Israeli Defense Minister Ehud Barak said Monday that Israel stands to gain by reducing tensions with Turkey.
His comments came in response to Foreign Minister Avigdor Lieberman's comments Sunday rejecting a demand from Turkey that Israel apologize for its attack on a Turkish ship last May that killed nine people.
Lieberman told a gathering in Jerusalem on Sunday that Turkey needs to apologize to Israel for "supporting terror."
The ship, the Mavi Marmara, was sailing to the Gaza Strip with aid supplies when it was attacked by Israeli commandos.
Israel said Turkey was breaking a Gaza blockade and that its troops opened fire in self-defense. Eight Turks and a Turkish-American were killed.
Turkish and Israeli diplomats held "fence-mending talks" in Geneva earlier this month, but little progress was made.
Barak said Monday that his Labor Party is committed to defusing tensions with Turkey.

DUBAI: WikiLeaks founder Julian Assange has said his whistleblowing website plans to publish hundreds of "sensitive" US diplomatic cables on Israel, Al-Jazeera television reported on Thursday.
"Sensitive and classified documents" on Israel's 2006 war on Lebanon and January's assassination in Dubai of Hamas militant Mahmud al-Mabhuh would be released, Assange told Al-Jazeera in an interview.
Assange said WikiLeaks had 3,700 US documents on Israel, including 2,700 originating from the Jewish state, but denied the website had any agreement in place to spare the country of leaks.
"We do not have any secret deals with any country," he said according to an Arabic translation of remarks he made in English which were posted on Al-Jazeera's website.
"We do not have any direct or indirect contacts with the Israelis," Assange is quoted as saying, adding no more than two percent of available documents on Israel have been released so far.
Some of Israel's neighbours, most notably Turkey, have expressed unease at the lack of leaks the whistleblowing website has released on the Jewish state.
Israel fought a devastating one-month war with Lebanon's Shiite movement Hezbollah in the summer of 2006 that killed more than 1,200 people in Lebanon, most of them civilians, and 160 Israelis, mainly soldiers.
Dubai police chief Lieutenant General Dahi Khalfan has linked Israel's spy agency Mossad to the January 20 Cold War-style assassination in a Dubai hotel of Mabhuh.

"WikiLeaks revelations were good for Israel."
Benjamin Netanyahu, Ha'aretz Print Edition, November 30, 2010
WikiLeaks has given the mainstream media yet another opportunity to vilify Iran. A typical headline, from the New York Times was: "Around the world distress over Iran." And, ironically, it is true, but not in the way the headline writer meant. Around the world there is distress over Iran, distress at the way it is being cast in the role of the Evil Doer, when all but the most ignorant observers realise that it is nuclear-armed Apartheid Israel that is the real threat to world peace, not Iran."WikiLeaks revelations were good for Israel."

Turkey has been pissed off at Israel because the IDF illegally boarded some of their vessels in international waters that were attempting to bring humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza and they killed some 9 Turkish citizens in the process.
So of course, Wikileaks calls the Turks “terrorists”. This of course after Wikileaks released some “secrets” that claimed the US has only indirectly caused the deaths of a mere 15,000 Iraqi civilians over and above the “official” number and that Iran is also “supporting the terrorists” in Iraq.
If anybody, anywhere still thinks that Wikileaks is not a psyop program… wake up.
Yes, Wikileaks is about to release all those “secret” documents that basically state that anyone in our new realm who doesn’t like the US occupation of their nation, is in fact a corrupt “terrorists”. Wow. How embarrassing for our new-found enemies.
How is it that every country Israel has a problem with just happens to have been funneling money and arms to “al Qaeda in Iraq”? Israel wants to attack Iran – Wikileaks calls them a “terrorist”. Turkey pressures the International Criminal Court to go after Israel, Wikileaks calls THEM a terrorist.Turkey has been pissed off at Israel because the IDF illegally boarded some of their... more

Editor’s Note: Happy Thanksgiving from the Media Consortium! This week, we aren’t stopping The Audit, The Pulse, The Diaspora, or The Mulch, but we are taking a bit of a break. Expect shorter blog posts, and The Diaspora and The Mulch will be posted on Wednesday afternoon, instead of their usual Thursday and Friday postings. We’ll return to our normal schedule next week.
by Sarah Laskow, Media Consortium Blogger
Tomorrow marks the day that, as a nation, we put aside our usual habits and begin a weeks-long push to eat, buy, and generally consume as much as possible in the spirit of the holiday season. Thanksgiving and Black Friday are only the first sprint, the gateway to latkes, holiday party hors d’oeuvres, Secret Santa shopping, and party-dress buying that will culminate in a hangover after a booze-soaked New Year’s Eve.
There’s really no escape, and to some extent, who would want to miss out? (Cranberry sauce! Christmas cookies!) But it’s not exactly a sustainable lifestyle, even for six weeks. Here are some guideposts to help light the way through.
Turkey trouble
A sad fact about commercially raised turkeys: Even the ones pardoned by the President are destined to live short lives. As Jill Richardson writes at AlterNet, “The Broad-Breasted Whites who receive presidential pardons have gone to Disneyland to peacefully live out the remainder of their lives since 2005, but as of last Thanksgiving, half of the pardoned turkeys did not survive long enough to celebrate a second Thanksgiving.”
It’s not news that commercial methods of raising poultry give rise to creatures that are more fit to die than to live. So think about buying a heritage bird this year.
Or, go veggie! Carol Deppe’s ode to potatoes, also at AlterNet, is enough to convince the most hardened meat-eater that tubers are one of the best ways to thrive. For a little more diversity of Thanksgiving-specific options, peruse this New York Times gallery which has veggie options good enough to make meat-eaters jealous.
But wait, there’s more!
* In the past few weeks, reusable grocery bags have been tarred as germ-incubators. But before leaving canvas bags behind for epic Thanksgiving grocery runs, consider where those reports originated. As Jessica Belsky writes at Change.org:
Earlier this year, the ACC [American Chemistry Council]—which represents such upstanding citizens as Exxon and Chevron—paid for a study that concluded that unwashed reusable bags can be contaminated with bacteria. Let’s remember that these are the same folks who recently lobbied to keep the hormone-disrupting chemical bisphenol-A (BPA) in baby bottles. Big Plastic is using fear-mongering tactics to get health-conscious environmentalists to switch back to disposable, single-use plastic grocery bags.
Plus, there’s a simple solution to germy bags: wash them.
* Yes, there are plenty of deals on Black Friday. But Grist’s Umbra Fisk has an alternate suggestion for how to spend the day:
Want to enjoy a real savings stampede? Consider celebrating Buy Nothing Day. Enjoy a day without buying. Give your cash and credit cards a day off with you. Store them in the refrigerator next to your Thanksgiving leftovers. Trade, barter, and share. Enjoy the luxury of living the money-free life for a day.
Of course, Christmas and Hanukkah presents have to bought at some point. Here are two green-friendly gift ideas: via Earth Focus, Fate of the World, a video game that challenges players to save the world from climate change; or via Care2, for those of us who must drive a car and have cash to burn, a Porsche. Apparently every single model will soon be available as a hybrid.

The company had suffered some difficult years recently which had included job cuts and an outbreak of bird flu.

Just in time for the feasting season we are told that we can stuff ourselves with turkey but not with stuffing as scientists have found that diets higher in protein and lower in carbohydrates can help overweight adults who managed to drop some weight keep it off.In real speak this means more lean meat like turkey and a lot less potatoes and white rice and pasta. As every yo-yo dieter knows, the real struggle isn't shedding pounds but keeping them off. Past research has shown that as long as you burn more calories than you eat, you can slim down in the short term no matter what diet you try. Fewer studies have looked at ways to avoid packing it back on.But this is exactly what an international study of more than 900 adults and 800 children from eight European countries – including the United Kingdom – tried to find out. The research shows that after six months those on the diet were on average 2kg lighter than those on rival diets with a high glycaemic index. The participants had already lost an average of 11kg and were testing alternative approaches to maintaining their weight loss.
People who stick to this approach can simply eat until they feel full and not put on weight, according to the Danish nutritionists. Their research is published in the New England Journal of Medicine today (THUR).
Your typical menu
Breakfast
Low-fat milk with muesli (any variety without added sugar), wholegrain bread with low-fat cheese, an orange
Lunch
Wholegrain bread with lean meat or chicken, tuna steak in tomato sauce with vegetables
Dinner
Stir-fried turkey with vegetables and wholegrain pasta; avocado salad with feta cheese and sugar peas
