LONDON — The Aston Martin driven by Sean Connery in the James Bond movies is going on sale at a London auction in October.
The silver 1964 Aston Martin DB5, dubbed by car auctioneers RM Auctions as "the world's most famous car," is expected to fetch at least $5 million.
The car is one of only two original Aston Martins featured on screen with Sean Connery behind the wheel in "Goldfinger" and "Thunderball." It comes with Bond gadgets including fake machine guns, revolving number plates and smoke screen.
The model is being sold by U.S. radio broadcaster Jerry Lee, who bought it for $12,000 in 1969. It has since remained in his home and rarely been seen publicly.

Aston Martin has released the first official images of its Cygnet concept – a "luxury commuter car".
Aston claims the concept is "creative", "environmentally conscious" and "fuel efficient. It’s also billed as suitable for those who like to cut a dash while still being able to park – it’s "small, yet with presence".
While the Smart and G-Wiz are great city cars but hardly luxurious, the Cygnet is the second premium compact we’ve seen – the first being Toyota’s IQ. The IQ showed it was possible to have a tiny car with big-car chunky styling and creature comforts, as long as you were willing to pay a premium for it.
The Cygnet will take this to the next level – if it goes into production. Aston Martin claims work on the concept will continue into 2010, and that it "is hoped that it will become a production reality".Aston Martin has released the first official images of its Cygnet concept – a... more

Now that Porsche have firmly entered the family car market it seems like all the big supercar makers are having a look at family models.
Enter the Aston Martin Rapide:
"This four-door luxury sports car was unveiled officially at the 2009 Frankfurt Motor Show. The Rapide will occupy a similar market segment to the Porsche Panamera and will be gracing high streets in Wiltshire and Cheshire from early 2010, prompting kids to re-evaluate their stance on being dropped nowhere near the school gates.
We've just returned from the Aston Martin stand where, having planted bums in all four seats, we can confirm it's a pretty special automobile. Up front, it's typical Aston Martin -- power, beauty, soul and all that jazz -- with sporty, race-inspired seats that should keep occupants snug during enthusiastic B-road assaults. The back end is where things get really interesting. Each of the rear seats affords a remarkable amount of space and headroom, plus you get ISOFIX child-seat fastening points, twin 7-inch video displays, plus face-height ventilation and heating systems.
Like all the best family cars, the Rapide's rear seats fold down to create extra room for those trips to Ikea. It even comes with its own array of bespoke luggage and an optional Rapide baby seat, which matches the interior design of the car.
The Rapide uses the same 470bhp V12 engine found in the Aston Martin DB9, so it'll do 0-60mph in around 5.1 seconds and top out at 188mph. Fuel economy has yet to be confirmed for this car, but we're expecting it to be slightly worse than the 17mpg combined offered by the DB9."Now that Porsche have firmly entered the family car market it seems like all the big... more

Aston Martin is known for their gorgeously designed cars that drive to mind a multitude of pleasurable connotations. It also helps that most of the high performance cars that Aston has put out over the years can set 0-60 times faster than you can read this sentence. The One-77, in both of these categories, is certainly no exception. The One-77 has already been debuted and made appearances in Europe during the Geneva Motor Show and the Concorso d’Eleganza. The car has yet to make its debut in the US, which will take place at the Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance in August.Aston Martin is known for their gorgeously designed cars that drive to mind a... more

From Herbie to the DeLorean, the best screen cars The top ten car-actors in film and TV history!
James Bond had his personalised Aston Martin, specially equipped to cater to the needs of an international spy. Marty McFly had a DeLorean which could actually transport him through time. And where would Batman be without his Batmobile? Sometimes the hero’s mode of transport can completely steal the show on the screen, big or little.
And that’s especially the case when the car is custom designed for the film and is not available to the public. The most recent example is K.I.T.T., one of the stars of 80s hit show ‘Knight Rider’. NBC have resurrected the series which made a celebrity of the young David Hasselhof in 1982.
The renowned US magazine ‘Time’ has published their 'Top 10 Fictional Cars' list. It is not bound by whether the car actually exists, is a piece of animation or whether it’s been created by special effects teams.
There are entries from across the world, including Herbie - a German-designed Volkswagon Beetle.
The winning car may not be state of the art, but at least it has its own theme song!

For the third year running, Aston Martin took the top spot in CoolBrand's annual list of the most-iconic brands. Second was iPhone, with Apple third, Bang & Olufsen fourth and YouTube fifth. Two other luxury car marques made it into the top 20 , with Ferrari 13th and Lamborghini 20th.
CoolBrands council chairman Stephen Cheliotis said: "There's no doubt James Bond is one of the UK's most recognisable icons and the recent update has seen 007 come back cooler than ever before."
Speaking about the full list of cool brands, Mr Cheliotis went on: "On the one hand we've got established brands making the cool list because of their heritage and status. But we can also see the most modern and high-tech brands at the top of the list because they offer an avenue for escapism and fun as evidenced by YouTube or Nintendo. There is one unifying key to all of the brands - they're all brands that have consistently innovated, refused to stand still and are at the top of their game."
The top 20 coolest brands are:
1. Aston Martin
4. Bang & Olufsen
8. Agent Provocateur
10. Tate Modern
11. Dom Perignon

James Bond's Aston Martin has crashed into a lake in Italy while being driven to the set of the secret agent's latest film.
The producers of 'Quantum of Solace' say the car was being delivered to the filming unit in heavy rain on Saturday morning when it went off the road and plunged into Lake Garda in the north of the country.
The driver was said to have swum ashore and was taken to hospital with minor injuries. The damaged black car had to be fished out of the water by a crane.
The car was one of several available for shooting, which has so far seen the crew filming in England, Panama, Chile and Mexico.
