This week on infomania cable news knows its not the quality of election coverage that matters but the quantity. Al Roker is stealing jokes from 'The Girls Next Door.' Levi Johnston is all out of secrets. Sergio counts down the hottest songs in the land. And Brett scours YouTube for the best Deathcore metal screamers.

2000 Census estimate - 8,008,278 people living in NYC.
2000 Census estimate of people under 18 - 24.4% of total population
24.4% X 8,008,278 = 1,954,020 under 18 (rounded up)
8,008,278 - 1,954,020 = 6,054,258 people who are eligible to vote in NYC
6,054,258 - 1,063,776 = 4,990,482 people who did not vote... IF THIS WERE THE YEAR 2000
But it 2009. So lets try this all again with a educated guess.
2008 Census estimate - 8,363,710 people living in NYC
Considering growth lets say 25% of the total population is under 18
25% X 8,363,710 = 2,090,928 people are under 18 (rounded up)
8,363,710 - 2,090,928 = 6,272,782 total people who did not vote.
So my original math (7.2 million if you didn't see it) is off by about 1 million. Remember that these are estimates from the US Census Bureau. Close to 6.3 million people is a very very large number.
An estimated 6,272,782 people did not vote in Tuesdays election. This means around 18% of the city showed up at the polls. 82% of a city of 8.3 million people did not vote.
For a title and position as powerful as mayor, of New York City no less, shouldn't more people have voted? Does this number shock anyone? How do we get people to the polls? How do we educated people on the importance of voting?UPDATE
An estimated 8.3 million people live in New York City. And 18% of them voted... more
Supporters of same-sex marriage had reason to be optimistic on Tuesday afternoon and into the evening. In Maine, they had their best chance yet to win at the ballot box, where the state's voters looked set to defeat a referendum that would reverse a bill, passed by the legislature and signed by the governor, to legalize gay marriage. Reports of heavier-than-expected turnout and early results that showed the referendum losing turned out to be no more than false hope, however.
By the end of the night, the real result was clear: Maine had voted to repeal the marriage law and continue the state's prohibition on same-sex weddings.
There were some bits of good news out there for the LGBT community, however. One of their biggest issues may have gone down to defeat yet again, but gay and lesbian candidates had prevailed in races around the country. Chapel Hill, N.C., elected a gay man as mayor; Detroit's new city council president is gay as well. In Houston, a lesbian mayoral candidate will go into a run-off having won a plurality on Tuesday.

I don't think I have read this many casualties in a single bomb blast in Iraq. I am nervous. My good friend's husband was just deployed to Iraq a few days ago for 12 months.

Uruguayans may have the most interesting presidential race in years with the far left ex-rebel Jose Musical 74, running against former president Luis Alberto Lacalle, 69, the National Party candidate who was president in 1990-95. Lacalle who privatized government services while he was president is currently behind in polls.
Uruguayans also were voting for two other important issues. One would remove amnesty for human rights violations during Uruguay's 1973-85 dictatorship, opening up dozens of former military officials to prosecution. Another would allow Uruguayan citizens living overseas to vote by mail. Mujica favored both measures; Lacalle opposed them.

ATHENS (AP) — Greece's opposition Socialists won an early election by a landslide Sunday, initial results indicated, with voters angered by scandals and a faltering economy ousting conservative Prime Minister Costas Karamanlis.
Official results from 39.66% of votes counted showed former foreign minister George Papandreou's Panhellenic Socialist Movement, or PASOK, ahead with 43.66%, compared to 35.29% for Karamanlis' New Democracy party. If the figures remain unchanged, the result gives PASOK a comfortable majority of about 158 seats in the 300-member parliament, bringing the party back to power after five years of conservative governance.
Papandreou, 57, now follows in the footsteps of his father, party founder Andreas Papandreou, and grandfather and namesake George Papandreou, both of whom served several terms as prime ministers.
PASOK's victory, along with a recent election win by socialists in Portugal, bucks a European trend that has seen a conservative surge in the continent's powerhouse economies, including most recently in Germany, where Chancellor Angela Merkel won re-election last week.
"This is a historic victory for PASOK, which means great responsibility for us," senior party official and former minister Evangelos Venizelos said outside party headquarters, surrounded by jubilant supporters lighting flares and waving PASOK flags depicting the party's symbol of a green rising sun.ATHENS (AP) — Greece's opposition Socialists won an early election by a landslide... more
