"Everyone is in denial about something; just try denying it and watch friends make a list. For Freud, denial was a defense against external realities that threaten the ego, and many psychologists today would argue that it can be a protective defense in the face of unbearable news, like a cancer diagnosis."
Or:
Denial Makes the World Go Round
No it doesn't, what climate crisis, what war, what's wrong with the WTO, why equality, why no nukes, Etc.
Yeah, I guess without denial, we'd be screwed, or at least realize that we are. "Everyone is in denial about something; just try denying it and watch friends... more

Al Gore made his first trip back to the White House since the Clinton administration for a ceremony in the Oval Office honoring the American Nobel laureates.
WASHINGTON (AP) -- Talk about an inconvenient truth.
Al Gore finally won his place in the Oval Office on Monday -- right next to George W. Bush.
Forever linked by the closest and craziest presidential race in history, the two men were reunited by, of all things, White House tradition. Gore was among the 2007 Nobel Prize winners who were invited in for a photo and some chatter with the president; Gore got the recognition for his work on global warming.Al Gore made his first trip back to the White House since the Clinton administration... more

A great day for Australia! And one more country that will sign the Kyoto Treaty. HMM, now what are you going to do Bush? The United States is now the only country not to sign the treaty. Thank you to the Australian people who have experienced firsthand the incompetence of those whose only mission was political expediency at the expense of their own country and this planet. I wish them the best under the leadership of Kevin Rudd. This is also a great day for the world. Also, a big thank you goes out to Al Gore whose tireless campaigning for this planet in Australia helped to bring about change. Don't tell me he has no power to make global change and to influence events. Gee, I wonder, will Howard go see An Inconvenient Truth now?////////// From the link/////Labor Party wins big in Australia By ROHAN SULLIVAN, Associated Press Writer
22 minutes ago///////SYDNEY, Australia - Conservative Prime Minister John Howard suffered a humiliating defeat Saturday at the hands of the left-leaning opposition, whose leader has promised to immediately sign the Kyoto Protocol on global warming and withdraw Australia's combat troops from Iraq.///////
Labor Party head Kevin Rudd's pledges on global warming and Iraq move Australia sharply away from policies that had made Howard one of President Bush's staunchest allies.////////
Rudd has named global warming as his top priority, and his signing of the Kyoto Protocol will leave the U.S. as the only industrialized country not to have joined it.////////
Rudd said he would withdraw Australia's 550 combat troops from Iraq, leaving twice that number in mostly security roles. Howard had said all the troops will stay as long as needed.//////
Official figures from the Australian Electoral Commission showed Labor far in front after more than 70 percent of the ballots had been counted with 53 percent of the vote compared to 46.7 percent for Howard's coalition.///////
Using those figures, an Australian Broadcasting Corp. analysis showed that Labor would get at least 81 places in the 150-seat lower house of Parliament a clear majority.///////
It was an embarrassing end to the career of Howard, Australia's second-longest serving leader.///////
As little as a year ago, Howard had appeared almost unassailable. But on Saturday he was in real danger of becoming only the second sitting prime minister in 106 years of federal government to lose his own seat in Parliament.///////
A great day for Australia! And one more country that will sign the Kyoto Treaty. HMM,... more

About this Talk
With the same humor and humanity he exuded in An Inconvenient Truth, Al Gore spells out 15 ways we can address climate change, from buying a hybrid car to inventing a hotter brand name for global warming. First, though, comes a hilarious set of stories from The New Gore, who turns out to be a stand-up comedian. The former Vice President has plenty of joke material, and he's funnier than you've ever seen him. Then he gets down to grittier matters with a list of actions ordinary people can take to stem the tide of global warming. His message: Doing something is easier than you think. About this Talk

This is interesting because:
1) Imagine the draft Gore effort succeeds and his name is ont he CA primary ballot.
2) imagine he does not make a specific request to have his name removed from the ballot.
3) He wins or does very well in CA, along with NY, NJ
4) He enters the race, wins the nomination and the Presidency. This is interesting because:

This poll puts Gore in second place, only points behind Clinton, and Gore is not even running "yet". >>>> I imagine that Al Gore could go to the top of the polls because Clinton does not stand solid on issues, is a mirror of John Kerry at times by changing sides on what she says during the debates, and is a lobbyist. At least she does admit to being a lobbyist though she does not admit to any illegal lobbying. For those reasons she is not trusful. It seems apparent that she hides her true intentions by not fully answering or changing the direction of questions. She is only going to the votes and not for the issues, in fear of any damage that may be done to her campaign so no person in their right mind should support any candidate like that.
>>>>>Furthermore, I totally support Gore because he stands by his beliefs and expresses them openly. People may say he's crazy or weird or anything else, but he has a passion and that is what everyone needs. There was a time when candidates actually stood for something which was more than themselves. I am saying that Gore is on a mission for the world, not just his nation or his benefits. When he made the documentary, "An Inconvenient Truth", he did not say..."I am doing this so I can win the Nobel Peace Prize." He did it because he saw an opportunity to give humanity information about the place it lives so that we can know what is happening and what our potential affects are.
>>>>>>For the skeptics:
For those of you who may not believe the statistics on "An Inconvenient Truth", think past the validity of what was presented to you and the rest of the world. Even if we are only going through an Earth/Time cycle, the fact is that we, humanity, needs to clean up our environment. We need to be responsible for things and not just cast pollution to the side until it becomes an issue. Why not start now and make our health and the potential health of our children much better. The news reports today speak of how China's pollution is causing many health problems. The number of problems have risen 40% since 2001 (when it's industry really began to take off). America already has so many "common" health problems which are rarely seen in many/most other countries. We are undoubtedly affecting our environment, not to say that is the only culprit. At the same time the changes could also be a cycle, but the cycle does not need our help. All we are doing is compounding its affects. We need to begin finding solutions to igsisting environmental problems now. Because change happens over a long period of time, we should act now so the changes will take affect before they become worse. For these reasons I support Al Gore and fully hope he will run in the 2008 elections and ultimately become president. This poll puts Gore in second place, only points behind Clinton, and Gore is not even... more

Fuel and mining magnate backed UK challenge to An Inconvenient Truth
The school governor who challenged the screening of Al Gore's climate change documentary in secondary schools was funded by a Scottish quarrying magnate who established a controversial lobbying group to attack environmentalists' claims about global warming.
Stewart Dimmock's high-profile fight to ban the film being shown in schools was depicted as a David and Goliath battle, with the Kent school governor taking on the state by arguing that the government was 'brainwashing' pupils.
A High Court ruling last week that the Oscar-winning documentary would have to be screened with guidance notes to balance its claims was welcomed by climate-change sceptics.
The Observer has established that Dimmock's case was supported by a powerful network of business interests with close links to the fuel and mining lobbies. He was also supported by a Conservative councillor in Hampshire, Derek Tipp.
