Have female voters ever been more talked about, pitched to or chased after? Both President Obama and Mitt Romney mention the strong women in their lives every chance they get. And each claims that the other candidate is bad for us — with Democrats talking up the Republican “war on women’’ and the GOP countering that the real casualties are the women who’ve lost their jobs since Obama became president. But female voters are so diverse that there could never be one straightforward answer to what we want — so pandering to us is complicated. Thankfully, it’s no longer assumed that women tend to vote like their husbands or fathers. But some hardy myths persist. Let’s examine what really makes women tick.
The Myths:
1. Women vote together.
2. Female voters favor female candidates.
3. Women vote based on “women’s issues,” such as abortion rights and contraception.
4. A candidate’s wife can deliver women’s votes.
5. Men decide elections.
Myths debunked at the link....

Last Friday 25 May 2012 was the last day of early voting. Today Tuesday 29 May 2012 is Texas Primary Day. Unfortunately the primary comes a day after Memorial Day. So pundits believe turnout will be low.Last Friday 25 May 2012 was the last day of early voting. Today Tuesday 29 May 2012 is... more

The day, Thursday, 1 July 2011 came and went completely unnoticed by most people. It was, notwithstanding, a watershed day.
On that day it was determined that “For the first time ever, white babies account for fewer than half of newborns in the United States. New census data released today showed that on July 1 of last year, just 49.6 percent of babies 1-year-old or younger were of white European ancestry; 50.4 percent were minority.”The day, Thursday, 1 July 2011 came and went completely unnoticed by most people. The Nevada Republican Party has been in disarray for a long time, the day after the February 4th caucuses, Chairwoman Amy Tarkanian stepped down. The dates for the Nevada caucuses were changed twice. The first date change was due to Florida changing its date, the second date change was the result of pressure from the RNC.
The new Chairman of the Nevada Republican Central Committee is Michael McDonald, who was a key player in Nevada’s largest political scandal which saw 17 people pleading guilty to various crimes centering around the mob, politicians and strip clubs. The FBI operation was dubbed “The G-Sting”.

Democrats haven’t won or held statewide office in Texas since 1994. That’s almost a generation. Not that it makes that big a difference on the main. It’s often difficult to tell the difference between the parties in this state or the nation for that matter. Perhaps that is because there is so little difference. After all, what we have are two right of center political parties.Democrats haven’t won or held statewide office in Texas since 1994. That’s... more

This is the question puzzling Paul’s friends, as well as his enemies. A recent announcement by the campaign that the anti-interventionist Congressman and presidential candidate is not spending money in the remaining primary states provoked a Drudge headline: "Paul Out." That is the GOP Establishment’s fondest wish, but the reality is that Paul is far from "out": his campaign is merely recalibrating its tactics, concentrating on getting delegates through the complicated and often arcane process of party caucuses and state conventions. In short, Paul is pursuing the very same strategy he’s been talking about since Day One of his remarkably successful campaign: harnessing the enthusiasm and discipline of his supporters to enter a basically hostile entity – the pro-war, pro-Big Government Republican party – and challenging the Powers That Be.
There has been all kinds of loose talk about a "deal" being struck with the Romneyites, an impression pushed by the "mainstream" media and other clueless individuals who know little or nothing of Ron and imagine he’s just another politician. They are wrong. There will be no endorsement of Mitt Romney, and, because of that, no quarter will be given – or is being given – to Paulians intent on embedding themselves within the Grand Old Party.
The "go local" strategy of the Paul camp has recently met with a string of high profile successes: they took over the party in Alaska, Nevada, Iowa, Minnesota, Maine, and Colorado, and their delegate count is skyrocketing. Precinct by precinct, county by county, state by state, the Ron Paul Revolution is racking up victories – and the Romneyites are in a panic. Due to that panic, they are employing hard-line tactics, often simply closing down local conventions when it becomes clear the Paulians have a majority. They cut off the microphones, call the cops, and whine that the insurgents are "disrupting" a process the party bosses have controlled for as long as anyone can remember. At one point, attendees at a state Republican convention saw the walls literally closing in on them, as Rachel Maddow reported in a segment on MSNBC.

Try to imagine this. The nation said to be the beacon for the “free” world also boasts the world’s greatest prison population. “Free?” How do you figure?

This article was originally intended for last week, as it covers how Scott Walker, Fartfuhrer of the Totalitarian Corporate Plutocracy of Fitzwalkerstan, formerly Wisconsin, was caught telling a Republican donor that his attacks on unions were political moves, when he had testified under oath that the union busting was an economic necessity. I get to resurrect it, because the Fartfuhrer was caught in yet another lie! This article was originally intended for last week, as it covers how Scott Walker,... more

The Texas Miracle? Maybe it depends on perspective. I don’t think so, but maybe.
A Texas Miracle? Only if racism, minimum wage jobs, food insecurity, a lack of healthcare insurance, and high school dropouts, and a burgeoning prison-industrial complex constitute a miracle.
This depression we’re in isn’t the first. Since 1980 we’ve had eleven recessions. That’s scary. For the two hundred years that capitalist extremists have manipulated public policy, politics and elections this nation has experienced cyclical recessions and depressions. The Texas Miracle? Tomorrow is voting day in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas. No not the primaries. That’s the second election this month but we’ll get to that, soon enough.
Already 25,000 early voters have cast their ballots. As this type of election goes that’s about half the usual turnout according to Jacque Callanen, Bexar County Elections Administrator. Unless there’s a massive and unexpected turnout tomorrow, a tiny fraction of the city’s 700,000 registered voters will make some very big decisions. Most of the voters will be the usual suspects, those who stand to benefit the most at the expense of all of the city’s residents and taxpayers.Tomorrow is voting day in San Antonio, Bexar County, Texas. The Texas Miracle? Really? The “Texas” Miracle? Seriously?
Back in the day when those of my generation encountered a condition that looked very busy---a Rube Goldberg contraption for example---but unlike Goldberg’s contraptions accomplished little we referred to it as a circle jerk. Though it looks busy, it does little. So it is with the state’s GOPer dominated politics, elections and public policy. If anything it is an intertwined, downward spiraling circle jerk.

As I said last night, losing on Amendment One was a temporary setback, the lost battle that sparks us to win the war. Today, thanks to the passion and the righteous outrage of so many millions of Americans, Mr. Obama has finally accepted that to lead, he must follow the will of the people and stand for what is right.
Make no mistake. May 8 was a dark day for civil rights in North Carolina, but May 9 marks one of our biggest victories yet. It’s now up to us to lead the president to more important realizations.
If we do, we’ll win big in November and his second term may well deliver on the hope everyone voted for in 2008.As I said last night, losing on Amendment One was a temporary setback, the lost battle... more

We’re getting close to the time to start tracking the Presidential race on a state by state basis, so here’s a suggestion regarding some key states to watch. So far, Obama appears to be ahead in all of them, but that is no excuse for overconfidence. When the public policy of elected officials becomes super-sized profits for them and their masters and for us the chump change earning “service economy” the capitalist extremists have won but at what cost?
“One quarter of millennials, or the generation aged 18 to 34, aren’t making enough money to cover basic needs, according to a survey of nearly 2,000 adults of various ages by retail trend research firm WSL Strategic Retail (h/t Chicago Tribune). By comparison, only 17 percent of adults between the ages of 35 to 54, and 13 percent of those 55 and older reported having the same problem.”When the public policy of elected officials becomes super-sized profits for them and... more
