Harvest Moon

In the legend of the Harvest moon, it is said that all full moons have their own special characteristics based primarily on the whereabouts of the ecliptic in the sky at the time of year that these moons are visible. The full moons of September, October and November as seen from the northern hemisphere—which correspond to the full moons of March, April and May as seen from the southern hemisphere—are well known in the folklore of the sky.
All full moons rise around the time of sunset. However, although in general the moon rises about 50 minutes later each day, as it moves in orbit around Earth, the Harvest Moon and Hunter's Moon are special, because around the time of these full moons, the time difference between moonrise on successive evenings is shorter than usual which means that the moon rises approximately 30 minutes later, from one night to the next, as seen from about 40 degrees N. or S. latitude, for several evenings around the full Hunter's or Harvest Moons. Thus there is no long period of darkness between sunset and moonrise around the time following these full moons. In times past this feature of these autumn moons was said to help farmers working to bring in their crops (or, in the case of the Hunter's Moon, hunters tracking their prey). They could continue being productive by moonlight even after the sun had set. Hence the name Harvest Moon. The reason for the shorter-than-usual rising time between successive moonrises around the time of the Harvest and Hunter's Moon is that the ecliptic—the plane of Earth's orbit around the sun—makes a narrow angle with respect to the horizon in the evening in autumn.
The Harvest Moon is said to come before or after the autumnal equinox. It is simply the full moon closest to that equinox. About once every four years it occurs in October (in the northern hemisphere), depending on the cycles of the moon. Currently, the latest the Harvest Moon can occur is on October 13. Often, the Harvest Moon seems to be bigger or brighter or more colorful than other moons. These effects are related to the seasonal tilt of the earth. The warm color of the moon shortly after it rises is caused by light from the moon passing through a greater amount of atmospheric particles than when the moon is overhead. The atmosphere scatters the bluish component of moonlight (which is really reflected white light from the sun), but allows the reddish component of the light to travel a straighter path to one's eyes. Hence all celestial bodies look reddish when they are low in the sky.

The apparent larger size is because the brain perceives a low-hanging moon to be larger than one that's high in the sky. This is known as a Moon Illusion and it can be seen with any full moon. It can also be seen with constellations; in other words, a constellation viewed low in the sky will appear bigger than when it is high in the sky.
The Harvest Moon is also known as the Wine Moon, the Singing Moon and the Elk Call Moon. In American myth and folklore the full moon of each month is given a name. There are many variations, but the following list gives the most widely known names in the modern US:

March - Worm moon, Sap moon, Sugaring moon, Crow moon, Storm moon
April - Pink moon, Egg moon, Grass moon, Rain moon, Growing moon

July - Buck moon, Thunder moon, Deer moon, Hay moon
August - Sturgeon moon, Corn moon, Fruit moon, Barley moon
September - Harvest moon

November - Beaver moon, Frosty moon, Snow moon
December - Cold moon, Long Night moon, Winter moon

Sting appears in Twin Spirits, a celebration of Robert Schumann

It’s a bizarre sort of ensemble, a kind of genre-busting supergroup. Distributed carefully about the stage in a smallish studio theatre are stars of theatre, opera, the recital hall and, in a random invasion from left field, the stadium. The assembled include Derek Jacobi on spoken voice, Simon Keenlyside on sung voice, Natalie Clein on cello and Iain Burnside on piano. And wandering in beardedly from the rock and roll hall of fame, that’ll be none other than Sting. Plus his wife Trudi Styler.

What possible cause can this disparate gallery of superstars have to muster on the same stage somewhere in the intestinal labyrinth that is the Royal Opera House?

Here’s a clue: Sting has not brought his guitar, or indeed his lute. He and Styler are appearing as actors. They sit in well-upholstered armchairs. From his, Sting delivers the words of Robert Schumann, while around him, male musicians perform Schumann’s music. Meanwhile, Styler recites the letters of Clara Wieck, the pianistic virtuoso who became Frau Schumann, interleaved by performances from the trio of female musicians.

Twin Spirits is a celebration of the life, love and music of the Schumanns. At times romantic and tragic, it traces their early infatuation, the thwarted hope as Clara’s father refused Schumann access to his daughter, their eventual marriage, followed all too soon by the composer’s illness which killed him at the age of 48.

The title refers to their conspiratorial habit, when banned from meeting as young sweethearts, of arranging to play the same piece of piano music at the same time.
“I didn’t know much about the letters,” Sting cheerfully concedes in a break during rehearsals. “We went to the first rehearsal and started to read the story and then the music started to come to life.

“It became much less abstract. It became about their passion and their difficulties. It’s a very compelling and emotional story. Audiences who see it or hear it are as deeply affected. It’s a real tear-jerker. Clara is quite something.”

Needless to say, it’s all for charity. Sting and Styler were first embroiled in the lives of the Schumanns when asked by their Wiltshire neighbour Lady Chichester, whose brainchild Twin Spirits is. “I think she asked us because we were cheap,” Styler says.It’s a bizarre sort of ensemble, a kind of genre-busting supergroup. FBI Concludes Carding Forum Sting Operation, Site that trades stolen bank account, etc...

Earlier this week a German radio unmasked an FBI undercover operation on a popular underground forum used by cybercriminals to sell stolen banking information and equipment used for credit card fraud. The FBI confirmed the operation in a press release, outlining the results so far and their future plans.

As we previously reported the Südwestrundfunk German radio got hold of some leaked documents from the German national police, according to which the FBI had infiltrated and administered the DarkMarket underground carding forum since 2006. The same documents poined to one of the forum administrators, going by the nickname Master Splynter, as being the FBI Senior Agent J. Keith Mularski from the Cyber Initiative and Resource Fusion Unit at the National Cyber Forensics Training Alliance (NCFTA) in Pittsburgh.

The website, which the FBI claims had as much as 2,500 registered members from around the globe, was eventually shut down earlier this month. There's no clear information as to why the FBI decided to close it down, but Master Splynter posted on the board before it happened that “It is apparent that this forum … is attracting too much attention from a lot of the world services (agents of FBI, SS, and Interpol). I guess it was only time before this would happen. It is very unfortunate that we have come to this situation, because ... we have established DM as the premier English speaking forum for conducting business. Such is life. When you are on top, people try to bring you down."

The FBI does not provide any specific information regarding the identity of its infiltrated agents or how the whole thing played out, but it does confirm the existence of the undercover operation. “A primary objective of this operation was to infiltrate the forum, develop intelligence on its leading members, and in coordination with our U.S. and international law enforcement partners, systematically identify, locate, and arrest them over a sustained period,” is specified in the FBI press release.

As a result of the intel gathered from the forum, a total number of 56 arrests were made across the globe during the last two-years. The FBI also estimates that, due to the operation, a total of $70 million have been saved from being stolen, by quickly closing the compromised banking accounts that were being disclosed or sold on the forum.

The Register reports that five people were arrested this week in the U.K. in connection with the DarkMarket operation. This is confirmed by the FBI Cyber Division Assistant Director Shawn Henry. “The arrests this week in the U.K. are a good demonstration of the coordination taking place today between the FBI, the Serious Organised Crime Agency (SOCA), and other law enforcement agencies around the globe,” commented Mr. Henry.

In addition, the information gathered in this operation is likely to prompt other arrests worldwide. “Separate from these successes, this operation created new leads and more investigative information to pursue. These efforts are being followed up by the FBI and international law enforcement partners,” informs the press release.

It is notable that rumors about the FBI running the DarkMarket forum existed almost since the operation began. In 2006, soon after Master Splynter joined the DarkMaster administration board, a hacker by the name of Max Ray Butler got unauthorized access to the server's database and disclosed the IP the new admin used to log in. The IP was registered to the NCFTA in Pittsburgh, but the hacker's findings were pretty much dismissed by the forum members at that time.
