Tiger is normally a preserved guy, he won’t let you know how he feels much on the golf course and is always sporting his blank, determined look. But in interviews Tiger can be asked some pretty interesting questions, some that may even get a reaction out of him. I think Tiger actually reacts quite well to this, but man, is it ever funny to see him come out of his normal composure with a few awkward questions... Tiger Woods's announcement that he will return to the PGA Tour next week after an eight-month injury absence totally overshadowed Thursday's first round at the Northern Trust Open.
Television coverage of the event at Riviera Country Club came to a virtual halt as commentators avidly discussed the news and began to speculate on the form Woods is likely to produce on his comeback.
The American world number one, sidelined since his astonishing playoff victory at last year's U.S. Open, has been recovering from reconstructive knee surgery but is now eager to rejoin the competitive fray.
Although even Woods has to be a little uncertain how his left knee will stand up to the rigors of tournament golf after a long layoff, all the signs point toward a successful comeback.Tiger Woods's announcement that he will return to the PGA Tour next week after an... more

One thing is for certain - you need balls to earn big money in sport! The world's four highest-earning sports stars all earn their substantial living from ball games.
Top of the richest pile is golf champ Tiger Woods. According to US ‘Forbes’ magazine, the currently-injured player earns an estimated €91 million per year.
Another golfer took second place, with Phil Mickelson (€49.5m) just keeping his nose ahead of footballer David Beckham (€47.5m).
Basketball legend Michael Jordon took the number four spot (€35.5m) despite the fact he is retired!
The best paid – and still active – German sports star is Dirk Nowitzki ($14.5m), who didn’t manage to make it into the top ten.
But neither did any women…

A filmmaker's dream of building a Hollywood-style studio in the northern part of South Africa has been blocked after a passionate campaign by the local Khoi-San community, tribes commonly known in the West as Bushmen.
But the filmmakers underestimated the will of the local 5,000-strong population who put the spiritual value of the land over any potential economic gain and nixed the plan last month.
"No money in the world can buy this land," says Ina Basson, secretary of the Pella Community Forum. "It is ours and has sentimental value. Our forefathers fought the Germans for this land and had to battle to keep it. They have spilled blood for the land and for us, and it is not for sale.
"[The producers] said Mel Gibson and Halle Berry would fly in to do movies, and that Tiger Woods would design the golf course," adds Ms. Basson. "We don't care about them. We want to live here."
The Rev. Cyril Smith, whose cathedral would have been made into a Mexican village film set, says the consortium miscalculated the level of opposition and the legal status of the land. "They should have consulted the residents first but they didn't, which made them very angry," he says. "The government, as trustees, aren't allowed to sell this land without their consent, so the film studios will not happen."
"Not even a handful will I sell to them," says farmer Piet Eiman, one of the area's oldest residents, holding pieces of soil in his hands. "We are part of the land, it can support you from a baby, to a young child, to a man. It is part of us."
Rudolf Markgraaff, chief executive at Charis Productions, one of the companies looking to purchase or lease the tribal land, says he was surprised at the opposition. "This area is desperately poor with 70 percent unemployment, high rates of AIDS, and limited facilities like hospitals and schools.
"We had letters of support from the [African National Congress] Youth League, the ANC Women's League, and another group begging us to make it happen," Markgraaff says. "They're not doing anything with this land."
But Mr. Markgraaff is wrong. The local population is preserving their culture, with some families practicing the traditional hunting and gathering lifestyle, and others herding cattle and goats, or farming desert crops. These ways of life would be threatened or destroyed by the presence of such large-scale commercial development.

Top-ranked Tiger Woods is very confident he will play next year's US Masters but still has no timetable for his return after left knee surgery, he told ESPN in an interview.
Woods has not taken a full swing at a golf ball since his final playoff hole at last June's US Open, where he won his 14th major title despite leg pain to move within four of matching Jack Nicklaus' all-time career record.
"Next year," Woods said when asked when he will be swinging a club again.
"Whenever my surgeons say."
Woods said he was "very confident" in playing at next April's Masters but has made no firm plans for a return, a situation complicated by his wife expecting their second child in "late winter", usually seen as mid-March.
"If I have six months off from surgery, that puts me into January, and another four months, that puts me at pretty much 10 months," he said.
"That's a long time. I figure I can come back after 10 months.
"Generally it's between six-to-nine months and (American football players) are able to come back and compete and play. And if they can do it at that level, I hope I can do it in golf."
But Woods, a four-time Masters winner, has to be cautious.
While that means handling normal actions with no pain, he has been careful not to put the stress of golf swing rotations on his body just yet.
"You have to let the ligament heal. It has to get more taut. I don't want to stretch it out. I don't want to have it go back to where it was," Woods said.
"I have to keep it taut, which means no rotation, everything in a straight plane. I feel good. I can do everything, except for rotation right now. I'm not allowed to rotate yet."Top-ranked Tiger Woods is very confident he will play next year's US Masters but... more

SAN DIEGO (AP)—Four months after his epic U.S. Open victory, Tiger Woods returned to Torrey Pines on Monday without a limp.
He didn’t have golf clubs, either.
Hopping from a cart, Woods walked up to 59-year-old John Abel, doffed his cap and extended his right hand. “Hey, I hear you’re looking for a caddie. I’m Tiger Woods—pleased to meet you.”
Out of action since beating Rocco Mediate in a 19-hole playoff for his 14th career major, Woods came back to Torrey Pines to deliver on his end of the “Tee Off with Tiger” online sweepstakes sponsored by Buick.
Showing no signs of his season-ending knee surgery a week after the U.S. Open, Woods wore a green caddie’s bib inscribed with Abel’s name as he guided him around the back nine of the South Course, where he has won six times in the Buick Invitational and once in a U.S. Open he called his best ever.
Playing with torn ligaments in his left knee and a double stress fracture in his leg, Woods made a 12-foot birdie on the final hole to force an 18-hole playoff, made a 4-foot birdie on the 18th in the playoff to stay alive and finally won with a par.
Woods checked into the Lodge at Torrey Pines on Sunday night and noticed the pin in the same spot it was during the Monday playoff.
“I opened the curtains and saw the 18th green,” Woods said. “I was like, ‘You know what? That is pretty cool.’ A different atmosphere. You can actually see. They don’t have the grandstands in the way. I saw where the pin was and was thinking, ‘You know what? I remember that putt.”’
Woods was in character from the minute he drove up to the 10th tee, on cue from a video crew that recorded every one of Abel’s shots. Reporters and photographers from two media outlets—The Associated Press and the San Diego Union-Tribune—were allowed to watch on the 10th and 18th holes.
Woods drove the cart. He handed clubs to Abel, then wiped them off with a towel and put them back in the bag. He squatted to line up putts and tended the pin. He warned how fast the greens were, then chuckled as Abel five-putted the 10th for a quadruple-bogey 8.
“It was fun,” said Woods, who once caddied for former Stanford teammate Jerry Chang. “This was totally cool. I’ve caddied before many times. For me to be out here and to be able to do it again, it’s always fun. John’s a good guy. It was a fun day for me.”
Abel, from West Berlin, N.J., said his round went better than expected.
“I wasn’t as nervous after maybe the third or fourth hole,” he said. “Nerves come into it, I don’t care who you are, and these greens are unbelievable. Tiger was telling me that they’re actually 3 feet slower than what they played for the Open.
“It was just such a hoot to play with him,” said Abel, who regularly shoots in the 90s. “He showed me things I never even thought about. Like when he walks into a sand trap, he feels with his feet. It was just so neat. it really was.”
Seriously, imagine handing your fairway wood to Tiger Woods after a shot.
