Vittoria di Greenpeace: Nike e Geox si impegnano per l'Amazzonia

Doppia vittoria per la campagna 'Deforestazione zero' di Greenpeace.
La campagna è stata lanciata dopo l'inchiesta 'Amazzonia che macello!', in cui si ricostruiva la filiera dei prodotti a base di carne e di pelle provenienti da allevamenti coinvolti in fenomeni di deforestazione, lavoro schiavile e occupazione di territori indigeni in Amazzonia e che vedeva coinvolti marchi di fama mondiale come Nike, Adidas e Timberland. Grazie alla pressione degli attivisti e di tutte le persone che sostengono Greenpeace online mandando appelli a queste aziende (Geox, Timberland, Adidas, Nike, Reebok, Clarks), Nike ha messo a punto una nuova politica di approvvigionamento che obbliga i propri fornitori a certificare in maniera formale che la pelle bovina venduta a Nike non provenga dal bioma amazzonico mentre Geox si è impegnata “ad attivare strumenti contrattuali di verifica volti ad evitare in maniera assoluta di favorire – anche solo indirettamente – il fenomeno denunciato da Greenpeace”. Si è molto soddisfatti della risposta avuta dalle due multinazionali. Il problema, però, potrebbe essere aggirato poiché manca un efficace sistema di tracciabilità delle materie prime: gli allevamenti e i macelli, che si trovano in Amazzonia, spediscono le pelli bovine ad altre aziende trasformatrici fuori dalla regione prima di esportarle.
“Per questo motivo Greenpeace chiede a tutte le multinazionali, del settore di carne e pelle, di interrompere gli acquisti dall’intero bioma amazzonico fino a quando non saranno disponibili dei sistemi di tracciabilità tali da garantire che nessuno dei propri prodotti provenga dalla deforestazione dell’ultimo grande polmone del nostro Pianeta. Geox e Nike lo hanno appena fatto. Continueremo a fare pressione sugli altri grandi marchi” afferma la responsabile della campagna Foreste di Greenpeace Italia Chiara Campione.
