White Tigers do not exist in the wild, they are purposefully inbred in captivity to meet the demand of the paying public. The kind of severe inbreeding that is required to produce the mutation of a white coat also causes a number of other defects in these big cats.
The same gene that causes the white coat causes the optic nerve to be wired to the wrong side of the brain, thus all white tigers are cross eyed, even if their eyes look normal. They also often suffer from club feet, cleft palates, spinal deformities and defective organs.White Tigers do not exist in the wild, they are purposefully inbred in captivity to... more

Troy Tulowitzki and Carlos Gonzalez, that’s what. Both players saw their stock as baseball players rise to meteoric levels.
In 2010, Tulowitzki won his first Gold Glove award. Baseball Info Solutions gave him its Fielding Bible Award. He didn’t captivate the world just with his glove. He garnered much of his attention from his Ruthian September, in which he hit 15 home runs and had 40 RBI. Only Babe Ruth himself had a better singular month than Tulo.

After 25 years, the mystery of which Chicago Cubs game Ferris Bueller and his pals attended on his legendary day off has finally been solved.
Of course, anyone who has seen Ferris Bueller’s Day Off, the seminal 1986 teen comedy starring Matthew Broderick, knows that one of the odder, and more sport-centric, parts of the flick occurs when the gang, having decided to skip school and cruise around Chicago for the day, find themselves attending an afternoon Cubs game. (Well, of course it was a day game, since the first night game wasn’t played at Wrigley Field until 1988.) In the clip, Broderick actually catches a foul ball from his field-level seat near the left field foul pole.
Herefore, no one has been able to firmly identify which game it was that the filmmakers shot the sequence at. However, Larry Granillo, a Baseball Prospectus author who runs the fantastic Wezen-Ball blog, drilled down on the facts presented to us by Cubs announcer Harry Caray’s voiceover, scoured various reference sources, and gotten to the bottom of this long-standing enigma.* After 25 years, the mystery of which Chicago Cubs game Ferris Bueller and his... more

The Chicago Cubs baseball team is seeking Chapter 11 protection, a step that will allow its corporate parent to hand the team to new owners.
The team filed for bankruptcy in Delaware on Monday. The move was anticipated as the Tribune Co. looks to complete an $845 million sale of the team, Wrigley Field and related properties to the family of billionaire Joe Ricketts.
Tribune, which also owns the Chicago Tribune and the Los Angeles Times, filed for bankruptcy protection in December, but the Cubs were not included in the filing. The team’s brief stay in Chapter 11 is expected to protect the team’s new owners from potential claims from Tribune creditors.

Media conglomerate Tribune Co. announced a definitive agreement Friday to sell all but a 5 percent stake in the Chicago Cubs and Wrigley Field to the billionaire Ricketts family, capping a tortuous process that began nearly 2½ years ago.
Tribune valued the transaction at about $845 million.
“Our family is thrilled to have reached an agreement to acquire a controlling interest in the Chicago Cubs, one of the most storied franchises in sports,” said Joe Ricketts, who founded the Omaha, Neb.-based online brokerage TD Ameritrade Holding Corp. “The Cubs have the greatest fans in the world, and we count our family among them.”
Tribune had announced on Opening Day in 2007 that the marquee baseball franchise and historic ballpark would be sold at the end of that season. But the process was slowed by CEO Sam Zell’s efforts to maximize sale profits, the collapse of the credit markets and Tribune’s 2008 bankruptcy filing.
The Ricketts family, tentatively selected as the winning bidder last January, had agreed to pay about $900 million for the team, Wrigley and a 25 percent stake in Comcast SportsNet Chicago, which broadcasts many Cubs games.
But that total was renegotiated, with Tribune retaining a small stake for legal reasons.
The sale figure exceeds the record $660 million paid for the Boston Red Sox in 2002, although that deal did not include a ballpark.
The successful bid was led by Tom Ricketts, 43, a Chicago investment banker and Joe Ricketts’ son. He is a Cubs die-hard who grew up watching the team, once lived in an apartment across the street from Wrigley and first met his wife in the stands at a game there.
Major League Baseball still must approve the sale, but that is not expected to be an obstacle. The ownership change needs to be approved by three-quarters of the league’s 30 owners.Media conglomerate Tribune Co. announced a definitive agreement Friday to sell all but... more
