It's common for Americans to be proud of their heritage, of where they came from, about what their past is about -- be it their family or their region of the country and the world. That pride is displayed every now and again, both consciously and subconsciously.
One of the more divisive displays of pride is the confederate battle flag. For some, it is a symbol of southern heritage. For others, it's a reminder of America at it's worst - at war with itself. Of bigotry and racism that has taken many forms and names since the American Civil war.
One Florida lawmaker is attempting to have a specialty automotive license plate offered to Florida residents. It would join 109 other specialty auto tags that are already available to Floridians (some banal - like state university mascots. Others divisive like a Pro-life plate).
is it a benign symbol of southern pride? Or flaunting a history of hate?

I gotta get a crew down south! I've been gone for a little bit though. A lot of you transplanted southerners and culturally envious yankees have the scoop on what's worth seeing in and around Nashville. If we're going to get it all, we've got to find an intersection of the music, the parties, the poverty, the politics, and the elusive notion of southern comfort and hospitality.No topic is off limits.
