Obama: Americans Have Been 'A Little Bit Lazy' Over The Past Few Decades

Here's the transcript of Obama's remarks in context:

I think it’s important to remember that the United States is still the largest recipient of foreign investment in the world. And there are a lot of things that make foreign investors see the U.S. as a great opportunity -- our stability, our openness, our innovative free market culture.

But we’ve been a little bit lazy, I think, over the last couple of decades. We’ve kind of taken for granted -- well, people will want to come here and we aren’t out there hungry, selling America and trying to attract new business into America. And so one of things that my administration has done is set up something called SelectUSA that organizes all the government agencies to work with state and local governments where they’re seeking assistance from us, to go out there and make it easier for foreign investors to build a plant in the United States and put outstanding U.S. workers back to work in the United States of America.

President Barack Obama said America has "been a bit lazy" over the past few decades at attracting international business.

"But we’ve been a little bit lazy, I think, over the last couple of decades," he said at CEO summit at the APEC meeting in Hawai'i. "We’ve kind of taken for granted — well, people will want to come here and we aren’t out there hungry, selling America and trying to attract new business into America."

Google CEO Eric Schmidt, who was participating in a CEO summit at the conference, told reporters he would not use the term lazy — but said the trend Obama was pointing to is hardly new.

The White House says Obama was not criticizing the country — just isolating a problem that he intends to correct.

But Republicans are jumping on the remark — with Gail Gitcho, GOP front-runner Mitt Romney's communications director, saying it's the White House that's been lazy.

"President Obama continues to blame Americans for his own mishandling of the economy. Most recently, he has called us ‘lazy,’ and has previously said ‘we lost our ambition’ and we are ‘soft.’ The American people are not lazy, Mr. President – but this White House has been lazy and soft, unable to do anything to turn the economy around."

Boehner's "poor and lazy" comments to Rolling Stone reflect his party's beliefs.

Speaker of the House John Boehner claims that the “poor and lazy” caused the current economic crisis during an interview Matt Taibbi of Rolling Stone according to Rumorville.com. Boehner stuck to Republican Party talking points during the interview until Taibbi during a coffee break asked Boehner about today's young people. Apparently unaware he was still on record, Boehner, let Taibbi know how he really felt about poor Americans:

"Can't pay your student loan? Face it your parents were lazy and you couldn't afford college. The world needs ditch diggers and you were born into a family of them. Can't pay your mortgage? Your house was too expensive and you couldn't afford it."It's not going to happen in the US. The kids here are too fat, too lazy, to addicted to TV, fast food, cheap credit, and facebook.” I have news for you- there are plenty of jobs out there- the unemployed don't want them. Today's college student feels entitled to make at least $24 right after college. I'm not worried for this country- there are a few of them who actually want to work, take Mark Zucker(sic). You don't build a site like facebook out of thin air- it takes talent and hard work. I went to a community college and all I saw were people sitting in front of computers typing away, their eyes were fixed. Probably just facebooking away."

For the record, I was raised in the inner city and went to a community college and I did fine. Moreover, Mark Zuckerberg is not your typical American college student. Zuckerberg was a child prodigy who came from a well-to-do family and went to Harvard without the help of student loans. By the way, there are claims that Zuckerberg stole the idea and code for Facebook so he may have been a bit ethically challenged which you forgot to mention. If that’s true, he missed his calling on Wall Street – but I digress.

Lazy People Stop Us From Evolving As A Species

Alright, it's time for a rant. I want to talk about why I hate lazy people. You know the type -- the babbos who don't have an ambitious bone in their bodies but like to tell everyone otherwise. Lazy people are our civilization's procrastinators -- the people who will stop us from evolving as a species if allowed to breed.

Lazy people are like rotten apples; leave one rotten apple next to a healthy one and both will rot. Laziness is a disease, a serious one, and it has gotten worse in our society.

It used to be that people had to work very hard to get what they wanted. Back in the day, our forefathers had to chase deer for miles to get a little supper or slave for 16 hours on farms for some fat baron just to get a piece of bread. They had immigrant hustle. Now, you can sit at home, watch TV, get obese, and get money for it. What the hell happened?

I'll tell you what happened. A couple of piss-poor generations and precut carrots.

Precut carrots are the symbolic demise of our society. We can't even cut a silly, stupid, little carrot anymore, so someone had to go out and do it for us. Everything is prepackaged, preshrunk, prewrapped, precooked, pre everything because we are too lazy to do it ourselves. And don't give me this "I don't have time anymore" crap. Just because you don't know how to plan your day like a person with half a brain, doesn't mean you should live your life with lazy shortcuts.
Laziness & its effect on business
The worst part is that the laziness of lazy people affects the amount of food in my children's mouths. The disease of laziness has taken hold of corporate America, including all my legit rackets. I don't buy all this crap from fancy business magazines about productivity gains, longer work weeks, etc.

Propaganda from other lazy people has infiltrated media. Yes, I am talking to you clowns in the media who need two weeks to write a 500-word article. Get off your lazy asses, you ignorant idiots, I don't have a fancy English lit college degree and I pump these babies out in 45 minutes.

Back to this productivity crap. When I go to some of my waste-management offices to spot-check the sloths that work there, I'm dumbfounded by what I see. People are doing anything but the work they are supposed to do. Talking on the phone. Checking their worthless stocks. Having their 28th coffee of the day. Mindlessly looking into space for little green men. Playing with themselves. Etc., etc., etc. If cameras weren't around, I swear my Louisville Slugger would get a nice workout -- well, cameras and the fact I gotta keep my hands clean.
