What happens when you take 100 people, put them in an underground bunker in Lower Manhattan, and film their every waking moment? We Live In Public, a documentary by Josh Harris, is essentially a mix of The Real World and Big Brother with a sprinkle of crack cocaine. Nothing is sacred, nothing is taboo, and in a few ways I don't think all of this is legal.
Josh Harris is either an artistic genius or a total loon. What happens when you take 100 people, put them in an underground bunker in Lower... more

Swiss Chris is no ordinary drummer. This video is his tribute to Aung San Suu Kyi, a Nobel Peace Prize recipient that is in jail for speaking of freedom and democracy in Burma.
Who is Aung San Suu Kyi?
* Known to much of the world as "Asia's Nelson Mandela", she currently leads a popular, nonviolent freedom struggle in Burma.
* In 1990, the year of Burma's last democratic election, her political party, the National League for Democracy, won 82% of the seats in parliament; however the ruling military regime refused to recognize the results.
* One year later, in 1991, while still under house arrest and leading a non-violent struggle for democracy she was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize.
* The regime has kept her imprisoned for 11 of the past 16 years.
* She has won over 70 major international awards for her work on behalf of the people of Burma, including: the Nobel Peace Prize, Sakharov Prize (from the European Parliament) and the US Presidential Medal of Freedom.
In an increasingly jaded world of political apathy and power-hungry institutions, Aung San Suu Kyi is truly that rare heroine of legend - a symbol of hope - championing the rights of individuals in the face of human rights violations and dictatorial oppression. Suu Kyi continues to stand alone in defiance of an unjust and brutal military regime with grace and Gandhi-like resolve.
Throughout 11 of the past 16 years, she has struggled in obscurity, with little or no contact with the world. Due to her perseverance amid growing concern for health and well-being, a determined community of individuals from around the world have rallied in support of Suu Kyi and the plight of the Burmese people.
The video displays his innovative techniques and electronic know how along with his passion for the plight of Aung San Suu Kyi. Besides the ordinary drum kit, Swiss Chris adds electronic pads that when hit with his drumsticks, triggers a multitude of sounds and video that he's prerecorded into his mixing unit. The result is a sound thats like having a backing band, including a vocalist if he wants as well as various video of current news, historic news and just about anything he wants that he gets clearance for.
Swiss has used this technology mainly for his human rights efforts for the Freedom campaign as well as his own organization, Saving With Instruments Samples and Soundz (SWISS). Swiss Chris is also the Music Director and Drummer for 5 time Grammy winner John Legend.

America has been overdosing on greed and arrogance for years, and now we are beginning to see the results of it. This is a very interesting development and it will test our nation's laws, our values, and assumptions made about us. The Lakota Indians have announced that they have unilaterally withdrawn from all treaties with the United States, have renounced any US citizenship, and have formed a sovereign country within an area that covers part of 5 US States: Nebraska, South Dakota, North Dakota, Montana and Wyoming.
Their new nations leader have gone to the Bolivian, Chilean, South African and Venezuelan embassies, and will continue on their diplomatic mission and take it overseas in the coming weeks and months, they told the news conference. They consider past treaties with the American Govt. merely "worthless words on worthless paper."
I personally applauded their strength and courage to stand up and say enough is enough, give us what's ours. It will be exciting to see how this plays out. This is a very interesting development and it will test our nation's laws, our... more

Pardon the holiday interruption, but the bullies at FOX are at it again. This time, they are trying to get Senator Obama and Senator Edwards to buckle to their threats and accusations. The senators are standing tall, tough and strong.
We must encourage them to resist the name-calling and intimidation and refuse to legitimize the propaganda network.
Watch video of the attacks, then sign the open letter supporting their decision. You helped us beat FOX on the Nevada debates, and stopped the Detroit debate. Now it's time to take your email lists, your blogs, your radio and newspapers, and let the world know.
We support strength. We support candidates who don't cave to the bullies.

Vanity Fair offers a sobering look at the costs that we ? and our children and their children ? will pay for the last eight years of Bush/Cheney economics.
Quote:
The damage done to the American economy does not make front-page headlines every day, but the repercussions will be felt beyond the lifetime of anyone reading this page.
I can hear an irritated counterthrust already. The president has not driven the United States into a recession during his almost seven years in office. Unemployment stands at a respectable 4.6 percent. Well, fine. But the other side of the ledger groans with distress: a tax code that has become hideously biased in favor of the rich; a national debt that will probably have grown 70 percent by the time this president leaves Washington; a swelling cascade of mortgage defaults; a record near-$850 billion trade deficit; oil prices that are higher than they have ever been; and a dollar so weak that for an American to buy a cup of coffee in London or Paris-or even the Yukon-becomes a venture in high finance.
And it gets worse. After almost seven years of this president, the United States is less prepared than ever to face the future. We have not been educating enough engineers and scientists, people with the skills we will need to compete with China and India. We have not been investing in the kinds of basic research that made us the technological powerhouse of the late 20th century. And although the president now understands-or so he says-that we must begin to wean ourselves from oil and coal, we have on his watch become more deeply dependent on both.
We may not be in a recession?but the signs of inflation are worsening everyday.

From the website:
Americans are bombarded daily with warnings of dire threats to their health. Favorite scares include ones about traces of various chemicals in the environment, and about both synthetic and natural food constituents. But in reality, most if not all of these warnings have little to do with the real threats to our health and lives. The American Council on Science and Health (ACSH) has therefore constructed this website to give Americans a more accurate perspective on the exposures and diseases that have been proven to increase the risk of death for Americans.
An interesting way to put some perspective on media scares. From the website:

To: President Ahmadinejad
From: The Iranian Ministry of Intelligence
Subject: America
We concluded that after the collapse of communism, America was on track to become the worlds sole superpower and most compelling role model for Muslim youth including our own. We were wrong. We now have high confidence that America is on a path of self-destruction, for three reasons:
First, 9/11 has made America afraid and therefore stupid. The war on terrorism is now so deeply imbedded in Americas psyche that we think it is highly likely that America will continue to export more fear than hope and will continue to defend things like torture and Guantánamo Bay prison and to favor politicians like Mr. Giuliani, who alienates the rest of the world.
Second, at a time when Americas bridges, roads, airports and Internet bandwidth have fallen behind other industrial powers, including China, we believe that the U.S. opposition to higher taxes and the fact that the primary campaigns have focused largely on gay marriage, flag-burning and whether the Christian Bible is the literal truth means it is highly unlikely that America will arrest its decline.
Third, all the U.S. presidential candidates are distancing themselves from the core values that made America such a great power and so different from us in particular Americas long commitment to free trade, open immigration and a reverence for scientific enquiry wherever it leads. Our intel analysts are baffled that the leading Democrat, Mrs. Clinton, no longer believes in globalization and the leading Republican, Mr. Huckabee, never believed in evolution.
Therefore, we conclude with high confidence that there is little likelihood that post-9/11 America will, as they say, get its groove back anytime soon.
Who needs nukes when you have this kind of America?

In Bali, Indonesia thousands of delegates from nearly 190 countries have gathered at the UN Conference on Climate Change. In ten days, I will address the conference to urge the adoption of a visionary new treaty to address global warming and I want to bring your voices with me.
Click here to sign my petition today and I will bring your signatures on stage with me as a clear demonstration of our resolve:
http://climateprotect.org/standwithal
Together, we will call on the US government to assume a new leadership role in solving the climate crisis.
World leaders including British Prime Minister Gordon Brown, French President Nicolas Sarkozy, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and newly elected Australian Prime Minister Kevin Rudd have all agreed to aggressively battle the climate crisis - yet our country still lags behind.
Over the next ten days, I would like you to help me get people from across the country to sign our message to the global community. We can demonstrate that the American people understand the immediacy of the climate crisis and want to work with the nations of the world to solve it. Time is short - we need to mobilize everyone to bring this message to Bali: http://climateprotect.org/standwithal
The American people want a visionary treaty to address climate change and for the US government to play a positive leadership role in its development.
Thank you,
Al Gore

The judge's actions are blamed on his personal life.
He had being presiding over a domestic violence case when the incident happened.
He held a brief recess and once again asked the 'audience' who owned the device, when no-one replied he sent them all to jail and set bail at $1500.

Iran have rejected the EU advice about the enrichment of their nuclear programme.
Iran claim their intentions are peaceful, and why not?
After all, it has been hinted at in the past that we may have to rely heavily on nuclear fusion as a way of producing power in the future.
I think the main issue here is not Iran having a nuclear programme but more a case of paranoia of it being used against us in the West!
I don't think nuclear is a good idea at all but we are running the risk of looking hypocritical.
Why is it ok for America, and the West in general, to have such programmes but other countries are not?
All countries concerned should cancel their research into this power source period!
Have we learnt nothing from Hiroshima or Chernobyl?Iran have rejected the EU advice about the enrichment of their nuclear programme.... more

What that means exactly is unclear, but he is alledged to be worried about them falling into the wrong hands, i.e the hands of Islamic extremists.
