijuana are going to do so regardless of any legal repercussions.

I support any endeavor towards the legalization and decriminalization of marijuana.
