You ask yourself, just how twisted, indifferent and malevolent can some people get before the universe begins to construct an international gallows franchise everywhere there needs to be one. Each day we see unknown wannabees and the usual suspects, vying and competing to see which of them can be registered and remembered as one of the greatest assholes of our time. They’re looking for immortality in all the wrong places, while imagining its location is a suite at The Plaza, followed by a cameo appearance as an ornate urn in the remake of “The Loved One”.

Sometimes, I sit back and ask myself; where are and who are the good guys? Maybe Ron Paul is a good guy, maybe. We are damn well going to see whether he is now or not because he is in the catbird seat for where his caterwauling has led him. I guess I’d like him better if he didn’t sound like a perpetual member of the Vienna Boy’s Choir, which leads me to Dennis Kucinich, as a logical progression, I think. I begin to think the testosterone shortage is ubiquitous until I get a load of Jessie Ventura. He could be the real deal if he doesn’t turn into a TV personality to the extent he forgets what he came here for.

Alex Jones is not a good guy and neither is Noam Chomsky. I used to think that Chicago prosecutor might be good guy but apparently not. Back in the day, I thought Bill Clinton was a good guy, just to show you what a Holden Caulfield sort of callow youth I was. When he got chummy with George, (Hail Satan!), Bush Senior, I got the message. I mostly think Jimmy Carter is a good guy but everyone stops short of telling it like it is and most of you who read here and at the other fine emporiums of what’s actually going on, know what it’s all short of. I’m not obliquely referring to Kucinich here so, don’t think that. Get it? Never mind, cue Randy Newman.

Captivating: Ludwigshafen's International Choreography Competition Finals 2011

Last Saturday evening at the Pfalzbau Theatre in Ludwigshafen am Rhein (Germany) , a truly international choreography competition no ballet went into its finals. The 6th International Choreography Competition in Ludwigshafen was hold in front a live audience and judged by seven professionals from different fields of study, but especially with majors in theater, dance and cinematography. No ballet, as the name may already suggests, is not a classical ballet choreography competition, it rather is a competition that specializes on contemporary dance. Part of the juror crew were stars like Suzanne Linke, (dancer at the Folkwang Dance Studio directed by Pina Bausch), or Reinhild Hoffman (ballet master and opera director was awarded the Critics' in 1983, is the owner of the German Federal Cross of Merit I degree, 1992), artistic director and founder of the contest director Julian Roessler and Ludwisghafen theater’s director, Hans Gunther Heyme, decided the outcome of the competition. Apart of the jurors he audience has been enabled to select its favorite at the end of the show by majority vote.
First place was taken by the German group «(How to be) almost there," choreographed by Anna Hirt, Max Lipskerov, Tim Behren and Florian Pachovski. Second «ugoku» (in motion), choreography Shumpei Nemoto from Japan, and the third place was unexpectedly awarded to Italian Fabrizio Favale «Un ricamo fatto sul nulla» (an embroidery on the bare canvas). Other competitors participating were Fang-Yu Sheng from Taiwan, Yaron Shamir from Israel, Rosana Hribar and Gregor Lustek from Slovenia, Vivan Chai - Malaysia and Taulant Shehu of Albania. All the contestants surprised the audience with incredible poise and body flexibility.
The Taiwanese artist Fang-Yu Shen showed the audience the piece “In a Frame Of Reference”, Yaron Shamir from Israel experimented with a combination of static disturbances and fitful movements, while Rosana Hribar and Gregor Lustek attracted the spectators’ interest by showing off a choreographic version of lustful sadistic sexual relationships between women and men which rendered the first part of the evening and gave the audience lots of discussion material.
Vivan Chai and her group from Malaysia presented a whole unique experience to the viewer. The atmosphere- mysterious and gloomy, just like those insect-like creepy-crawling movements the dancers performed on the big background screen and mainly on stage. These big eyes and the animal-like looks on their faces transformed this choreography competition into a mixed performance contest. The performance of the Albanian group directed by Taulant Shehu could be easily compared to Einstein’s pendulum. It gave the heavy impression that the main female dancer initiated the flowing movements of all the other dancers. Last but not least the German choreographic group fascinated with facility of movements and the display of tenderness.
The final prize was proudly awarded by the city councilor in charge of cultural affairs Ludwigshafen am Rhein, Prof. Dr. Cornelia Reiffenberg. Among professional dancers, choreographer and amateurs the Ludwigshafen International Choreographic Contest is highly valued.

“Isis: All that has been, that is or shall be”

The Egyptian goddess Isis, is the one goddesses that stood the test of time for over 10,000 years. But why, we ask? We will began to unravel three mysteries that encompasses this enigmatic figure. Who was she? What does she represent to us? What was she able to teach us? There is a romance between the active principle of God and the passive principle of Nature. From the union of these two principles is produced the rational creation. Man is a composite creature. From his Father (the active principle) he inherits his Divine Spirit, the fire of aspiration–that immortal part of himself which rises triumphant from the broken clay of mortality: that part which remains after the natural organisms have disintegrated or have been regenerated. From his Mother (the passive principle) he inherits his body–that part over which the laws of Nature have control: his humanity, his mortal personality, his appetites, his feelings, and his emotions. The Egyptians also believed that Osiris was the river Nile and that Isis (his sister-wife) was the contiguous land, which, when inundated by the river, bore fruit and harvest. The murky water of the Nile were believed to account for the blackness of Osiris, who was generally symbolized as being of ebony hue.
The Divine Mother, called the Universal Mother or Cosmic Virgin, is the feminine polarity of the All which we call God. She is the “other half” of Father. Her Yin to His Yang. Yet they are One and contain no sex. However energy is masculine and feminine. God personified as the force of Nature.
Isis is the Greek form associated with the word for “throne,” of many ancient names for the goddess. Her original headdress was a representation of an empty throne chair belonging to her murdered husband Osiris. As the personification of the throne, she was an important source of the Pharaoh’s power. Originally, Isis was known as Aset, or Eset, A moon goddess, she gives birth to the sun, creates and sustains all life, and is the savior of all people.

The Was Ist Das? MarchFourth in Germany documentary film highlights the inner workings of M4 and their recent excursion to Europe in 2010. In large part, what makes the film compelling is the fact that very little media has been produced to highlight the diverse and wonderful personalities of this increasingly popular musical entity. There are copious amounts of fan-provided live clips on YouTube and other online video streaming sites. However, despite their attempt to court media opportunities not much in the way of thought provoking or intelligent discussion with band members exists to date. The Diggable Monkey is here to fill the void...

The interview outtakes from the Was ist Das? film further explore the perspectives of (6) long time band members: John Averill, Amy Hatfield, Dan Stauffer, Nayana Jennings, Sid Simpatico and Scalett Torrance. Each presents a unique view of their role and their experience with what is commonly referred to among band members as simply, "the Project". Out of costume and into a comfy seat, these kids weave a dynamic tale to satisfy among the most die hard of their fans...

As with the 29-minute documentary film, these pieces were developed for online consumption. Their sub 2-minute play duration were designed and fully intended to be consumed in a single sitting. As the editor, selecting comments from the Was Ist Das? interviews was something of a challenge. Much of what was discussed in the retrospective process was potentially useful to enhance the arc of the movie's narrative. We are pleased to release these comments in a more random and revised "short" format, so that viewers can enjoy their presentation in a more anecdotal or personal way. In a sense, we strike more at highlighting the individual rather than the band as a whole.

The eight year journey this tribe has traveled is extremely fertile storytelling soil. From our perspective, this conversational exploration has been a missed opportunity for both the band members and their fans. Our hope is that the series will in some small way help alleviate the expanding bottleneck of interest in "the Project" and recognize the stories of this incredibly unique little slice of humanity.
