CNN contributor Dana Loesch: Women ‘get raped’ for supporting the left

CNN contributor and blogger Dana Loesch said Monday at the Tea Party Tax Day rally in Chicago that women “get raped” for supporting liberals and progressives like the “Occupy Wall Street” movement.

“What did women receive for supporting the left?” she asked the crowd. “You’ve seen it here with your Occupy movement, haven’t you? They get raped.”

“This man on my shirt had a message that I think needs to be reiterated since it keeps happening,” Loesch said, wearing a shirt picturing the late Andrew Breitbart. “Stop raping people! Behave yourselves!”

At the Conservative Political Action Conference in February, Breitbart angrily confronted a group of “Occupy” protesters. He called them “freaks and animals,” and told them to “stop raping people.”

His tirade made reference to reports of crime and sexual assaults at some “Occupy” camps.

The various demonstrations across the country took place in public parks, and most of them offered free food and shelter. This attracted a number of people who were not strictly a part of the movement, including criminals and other troublemakers. In many cases, protesters were victims of sexual assault, not the assailants.

When asked about the “Occupy Wall Street” protests after her speech by independent YouTube reporter John Sheehan, Loesch said she was “fascinated” by the movement, but did not understand its purpose. After being questioned about crime at the “Occupy” protests, she said that all she knew was that the movement was about “vandalism and rape.”

“What are you about if not those things?” she said. “What are you here for? What are you involved in the Occupy movement for?”

Police Apathy Toward Rape in Delhi: Women "Asking For It"

Delhi has a reputation for being the "rape capital" of India, and a recent investigation shows that police are disturbingly apathetic to the problem, claiming that women who drink alcohol or dress provocatively are to blame.

My favorite thing to do on holidays abroad is to take long walks in the evenings in the new city I find myself in – most recently, that was Dubai in the United Arab Emirates. However much you love India, and I find myself missing the buzz of Delhi within a week of being abroad, there’s one thing as an urban working woman that I wish I could import into India (yes, even more than some great infrastructure) – the liberating safety one feels even when walking alone.

Unfortunately, many Indian cities – and certainly Delhi – don’t allow us that freedom. Yes, you can drive, and be safe in your cars. But it’s exceedingly rare to see a young woman walking down the street beyond 8 or 9 pm here. In fact, that Delhi is the country’s “rape capital” is a shameful tag we all live with. Our newspapers often carry scary tales of crimes against women – like the recent rape of a young woman who worked in a pub in Gurgaon, or a student gang-raped in a moving car in Noida, both popular suburbs of Delhi.

Despite the hue and cry made in the media over such incidents, little has changed. Depressingly, even less can be expected to if the investigation carried out by news organizations NDTV and Tehelka are to be believed. A joint investigation carried out by these two media brands caught nearly 30 policemen on tape, and exposed the shocking views they held on rape victims. Without exception, the 30 senior cops “caught on camera” have various takes along the old lines of “she asked for it,” “she dressed too provocatively,” “it was about money and when that didn’t work out, she cried foul” or “women who drink alcohol and stay out late at night are just asking for it.”

Police apathy towards rape victims is one of the reasons why the conviction rate for rape crimes is so low in Delhi (According to the National Crime Records Bureau, the conviction rate in rape cases in the capital is a dismal 34.6 percent, according to NDTV). That this apathy comes from such deep-seated insensitivity and gender stereotyping is a reminder that it’s unlikely we’re going to be safe anytime soon.

Rep. Speier: U.S. military ‘sweeps sexual offenses under the rug’

Rep. Jackie Speier (D-CA) delivered her fifteenth speech on the House floor condemning the pervasive problem of sexual harassment and rape in the U.S. military.

To call attention to the problem, she has been telling the stories of women who were sexually harassed and assaulted while serving in U.S military.

“This morning I’m going to tell you the story of U.S. Marine Stephanie Schroeder who was raped in a public rest room by a fellow Marine,” she said. “He shoved her down, beat her, and force her on her back. He ripped down her pants and raped her. Then he ejaculated on her thigh and spit on her.”

When she reported the incident to her commanding officer, Schroeder was laughed at and told to stop “bitching” about it.

“Instead of helping her, her commander called her a liar and restricted her from seeking medical help or any type of counseling,” Speier continued. “What’s worse is that her commander did nothing illegal. The military judicial system allows commanders complete discretion for handling cases of rape and sexual assault.”

According to a Pentagon report on sexual abuse in the military, violent sexual assaults have nearly doubled since 2006. The report found a U.S soldier committed a violent sexual assault every six hours and 40 minutes in 2011.

Speier has introduced H.R. 3435, the STOP Act, which would create a new autonomous group within the military to handle the prosecution, reporting, investigation and all other aspects of a sexual assault case. Currently, those powers are exercised solely at the discretion of the unit commander.

“Instead of continuing a system that punishes victims and sweeps sexual offenses under the rug, I dare the Department of Defense to create an impartial office to review and handle these cases with experts in prosecution and investigation,” she said.

Fox contributor: Female soldiers should 'expect' to be Raped

Fox News contributor Liz Trotta on Monday suggested women serving alongside male service members should expect to be raped and complained about the money spent on women who are “now being raped too much.”
Trotta appeared on Fox to discuss new Department of Defense rules allowing women to serve in more than 14,000 jobs that had been off-limits to female soldiers. They still cannot join infantry, armor or special forces units, however. “But we have women once more, the feminist, going, wanting to be warriors and victims at the same time,” she said.
“Defense Secretary Leon Panetta commented on a new Pentagon report on sexual abuse in the military,” Trotta added. “I think they have actually discovered there is a difference between men and women. And the sexual abuse report says that there has been, since 2006, a 64% increase in violent sexual assaults. Now, what did they expect? These people are in close contact, the whole airing of this issue has never been done by Congress, it’s strictly been a question of pressure from the feminist.”
She then noted that the budget of the Defense Department’s Sexual Assault Prevention and Response Office increased from $5 million in 2005 to more than $23 million in 2010.
“So, you have this whole bureaucracy upon bureaucracy being built up with all kinds of levels of people to support women in the military who are now being raped too much,” Trotta remarked.
“Well, many would say that they need to be protected, and there are these sexual programs, abuse programs, are necessary,” co-anchor Eric Shawn interjected, but to no avail.
“That’s funny, I thought the mission of the Army, and the Navy, and four services was to defend and protect us, not the people who were fighting the war,” Trotta responded.
