What A Wonderful World - Photos of Smokey Mountain National Park

I made these photos and others when I went to the Smokey Mountain National Park a couple of months ago. I have taken these photos and the music from Louis Armstrong singing What A Wonderful World and combined the two.

Louis Daniel Armstrong (August 4, 1901 July 6, 1971), nicknamed Satchmo or Pops, was an American jazz trumpeter and singer from New Orleans, Louisiana. Coming to prominence in the 1920s as an innovative cornet and trumpet player, Armstrong was a foundational influence on jazz, shifting the music's focus from collective improvisation to solo performers. With his distinctive gravelly voice, Armstrong was also an influential singer, demonstrating great dexterity as an improviser, bending the lyrics and melody of a song for expressive purposes. He was also greatly skilled at scat singing, or vocalizing, using syllables instead of actual lyrics. Renowned for his charismatic stage presence and deep, instantly recognizable voice almost as much as for his trumpet-playing, Armstrong's influence extended well beyond jazz, and by the end of his career in the '60s, he was widely regarded as a profound influence on popular music in general: critic Steve Leggett describes Armstrong as "perhaps the most important American musician of the 20th century." Flea once proclaimed that "Louis Armstrong was probably the greatest musician that ever lived...one note implies that if he wanted to he could play ten billion notes, but just one simple note is a beautiful thing." "What a Wonderful World" is a song written by Bob Thiele (as George Douglas) and George David Weiss. It was first recorded by Louis Armstrong and released as a single in 1968. Thiele and Weiss were both prominent in the music world (Thiele as a producer and Weiss as a composer/performer). Some have suggested that pianist Dana Pelkie collaborated on the song using "George Douglas" as a pseudonym, but this has never been confirmed. This pseudonym is also known to relate to Thiele. Armstrong's recording was inducted in the Grammy Hall of Fame in 1999. These beautiful photos were taken by photographer Rick Harmon. Currently lives in Prentice Cooper State Forest just north of Chattanooga, Tennessee. He was born in Indianapolis, Indiana, but raised in Harriman, Tennessee. Attended school in Harriman, Tn and college in Greenville, South Carolina at the Tabernacle Baptist Bible College where he received an associates degree in Theology, Psychology, and Public Speaking. Rick Harmon was married for 9 years and has two daughters Christian Hope Harmon and Tesia Ren Harmon.
