Coors Brewing company has just launched a massive market research campaign under the guise of the BitterSweet Partnership - a group for beer loving women who want to dispel myths and breakdown barriers that are preventing women from "unleashing their love of beer."
"From education programmes about the benefits of beer through, to developing products designed specifically for their female beer drinker's taste buds, BitterSweet want create initiatives to improve the serving and drinking experience of beer for women. The research and information gained by BitterSweet will lead the way in changing how Coors brands engage with women in the future."
I'm sorry, what? Since when have there been barriers preventing women from drinking beer? I have a feeling that Coors is creating these "myths" by saying they exist and using them as a way to draw in women. Their mission taps in to all the stereotypically female things like "sharing" and "discovering" and being "real."
What do you think about this campaign? Do women really need a brewing company to help nurture their relationship with beer?Coors Brewing company has just launched a massive market research campaign under the... more

In one of the more ridiculous examples of going out to make a buck in the online world, a start-up has decided to target companies offering to tweet for them on Twitter, and build their profile and followers.
Quite how it works is beyond me, but if you look at the website http://twit4hire.com, you'll get an idea of what it's all about.

I bring a damaging profile that again, the working poor have no representation in this country; other than what's given as a handout by those who write laws to control our social welfare. As if we needed structural criticism from the likes of the consciously elite. Educated or not, many know what it's like to seek public assistance, only to jump through manical hoops just to get rent paid, put food on the table and find a decent job that pays what we're worth. This is for all of us, not associated with some Cali-cliqish media mentality that exsist for the sole purpose of exploitational entertainment. This is a threat, that we will do everything within our power to expose the truth, and relate what we see. As for those who care not for our forgotten reality, then stop lying to your children and yourself. Come to my house and swap shoes for a month and tell me how you like your ramen noodles. Your EBT card to malfunction or just short of a neccesity. Your life being on hold until the next month. This is our criticism of the American dream and how one can achieve it through attrition. The album " Digital Plantation" is due in 2009. See you then.I bring a damaging profile that again, the working poor have no representation in this... more

"LED lights aren't just a potential replacement for lighting technologies used today.
It's actually being eyed as the next-generation wireless communications technology.
Under a grant by the National Science Foundation, Boston University's College of Engineering will work on developing a wireless technology based on visible light instead of radio frequency (RF).
Called "Smart Lighting," data is transmitted through light emitted by LEDs, making each light the equivalent of a WiFi hotspot. This means the moment you flick a light on, you can access data on any device with wireless capability anytime without the use of wires...""LED lights aren't just a potential replacement for lighting technologies... more

With the growing use of WiFi and WiFi hotspots. Engineers have been working on a new way to get WiFi out there in a more fast and secure manner.
Boston University's College of Engineering is launching a program, under a National Science Foundation grant, to develop the next gen of wireless technology which uses visible light instead of radio waves.
"Imagine if your computer, iPhone, TV, radio and thermostat could all communicate with you when you walked in a room just by flipping the wall light switch and without the usual cluster of wires," said BU Engineering Professor Thomas Little. "This could be done with an LED-based communications network that also provides light - all over existing power lines with low power consumption, high reliability and no electromagnetic interference. Ultimately, the system is expected to be applicable from existing illumination devices, like swapping light bulbs for LEDs."
So does this mean the end of networking as we currently know it...

Yep, that's pretending to 'network,' but not actually wanting to.
On a recent trip to LA, Chris Ayers fell foul of LA's latest trend, 'antisocial-networking,' which he describes as "people wanting to give the illusion of staying in touch - while going to great lengths to eliminate the risk of any actual interaction taking place."
He thinks it's a 'symptom' of a 'maxed-out population' that just can't take any more tweets, pokes, messages or nudges,
I wonder if it's just because he didn't pay his bill and couldn't make or receive calls, or that he just doesn't have that many friends.

Flickr has now launched its video capability, putting it in direct battle with YouTube and Yahoo's arch rival Google.
Flickr's already massive membership base - which measures millions around the world (including me: http://www.flickr.com/photos/foraggio/collections) - can now add video to their pages as well as photos, increasing their capacity to show off their creativity.
The thing is, many Flickr uses probably already use YouTube (like me), so will they do a John Edwards and "cross over" or will they just stay dual users? W'lle just have to wait and see.Flickr has now launched its video capability, putting it in direct battle with YouTube... more
